My Five Bigshot Seniors: I am The Most Coddled Junior!-Chapter 342 - 22: Heart Inquiry [Update 1]
The next morning, when Gu Qingqing and the others arrived at the square, Ye Tingwen and his group were already there. Gu Qingqing thought for a moment and decided to walk directly over to Ye Tingwen’s side.
"I heard yesterday that someone intended to harm Third Young Master Ye. Now that I’ve seen Third Young Master safe and sound, we are relieved. If there’s anything we can help with, please do not hesitate to ask, Third Young Master." Gu Qingqing, now on good terms with the Ye Family, naturally had to offer some assistance.
"Thank you for your concern, Miss Gu. My eldest brother already has plans in place, so there’s no need to trouble you." Ye Tingwen appreciated Gu Qingqing’s gesture, as it proved their previous efforts weren’t in vain.
As for yesterday’s incident, thinking about Ye Tingyan’s plan, a flicker crossed his eyes, yet he didn’t mention needing Gu Qingqing’s assistance.
Seeing that they already had their ideas, Gu Qingqing didn’t say more and nodded gently to show her understanding.
The square today was noticeably less lively than yesterday, with far fewer participants for the third trial. The Bai Family and Sheng Family didn’t send many people either, and neither family heads were present.
Ye Tingwen glanced briefly at the spot where the Bai Family stood, soon averting his gaze elsewhere.
Yan Lingcheng appeared on the platform with the ten disciples of Langya Immortal Sect, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.
"The third trial is called Heart Mirror," Yan Lingcheng announced, revealing a palm-sized mirror in his hand. "This is the Heart Mirror. As long as one is truly devoted to the path, they can pass its trial. Now, those remaining may take turns holding the mirror. Let the trial begin."
Like in the previous trials, the remaining individuals quickly formed a long line. The first person, gestured by Yan Lingcheng, stepped forward to take the Heart Mirror and pointed it toward themselves.
Though it appeared to be a simple mirror, the Heart Mirror was actually an Immortal Artifact with a unique inner space that could project a person’s consciousness into it. The heart test occurred within that special space. From the outside, the person holding the mirror seemed entranced, revealing nothing else!
The process was swift—no more than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn. The first person awoke as if from a deep dream, with the Heart Mirror emitting a white light. They glanced at the mirror, their expression dazed, and looked towards Yan Lingcheng.
"Han Feiyang, passed!" Yan Lingcheng declared loudly after checking the name.
Upon hearing this, joy flickered across Han Feiyang’s face. He respectfully returned the Heart Mirror to Yan Lingcheng and then stepped aside.
The second person approached nervously, took the Heart Mirror from Yan Lingcheng, and upon looking into it, stood there motionless as if frozen.
After an incense stick’s time, the second person awoke, and once again the Heart Mirror shone with white light. Yan Lingcheng checked and announced the second person’s success as well.
One by one, the crowd took turns with the Heart Mirror. Most succeeded, as anyone reaching this point possessed a firm heart for the path. However, some failed; they emerged drenched in sweat, as if battling something. Their eyes betrayed fear, and upon learning of their failure, their expressions darkened considerably.
This time, Gu Qingqing and her group were in front of Ye Tingwen. The first was Nan Hua; his steadfast heart gave him confidence. Casually holding the Heart Mirror, he looked into it, seeming equally immobilized like the others.
Gu Qingqing and the others waited anxiously for him, and Yan Lingcheng was also quite tense—he’d been keeping an eye on Nan Hua’s exceptional Immortal Rank qualifications since their revelation.
This time, Nan Hua returned to normal in less than an incense stick’s time, his expression calm. The Heart Mirror in his hand emitted white light, indicating success. When he looked at Yan Lingcheng, he found Yan Lingcheng looking more excited than him, barely managing to regain composure once noticed.
"Nan Hua, passed!" Yan Lingcheng announced, avoiding Nan Hua’s eyes.
Nan Hua nodded towards Yan Lingcheng and returned the Heart Mirror without excitement over his success, remaining calm as he watched Mu Chen’s test.
Much like Nan Hua, Mu Chen had also awakened in less than an incense stick’s time. The Heart Mirror emitted the same white light. Yan Lingcheng stifled his excitement, announcing Mu Chen’s success. Mu Chen stepped aside, followed by Jun Wu.
There was no doubt about Jun Wu’s result—he also passed. Then the Heart Mirror reached Gu Qingqing’s hands.
Gu Qingqing carefully examined the Heart Mirror upon receiving it from Yan Lingcheng, noting its intricately engraved Spiritual Patterns on the back, some familiar and some not. With little time, she merely glanced before focusing on the mirror’s front.
