Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Help Me Take Off My Clothes

THWACK! The box was thrown onto the sofa, bounced once, and then landed on the floor with a crisp clatter.

Nina Wynn struggled, wanting to pick it up, but Caleb Rhodes gripped her wrist tightly. "Move another inch, and I’ll throw it into the sea right now," he said coldly.

Nina Wynn didn’t dare to move.

She wasn’t ignorant of Caleb Rhodes’s temper. Those who defied him rarely met a good end.

If he said he would throw it, he absolutely would.

Seeing that she had become obedient, Caleb Rhodes took a small first-aid kit from a nearby drawer and pulled her to the edge of the sofa. "Sit."

Nina Wynn glanced nervously at the small bronze box, terrified that Caleb Rhodes would actually throw it into the sea. She had no choice but to sit down obediently.

"Your hand. Lift it."

Nina Wynn obediently lifted her hand.

She was wearing a light blue, conservatively styled nightdress with sleeves that reached her elbows, revealing the lower part of her forearms, their skin a flawless, tender white.

The soft light made her snow-white skin glow like Mutton Fat Jade, translucent and lustrous.

Because her skin was so fair, the injured areas looked particularly alarming.

Caleb Rhodes pressed on a spot that was already black and blue. His voice was a little cold. "Does it hurt?"

Nina Wynn’s attention was entirely on the box. She shook her head mechanically. "It doesn’t hurt."

In truth, she really didn’t feel much pain. At least, compared to when she was being beaten earlier, this ache was nothing.

’It doesn’t hurt?’

Caleb Rhodes’s gaze darkened. Following her line of sight, he glanced at the small, mud-stained box. "Look at it again and I’ll throw it out," he said, his voice cold.

Only then did Nina Wynn frantically turn her head back. She glanced nervously at Caleb Rhodes, then fell silent and still.

Caleb Rhodes took a medicinal spray and applied it to the wound a few times, then added some anti-inflammatory cream before wrapping the injured area with gauze.

When the spray hit her skin, Nina Wynn’s brow furrowed in pain and her hand trembled, but she didn’t make a sound.

Caleb Rhodes expressionlessly finished wrapping the gauze, his eyes landing on the bandage.

It was a bit larger than a normal bandage, and it had a cute cartoon character printed on it.

His brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. "What’s this?"

Nina Wynn panicked, quickly pulling her hand back and hiding it behind her.

"N-nothing. I just scraped it a little earlier."

Caleb Rhodes stared at her, unmoving, his eyes cold. He seemed to see right through her clumsy little lie.

Nina Wynn grew even more flustered. She hid her other hand behind her back as well, her voice trembling slightly. "Mr. Rhodes, it doesn’t hurt. Thank you."

Caleb Rhodes narrowed his eyes. He reached up and loosened his immaculate tie, his voice icy. "Really doesn’t hurt?"

Nina Wynn shook her head. "It doesn’t."

Caleb Rhodes stood up, gazing down at her. "If your hands don’t hurt, then they shouldn’t be idle. Help me take off my clothes."

’It was like a thunderclap!’

Nina Wynn was stunned speechless.

’Does he need someone to help him undress, too?’

’But she remembered no one was allowed in his room. So how did he get undressed before?’

She had a gut feeling that Caleb Rhodes was deliberately making things difficult for her.

Forcing herself, she said in a small voice, "Mr. Rhodes, I don’t know how. Can you do it yourself?"

Caleb Rhodes’s voice was cold and hard. "This is all part of your future duties. It’ll do you good to learn early."

Nina Wynn didn’t understand what he was talking about. She just stared at him instinctively.

He was already tall, and as he looked down on her from above, she had the illusion of being as insignificant as dust. At that moment, she felt that someone as noble as Caleb Rhodes seemed destined by birth to be served by others.

Her lips moved, but no words came out. She slowly stood up, her fingertips trembling slightly as she gently undid the first button of his suit jacket.

His clothes were of exceptional quality; even the buttons were made from some kind of gemstone she didn’t recognize. Afraid she might damage them, Nina Wynn carefully took off his jacket, revealing a fine, white-striped silk shirt underneath.

The hem of the shirt was tucked into his suit pants, accentuating his broad shoulders and narrow waist, creating a powerful, lean inverted-triangle physique.

Coupled with his naturally cold features, the sight of him in a white shirt and black pants made his noble, imposing air almost overwhelming.

Nina Wynn suddenly felt her face burning. She didn’t dare to look up, her hands fumbling with his tie, having forgotten how to undo it.

Caleb Rhodes frowned slightly, reaching out to cover her soft, pale hands, once again guiding her to undo the tie.

His hands were long and strong, but rougher than she had imagined. When he held her hands, the slight friction made her body tremble uncontrollably.

She didn’t know why, but any touch from Caleb Rhodes felt unusually sensitive, and she had a strong urge to recoil.

The moment the tie was undone, she quickly pulled her hands back. Clutching the tie and biting her lip, she didn’t know what to do next.

Caleb Rhodes stared at her bright red, bitten lip. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice was a little hoarse. "From now on, put the clothes you change out of in the basket by the bathroom door. Someone will come to collect them every day. It’ll be the same when you go over there."

’Over there?’

Nina Wynn was a little lost.

Caleb Rhodes met her moist eyes and said slowly, "I don’t like other people handling my personal things, so you need to learn how to manage all this soon."

Nina Wynn still didn’t understand what he was saying. Everything he’d said today felt strange, but she didn’t dare to ask, so she had to pretend she understood.

Caleb Rhodes’s gaze swept over her nightdress, which was slightly faded from washing, and his brows furrowed.

"Doesn’t Lana Shaw look after you?"

Renting a place on her own, no one to care for her when she’s sick, and her clothes so worn out they haven’t been replaced. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

He suddenly felt a twinge of regret for letting her have her freedom back then.

Never mind that she had picked up a host of bad habits like a little stray cat; her life was also a complete mess.

Under his scrutinizing gaze, Nina Wynn felt as insignificant as dust.

She lowered her head, her soft, pale hands tightly gripping her dress. "No, she does look after me," she said in a small voice. "It’s just that I’ve been living on my own since starting college and don’t come back often, so I didn’t prepare many clothes."

As if afraid Caleb Rhodes wouldn’t believe her, she added, "She’s my aunt. My real aunt."

She put special emphasis on the word "real."

She suddenly remembered something and said quickly, "Mr. Rhodes, that dress from today... was it very expensive? I got it dirty..."

’If he demanded she pay for it, she really couldn’t afford to.’

Caleb Rhodes’s voice was extremely faint. "If you like it, have the housekeeper take it to be cleaned. If you don’t, throw it away."

After a pause, he walked over to the bronze box and bent down to pick it up.

Seeing him touch the combination lock on the small box, Nina Wynn’s heart leaped into her throat. Steeling herself, she stepped forward and said, "Mr. Rhodes, that’s mine..."

Caleb Rhodes didn’t look at her. He turned and started walking upstairs. "I’ll keep it with me for now. You can have it back when you’ve learned to handle these little things."

Nina Wynn was completely stunned. ’Does he want me to do his laundry and clean for him?’

’But doesn’t he have a dedicated housekeeper? Why does he insist that I do it?’

’So, in his eyes, am I even lower than a servant?’
