My Fated Mate Can Have Her-Chapter 213: Moving Together
Violet
My pulse quickened. "Rowan!"
We were chest to chest, his arm curved around my lower back, my free hand gripping his arm.
His eyes were on my hand, and there was no mischievous look in them. He was just... focused.
"This is the frame," he said quietly, still focused on my hand gripping him. "Your other hand goes on my shoulder."
I didn’t understand why I just listened to him. I must have been still stunned by the sudden closeness for me to have lifted my hand and rested it on his shoulder.
I could feel the muscle beneath his shirt, and his palm pressed against the small of my back made me aware of how big his hand was.
"Now, we move together." He smiled faintly. "I lead, you follow. Don’t think too much about the steps. Just feel where I am guiding you."
He stepped forward. "Move backward."
I stumbled back, my foot catching on his.
"Sorry—"
"Don’t apologize." He steadied me with a small squeeze of his hand. "Again. Just feel where I’m going."
Easy for him to say.
His eyes remained at our feet, observing and I did the same, thankful he wasn’t staring at my face.
We weren’t pressed tight against each other like the dancers were, but we were still close enough.
I had mixed feelings about it.
He stepped forward again, and this time I managed to move back without tripping. Side. Together. His hand guided me through the motions with subtle pressure, and slowly, clumsily, we began to trace a pattern across the cave floor.
"That is better," he murmured.
I could sense he was smiling, but I still didn’t look at him.
I didn’t feel better. I felt hyperaware of every place our bodies connected. His hand on my back, his muscles flexing underneath my fingers where I grabbed his shoulder, the warmth of his hand, and the way his chest nearly brushed mine with each step.
"Relax your shoulders. You’re too tense."
The way he even talked innocently as if he didn’t know why I was tense.
I frowned, closing my eyes. "I am concentrating."
"Hmm." His thumb traced a small circle against my spine, and my eyes snapped open. I looked up to glare at him but his eyes were focused on my hand he was holding. Noticing my movement, his eyes shifted to meet mine and I immediately looked away.
’This is ridiculous.’
"Less thinking, more feeling," he added.
Feeling.
That was the problem.
I was feeling far too much.
He ought to be too, or was he at it again?
Or was it Kael that tended to do subtle things like this and act innocent... no, he wasn’t like that.
My chest mellowed.
I should end this right this moment.
But I didn’t understand why my stupid mouth didn’t move.
We continued to slowly dance, even without music and Rowan’s hand was a constant presence on my back, guiding and steadying me.
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and tried to loosen the knots in my muscles, but it was hard. Every nerve in my body was aware of him.
I opened my eyes and found him staring at my face. I stumbled, but he steadied me again.
His green eyes were soft in the blue light, patient and focused. There was no mockery in them. He was just paying... such rapt attention.
He seemed at ease, and the rapid beating of his heart I had previously heard wasn’t there anymore.
It was like he found some peace in our movements.
’He really does like dancing...’
We continued and step by step, the patterns became easier. My body began to remember the movements without my mind having to direct them and more of my attention was shifting towards the act rather than him.
This was nice...
It was strange, this sensation of moving as one. His body anticipated mine, and mine responded to his. When he stepped, I stepped. When he turned, I turned. The space between us became a shared thing, a connection that hummed with something I couldn’t name.
"Now, we add a turn."
His hand tightened slightly on my back and I momentarily snapped out of my daze.
"What?"
"I am going to spin you out," he explained. "When I do, keep hold of my hand. Let the momentum carry you, then I’ll pull you back in."
Before I could respond, he pushed me gently away.
My body turned, our fingers still linked, and the cave spun around me in a blur of blue light.
’Oh...’
Then he pulled.
I came back to him faster than I expected, colliding with his chest with a soft gasp.
His arm wrapped around my waist, steadying me against him.
We were close now. Too close. I could feel his heart beating against my palm where my hand had landed on his chest. The rise and fall of his breath was slightly faster than before too.
His eyes searched my face.
Neither of us moved.
"Sorry," I whispered, not entirely sure what I was apologizing for.
"Don’t be." Something flashed through his eyes before he tore them from my face. "That was good. You’re learning quickly."
I should step back. Put some distance between us.
But...
"Can you... can you do it again?"
He blinked, returning his attention to me. "Do what?"
I slightly pushed away from him, but he only released me a fraction of a bit, not entirely removing his touch.
"That... turn," I whispered, a bit embarrassed by what I was asking. "The spinning."
His eyes widened with understanding. "The twirl?"
That’s what it was called.
"Yes." I pressed my lips together, feeling childish for making such an absurd request.
Rowan just chucked. "That is fine."
He proceeded to twirl me again and again and again and again, and it was so much fun how the blue lights bouncing off the walls danced in my eyes. It almost felt like I was flying. And how he was even doing it without pulling me back to him like before, I didn’t know.
But from his soft laughter, I could also tell he was having fun.
He pulled me back to him after countless turns and I slumped against him with a small laugh.
My knees felt weak and a light dizzying spell, somewhat pleasant, made my vision swim.
I leaned my head against his chest laughing until the sensation almost wore off, and when I was stable enough, I glanced up at him.