Almost instantly, she felt a flicker, and upon gaining awareness, found herself in a vast white space. As she looked around, an ancient, deep voice sounded beside her ear.
"Gu Qingqing, what is your path?"
Gu Qingqing hesitated, glancing around to find no one else present. After a brief pause, she spoke.
"My path is the path of guardianship!"
This is the path Gu Qingqing chose for herself, and it’s the path she’s been adhering to all these years!
The voice paused briefly, then spoke again: "Guarding is rare, Gu Qingqing, your Dao heart is very firm. I hope you can always keep it up. You may leave."
After speaking, Gu Qingqing felt a bit dazed and had already left the vast white space.
What she didn’t know was that after she left, the elderly voice spoke again: "This aura, too familiar. So many years have passed, perhaps some things should be done anew!"
Its reply was a moment of silence.
...
When Gu Qingqing woke up, the Heart Mirror in her hand gleamed with white light; without a doubt, she had passed. Although she felt the process seemed rather simple, as if she had only gone through the motions.
Gu Qingqing wasn’t the only one who felt this way; others felt it too because she passed so quickly, less than half an incense stick’s time!
Yan Lingcheng looked at Gu Qingqing with astonishment; if he didn’t remember he was representing Langya Immortal Sect, he would have asked what Dao she cultivated, to finish the Heart Mirror so swiftly?
"Gu Qingqing, passed!" Though mentally his thoughts were in turmoil, Yan Lingcheng steadily announced Gu Qingqing’s test result.
Gu Qingqing returned the Heart Mirror to Yan Lingcheng and stood beside Jun Wu.
"Ah Wu, just now, how long did I take?" She leaned close to Jun Wu’s ear to ask.
"Less than half an incense stick’s time." Jun Wu cooperatively leaned down and said softly in Gu Qingqing’s ear.
Upon hearing this, Gu Qingqing was quite astonished; while she knew she was fast, she hadn’t expected it to be this fast. She instantly understood why the surrounding gazes were so peculiar.
The subsequent tests continued, quickly reaching Ye Tingwen, who also took an incense stick’s time to pass the test.
After everyone finished their tests, time had already passed noon. Those who didn’t pass were eliminated, and those who remained would later become disciples of Langya Immortal Sect.
"First, congratulations to everyone for passing Langya Immortal Sect’s admission test. Soon, you’ll all become disciples of Langya Immortal Sect. You have two days to handle your personal matters. After two days, meet here, and I’ll lead you all to Langya Immortal Sect," Yan Lingcheng’s gaze swept over the remaining people, deliberately pausing on Gu Qingqing and the three others briefly. Having spoken, he ignored the crowd and directly led the ten disciples away. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
After Yan Lingcheng left, the remaining people finally reacted.
Previously, due to Yan Lingcheng’s presence, most people had repressed themselves. Now that Yan Lingcheng and they were gone, emotions were immediately released, with cheers and shouts filling the lively scene.
"Congratulations to everyone on becoming disciples of Langya Immortal Sect." Ye Tingwen, standing nearby Gu Qingqing and the others, although always very poised, couldn’t resist showing a bright smile, speaking to Gu Qingqing and the others.
"Same to you, Third Prince. From now on, we’re fellow disciples. Please guide us well." Gu Qingqing cupped her hands towards Ye Tingwen, playfully teasing.
Ye Tingwen hesitated, "Miss Gu is joking. I’m the one who should be asking for your guidance."
Others might not know about the situation of Gu Qingqing and the others, but Ye Tingwen was well aware. These four not only have top-grade Immortal Rank qualifications but excel in all facets. He could easily imagine how they’d shine in Langya Immortal Sect and once again felt grateful the Ye Family had fostered a good relationship early with Gu Qingqing’s group, perhaps relying on them in the future.
"Rest assured, Third Prince, we’re all friends here. In Langya Immortal Sect, we’ll take care of each other." Nan Hua fanned himself, speaking cheerfully to Ye Tingwen.
"Third Brother, this is awesome! You’re a disciple of Langya Immortal Sect along with Geng Geng. I’m so happy; we must celebrate well today," Ye Wanwan rushed over, hooked Ye Tingwen’s arm, and said, beaming.
"Indeed, tonight calls for a celebration. I’ve already reserved a place at Yueyun Building. Let’s head there now," Ye Tingyan followed Ye Wanwan, also smiling.
Usually stern-faced, his smile now brought an air of youthful energy.
"Geng Geng, let’s go," Ye Wanwan directly took Gu Qingqing’s hand, leading her forward.
Gu Qingqing glanced back at Nan Hua and the others, smiling, embraced Ye Wanwan’s force, and followed her.
