Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Don’t Miss the Marriage Registration Day

"Cece, you look a little... underwhelmed." Silas Norwood noted Celia Sterling’s calm yet exasperated expression, a rare flicker of doubt crossing his face. "Do you think I did something wrong?"

"Of course not. It’s a good thing that you value our marriage, Silas. And it’s great if spending money can buy happiness." Celia Sterling let out a soft sound. "I just didn’t realize you were so into ceremony. I think as long as we live well together, that’s more important than anything else."

"Of course we’ll live well together." Silas Norwood paused. "So, when are you coming back? Don’t miss the day we’re supposed to register our marriage."

"I just left today, so I won’t be back that soon." Celia Sterling looked at the two handsome faces on her split-screen video call. "You and my brother have fun for the next few days. I’ll be back to keep you company as soon as I’m done with my work."

This feeling—as if she were the head of the household placating a couple of children—successfully silenced the two men, both of whom were significantly older than her.

"What fun is there to be had between me and Silas Norwood?" Kian Sterling gave a dry laugh and casually changed the subject. "About the official announcement, if any of those crazy women bother you, just block them. Don’t be afraid of offending people. Your brother will handle it."

Silas Norwood added elegantly, "You can also tell me."

In their social circles, Kian Sterling was famous for being unreasonable when it came to protecting his sister.

Silas Norwood, meanwhile, was notorious for being aloof and unapproachable.

Under the weight of these two men’s long-standing reputations, even those in their circle who had designs on Celia Sterling knew to keep their distance. Celia smiled faintly. "They won’t. They might have little private group chats to complain about me, but whenever they message me, they’re always very polite."

She thought for a moment. "It’s just that on the way to the hotel, I got a call from that Ms. Coleman of ours—the one we haven’t heard from since Nia’s birthday party. She was being incredibly solicitous."

Kian Sterling’s expression cooled. "What did she say this time?"

"She said I was lucky to be able to marry Silas Norwood," Celia Sterling said slowly. "She also said our scumbag father is getting more and more out of line overseas, and now that I have a powerful backer like Silas, I should help my brother out more in the future."

Upon hearing this, Silas Norwood’s expression remained perfectly calm. "We’re family. There’s no need to talk about ’helping’ or not. Mrs. Coleman underestimates Kade’s abilities."

A hint of anger flickered across Kian Sterling’s dangerously handsome face. His voice was sultry yet cold. "Cece, block her."

"..." Celia Sterling hesitated. "She’s still our mother, after all. And she sounded quite nice this time. I could tell she was genuinely thinking of you, brother."

"Block her." Kian Sterling’s tone was autocratic and unyielding. "From now on, you don’t need to concern yourself with anything related to her. I’ll handle her."

Celia Sterling nodded obediently. "Oh."

After a bit more small talk about the weather, her environment, and future arrangements, the video call finally ended.

In the courtyard of the Sterling estate, Silas Norwood took the initiative to pour Kian Sterling a drink. "Kade," he asked casually, "you don’t seem to like Cece having any contact with Mrs. Coleman. They’re mother and daughter, after all. There’s no need to be so extreme. They can just see each other less often in the future."

"She was fine in the early years. After Natalie Shepherd showed up, she stopped treating Cece like a daughter," Kian Sterling replied, just as casually. "Silas Norwood, now that Cece is with you, I expect you to prioritize her well-being and feelings above all else."

"Of course. I know how to be protective of my own, too." Silas Norwood politely sought advice from his future brother-in-law. "The wedding banquet is already in the planning stages, and there’s one matter I need your input on, Kade."

"Speak."

"That group of heirs from the major families... thanks to the gatherings you arranged, Kade, they’re quite friendly with Cece," Silas Norwood said. "Should I seat them with their respective families, or should I set aside a few separate tables for them?"

"Set aside a few tables for them," Kian Sterling said with a deep, knowing smirk. "Most of them have asked me for Cece’s hand in marriage before. Putting all the ’former suitors’ together should serve as a bit of a deterrent and will be good for the stability of your and Cece’s marriage."

Silas Norwood thought about it seriously. "In that case, I’ll trouble you, Kade, to compile a list for me of everyone who’s ever been interested in her."

Kian Sterling stared at Silas Norwood. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

He had only been teasing, but he hadn’t expected the man to take him seriously.

Then again, it was good that he took it seriously. It meant he cared.

Kian Sterling nonchalantly drained the wine in his glass and slowly replied, "Fine."

「For the next two days, Celia Sterling was in Rhovan inspecting the cultivation base.」

Several local cultivation experts presented various rescue plans, stating their position clearly. "Miss Sterling, the recent rainfall has been excessive, leading to flooding, and the weather has been terrible. We’ve already had people collect the raw materials that meet the quality standards. The remaining immature crops might need a second layer of protection, but we’re short-staffed right now."

"I’ll allocate the funds. Save as much as you can." Celia Sterling looked at the report in her hands. A sea of red met her eyes—it was the list of raw materials lost during this period. The sight made her ache.

"In two days, the Fragrance Association is holding a symposium here in Rhovan. There will be several experts on crop protection, and we’ve heard a major figure from the Perfumery Guild will also be attending. Miss Sterling, if you’re not in a hurry, we hope you’ll attend with us. We have two hundred acres of half-dead roses and patchouli, and we’re hoping we might find a solution there."

"I’ll go." Celia Sterling nodded decisively, having completely forgotten Silas Norwood’s gentle reminder not to miss their marriage registration date. "Contact the staff at the Fragrance Association and get us some tickets."

「Port Sovereign.」

Inside a private detective agency, a heavily disguised Summer Sutton entered the reception room.

"I’m the top private detective here, and also one of the top five detectives in all of Port Sovereign. Here are my personal file and my professional license." The middle-aged man receiving her was very polite as he pushed his documents in front of Summer Sutton.

Summer Sutton carefully reviewed everything before lowering her voice to a whisper. "Mr. Hale, have you ever handled cases involving finding biological relatives through DNA?"

"I’ve handled over thirty of them. As long as they’re registered in an official records database, it’s usually quite easy to find a match. And how should I address you, miss?"

Summer Sutton: "...Lowell."

"Miss Lowell, would you mind telling me your specific request?"

"I recently discovered that my blood type is inconsistent with my parents’ according to the laws of biological inheritance. I want to find out what went wrong..."

"I understand. You suspect you might have other biological parents. But since you’re not going through the police and have specifically come to our agency... you want this to be done secretly?"

"Yes." Summer Sutton intentionally kept her voice low to avoid revealing her identity. "I don’t want to alert either party. It has to be done without anyone finding out."

"No problem. However, we can’t be sure if your potential biological parents have ever had their samples registered in a database. If you could provide more clues, Miss Lowell, it would make our search much easier."

Summer Sutton looked down, thinking. "All I remember is that about thirteen years ago, I appeared on a cargo ship belonging to the Sterling Group from Metropia..."

"Ah, a cargo ship from the mainland. That broadens the scope of my investigation considerably." Detective Hale frowned slightly. "Miss Lowell, why were you on that cargo ship?"

"I don’t remember. When I opened my eyes, I couldn’t remember anything from before." Summer Sutton tried hard to recall. "I just remember that my head was burning up, I had a high fever, and then... a crowd of medical staff surrounded me, calling me..."

They called her Miss Summer Sutton.
