My Gluttony System: I Devour God-Tier Talents-Chapter 34: Save me a piece of your Heart
Kyrie laid on the bed. His crimson eyes staring at the brass pipes that layered the ceiling as the prompter buzzed again.
It had been going at it for a while now even while he and Elaine were exploring each other’s bodies.
Kyrie stretched his hand in the direction of the prompter causing it to hover towards him as he remained static not trying to disturb Elaine who rested on his chest, her soft breaths caressing his skin.
The prompter arrived in front of him and the screen lit up to reveal a flurry of messages from none other than Vivienne.
Vivienne: 2:00 PM - I’ve arranged something. Can you meet me at The Explorer’s Boutique? Commercial district, near the Droppen plaza.
Vivienne: 2:15 PM - I know it’s short notice. But this might be my only chance.
Vivienne: 2:30 PM - Kyrie? Are you there?
Vivienne: 2:45 PM - I’m waiting.
Vivienne: 3:00 PM - I understand if you can’t make it. I only wish you could.
Yikes! He thought even as his pupils dilated in shock.
The last message was about 30 minutes ago but he was too deep in Elaine to even realize.
He sighed even as the woman wiggled beside him, her eyes soon focused on him.
"Is everything alright?"
Kyrie looked at her—at the woman who’d stuck by him through most of his episodes, she never lied nor manipulated him and he made a choice in that moment.
"Of course, llove," he said quietly as he set the prompter down.
"Everything’s fine."
Kyrie didn’t rush Elaine, staying in bed with her as they did everything from small talk to cuddling to making out.
He was present with her, not making excuses to force her out. She was there and he decided to be there completely.
Eventually, Elaine slowly sat up, pulling the sheet around herself.
"I should go. Don’t want to overstay my welcome."
"That could never happen." Kyrie said, but he understood.
The afternoon was slowly slipping away, and reality was finally creeping back in.
They got dressed with neither speaking much. The weight of goodbye hung in the air, unspoken but definitely understood.
Soon they walked out together. The carriage driver straightened up immediately, they came into view.
He opened the door for them as Kyrie spoke out.
"The marketplace,along central plaza."
It was a public place, crowded and safe.
Nobody would recognize him there and Elaine could easily disappear without drawing attention.
The ride was quiet. Elaine’s hand rested on his shoulder, their fingers locked.
Slowly they crossed from the industrial district to the settlement area through to the commercial district.
When they reached the marketplace, the carriage stopped at the edge of the plaza. Kyrie stepped out first, helping Elaine down as a gentleman.
She stood before him. Her eyes searched for something in him.
"I meant what I said earlier," Kyrie spoke calmly.
"I’ll never forget you again."
Elaine smiled, but it was fragile.
"I know you won’t. And I’m glad I got to see this you."
Kyrie nearly blushed, no one had ever talked to him this way.
It filled a void that two worlds of experiences didn’t.
"Thank you for always coming back love "
She reached up, cupping his face with both hands.
"Be safe out there, Kyrie. Wherever you’re going, be safe."
She pulled him down into one last kiss.
It was soft, lingering, final.
Then she pulled away, her eyes bright and her expression strong.
The weight of letting go seemed to be too heavy on her as she immediately began walking away with Kyrie still standing there.
Suddenly she turned as her soft lips opened again.
" If you ever come back..."
"No. When you come back, find me. Promise me that."
"I promise." Kyrie responded almost immediately. His eyes were still on her.
"Goodbye, K-Y" She said with a bright but heavy smile on her face.
"Goodbye, Elaine." Kyrie responded solemnly.
She turned and walked into the marketplace.
Her figure was quickly swallowed by the afternoon shoppers.
Kyrie watched until he couldn’t see her directly anymore but his Psyche resonance followed her emotions.
He climbed back into the carriage.
And only when the carriage pulled away did Kyrie glance back as the emotions he sensed on her overflowed.
Through the crowd, he caught a glimpse of Elaine standing by a flower shop her hand pressed to her mouth, shoulders shaking slightly.
Tears streamed down her eyes. Tears she’d hidden while he was watching.
He felt every minute of it as he closed his eyes, a deep sigh escaping his mouth as the carriage turned a corner and only when he exceeded the range of his skill did he stop feeling her.
"Goodbye Elaine" He repeated.
[Make meaningful connections (2/3)]
3: 50pm
"The Explorer’s Boutique,"
Kyrie told the driver who simply nodded. It seemed he knew the location without Kyrie needing to explain further
"Don’t stop directly in front. Park somewhere I can get a view and not be noticed."
The driver nodded, saying nothing. This was one of Leonel’s men. Discretion and professionalism was their forte.
While they moved, Kyrie looked forward as he asked.
"What’s your name"
The man remained silent even as Kyrie merely raised a brow.
"Rudolfo" he answered.
" Hmm, Rudolfo.. why does that sound familiar?" He muttered to himself
The boutique was in an upscale section of the district.
It was between a jeweler and a tea house.
Kyrie saw it but didn’t look until the carriage rolled to a stop half a block away.
There were two guards standing outside the entrance.
They were quite alert with eyes scanning around. Definitely Saul’s people.
Kyrie pulled up Vivienne’s last message again, reading between the lines.
*I’ve arranged something.*
Hmmm he thought.
She’d bought out the shop and had the guards stationed outside.
The timing would mean Kyrie should have arrived prior to her when she’d dismissed the workers, kept one attendant, created a space where they could talk while she pretended to browse dresses in a private changing room.
It was clever. Quite risky, but definitely clever.
But he’d missed it. Missed the window.
Kyrie watched the boutique for another few minutes.
The guards didn’t budge, No one entered or left.
Whatever window of opportunity had existed, it was definitely closed now.
Even if he used Mirroring to change his appearance, the risk was too high.
Saul’s men would be on edge and a stranger approaching now would raise suspicion.
He couldn’t get to her. Not safely. No quietly.
Kyrie leaned back against the carriage seat, exhaling slowly.
" What a drag "
If only Vivienne’s message hadn’t come during a moment he couldn’t and truthfully wouldn’t interrupt. Then he wouldn’t be having these headaches.
He pulled out his Prompter instead and began typing.
Kyrie: I’m sorry V. I saw your messages too late. As you must know already I’m leaving Strevus tomorrow. I don’t know when I’ll be back. Maybe months. Maybe years. Maybe never but I still want to know you. About your past. About your choices.
He paused his recording, taking another deep breath before continuing.
Kyrie: When we get to see each other again then we can talk. Really talk. No games. No bullshit. Just truths.
He hit send and waited even as the prompter hovered beside him.
A response came five minutes later.
Vivienne:I know you must have been busy and the world doesn’t stop for people like us.
Vivienne:There’s so much I want to tell you. I feel only you deserve my truth.
Vivienne: When you return—if you return. I’ll tell you everything. No more secrets. I promise.
Vivienne: I’ll miss you, Kyrie Shaw. More than I probably should or want to. Just save a piece of your heart for me.
Kyrie stared at the message, especially the last line.
He felt some fragments of truth in it.
But those would have to wait.
He typed one final message.
Kyrie: You’ll always have a place, love.
Then he pocketed the Prompter and told the driver to head back to the safehouse.
His eyes closed as he laid back on the leather seat, his mind going through everything so far while his hands played with the ruby pendant.
What a day he’d had so far and it wasn’t even over yet.
