My Fiancé's Scandals Never End, So I Married His Uncle Instead-Chapter 99: Eating Candy
Celia sensed Silas still hadn’t left. Just as she was about to say something more, a tall figure loomed over her from behind. A large, elegant hand with knuckles as fine as jade gently but firmly took the little object she was fiddling with and placed it to the side.
Celia froze for a moment. "Silas?"
"Cece." Silas’s voice was cool and gentle, his tone utterly casual as he made an unusual request. "I want my candy first."
Startled, Celia whirled around. The man was standing incredibly close, their bodies nearly touching. As she turned, he reflexively reached out, pulling her into a loose embrace and lowering his head slightly to look at her.
His expression was calm, maintaining that noble, ascetic air, but a subtle turbulence swirled in the depths of his eyes. If she hadn’t heard him say it herself, she never would have imagined that such desires were stirring beneath that pure and noble facade.
Celia stared at him as the realization slowly dawned on her. "So, there wasn’t any urgent business for you to handle? You were in such a rush to get back because..."
She didn’t finish the sentence, but her ears flushed red.
’No wonder. Ever since I gave in to him back in the fitting room, his heart hasn’t been in shopping.’
’So this was what he’d been thinking about...’
"How is this not important?" Silas retorted in a low voice. "I didn’t sleep a wink last night. No project, no matter how big, has ever caused me this much insomnia."
Celia: "..."
’So I wasn’t the only one who lost sleep over that passionate kiss last night.’
Her eyes shimmered as she looked at him.
The man before her was supposed to be like the cool, passionless snow on a mountain peak, the precious and unreachable moon in the sky. He was the unobtainable "Mr. Moonlight" that the women of the Capital Circle were madly in love with. In a relationship forged by a strange twist of fate like theirs, she should have been the one who was impatient, the one whose mind was racing.
"Silas Norwood." Joy swelled in her heart as she called out his full name, her voice sweet and soft.
The hand Silas had on her lower back tightened slightly, and he hummed softly in response.
The next moment, the young woman wrapped her arms around his neck and rose onto her tiptoes.
「The International Port Project Launch Event.」
As the representative from Metropia, Kian Sterling had been the center of attention for quite some time, flocked to by representatives from various factions. He finally managed to extricate himself, found a relatively secluded corner, and poured himself a drink with an indifferent expression.
Wyatt Sutton, the eldest son of the Sutton Family of Port Sovereign, tracked him down as if drawn by a scent. He was exceedingly polite as he made small talk. "When does Chairman Sterling plan to return to Metropia? Before you leave, I wonder if I might have the honor of playing the host and treating you to a meal?"
Kian Sterling shot him an icy glance, not bothering to reply.
Wyatt Sutton didn’t seem to mind, maintaining a familiar air. "My sister Summer is also in Port Sovereign. Perhaps we could all get together? As her older brother, I haven’t had a proper chat with her in years."
Kian Sterling’s gaze turned frigid. "Young Master Sutton, if you still don’t know how to take a hint, perhaps while I’m here in Port Sovereign, I should help you liquidate your assets?"
Wyatt Sutton was silent for several seconds. "Chairman Sterling, you are a powerful man. The Sutton Family is hardly worthy of you taking action against us. It’s just... I happened to hear that my sister Summer and my good-for-nothing younger brother have privately arranged to meet this weekend. I was wondering if this was at your direction, Chairman Sterling?"
Kian Sterling let out a noncommittal, cold sneer.
Wyatt Sutton continued to probe. "The Sutton Family is a humble one. Since you won’t cooperate with me, Chairman Sterling, I ask that you at least remain on the sidelines until the end."
"So you’re afraid I’ll side with Brian Sutton?"
Wyatt Sutton didn’t deny it. "Of course I am. Though I don’t know how Summer got mixed up with Brian, I trust that, given your character, Chairman Sterling, if you look down on me, you must certainly look down on someone like him even more."
Kian Sterling nonchalantly swirled the drink in his glass, offering no response.
To not respond was to tacitly agree.
Wyatt Sutton breathed an inward sigh of relief. He personally refilled Kian’s glass, a smile appearing on his face as he changed the subject.
"Both you and Chairman Norwood are distinguished guests from Metropia. I heard it was the Norwood Family’s delegation that proposed moving the meeting up, that they’re in a rush to get back to Metropia tomorrow. I wonder if you’d be willing to share, Chairman Sterling—are there any new developments in the Metropia business world?"
The hand Kian Sterling was using to hold his glass paused. "Whatever is happening in Metropia, it is not your place to get a piece of the pie, Young Master Sutton."
Wyatt Sutton laughed awkwardly. "I was merely curious! About two hours ago, I happened to see someone from the Norwood Family’s delegation take a call, and the color drained from their faces. They abruptly turned this networking session into the official launch meeting. I figured since you and the Norwood Family are close, you might know something. If you’d rather not say, then just pretend I never asked."
Kian Sterling ignored him.
After getting the cold shoulder for a bit longer, Wyatt Sutton took his leave. Kian Sterling watched him adeptly work the room, mingling with the other factions, before coolly retracting his gaze and making a subtle gesture.
A bodyguard immediately stepped forward. "Boss."
"Tell Summer Sutton’s bodyguards to pay close attention to her movements in the coming days, especially any contact with the second young master of the Sutton Family."
"Yes, sir."
"Cece and Silas Norwood, are they still out shopping?" Kian asked.
The bodyguard lowered his head to contact his counterpart with Celia, and quickly relayed the answer. "No, sir. They returned to the hotel an hour ago. Apparently, Chairman Norwood had some urgent business."
Kian Sterling lit a cigarette. The glowing crimson tip illuminated his handsome yet cold-hearted face. "Understood."
「The Hotel.」
In the living room, Celia had rearranged the little trinkets she’d bought several times over by the time Silas finally emerged from the bathroom, his skin cool from the water.
Celia glanced at the time on her phone. He’d been in the bathroom for almost an hour.
She cleared her throat and asked teasingly, "Do you always take such long showers, Silas?"
Silas was wearing a modest bathrobe, tied securely shut. The damp scent of his shower still clung to him. Hearing her, he looked at the young woman who was deliberately teasing him with an unreadable expression.
"Before you, Cece, no. With you, it’s hard to say."
He paused, then added, "I’ve already spoken with your brother. We’re getting our marriage license in two weeks. Cece, you should start mentally preparing to live with me."
Celia said, "Oh," feigning nonchalance. "It’s not like we haven’t lived together before."
Silas’s deep gaze fell on her lips, which she had touched up with a fresh coat of crimson lipstick. His voice was soft.
"Living together on the cruise ship didn’t involve the intimate side of marriage. How could this be the same?"
Celia rubbed her face, which had suddenly grown hot. Not daring to respond to Silas’s deadpan innuendo, she quickly changed the subject. "While you were in the shower, Chief Assistant Chambers called you several times."
Silas picked up his phone from the sofa and glanced at the screen. A dozen missed calls.
’It must be something important.’
He leaned down and, with the familiarity born from two straight nights of passionate kisses, placed a soft, natural kiss on her lips. "I need to step out for a moment," he said gently.
Outside the suite, Theo Chambers had paced back and forth dozens of times, unable to hide the anxiety on his face. After waiting for over an hour, the door to the presidential suite finally opened. Silas Norwood emerged, his expression calm.
"What is it?"
