Chapter 51: 051 Easygoing
Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
The virtual dream device had a rule that one could only enter the dream at night.
This meant there was still a whole day ahead.
Chen Xu felt a bit restless and completely awake, so he got up, washed up, and casually cooked some noodles, eating a bowl without much taste.
At this moment, he felt like he couldn’t focus on anything, feeling slightly suffocated at home, so he simply grabbed his briefcase and went out.
It was five-forty-something in the morning, and the sky had not yet lightened.
Chen Xu walked down the empty street, the cold wind blowing against him, yet he felt no chill.
...
Occasionally, he encountered a few pedestrians, all walking briskly. They were either rushing to work or hurrying home to rest.
He strolled aimlessly, and before long, he reached a street completely unfamiliar to him. Truth be told, after living here for over a year, he hadn’t really explored the neighborhood.
Unconsciously, he found himself at a nearby small plaza, where quite a few people were exercising in the morning. Most were middle-aged or elderly, along with some younger people.
He spent some time there, waiting until it was about time, then headed toward the bus stop.
On his way to the company, he kept looking around to see if there was someone suitable. He did pass by a few who were rather attractive but wasn’t completely satisfied, always feeling something was slightly off.
He arrived at the company a few minutes earlier than usual, and while waiting for the elevator, he unexpectedly ran into Luo Xiyun. A thought suddenly popped into his mind, “Maybe I should bring her into the second dream?”

This thought tempted him. In terms of looks, Luo Xiyun was definitely among the top women he’d seen. Perhaps because of the long time he had spent with her, anyone else he considered subconsciously got compared to her, and would inevitably fall short.
However, upon calming down, he abandoned the idea.
He had already experienced Luo Xiyun’s personality and absolutely did not want to go through that again—it was pure torment. Unless she could retain memories from the first dream.
But, obviously, that wasn’t possible.
…
After the meeting, Chen Xu left the company.
The advertising business in the department was entirely outsourced to an advertising company. He was merely an errand runner, without any decision-making power; everything from pictures to materials was handed up for selection.
Leaving the company building, he headed toward the subway when, just past a corner, a large Mercedes stopped in front of him. The back window rolled down—it was Liu Kun.
“Mr. Liu?” Chen Xu was very surprised. Why did he specifically stop to intercept him?
“Chen Xu, where are you headed?”
Liu Kun had a very gentle smile on his face.
Chen Xu replied, “To that store on XX Road.”
“I’m going the same way, let me give you a ride. Hop in.”
“Thank you, Mr. Liu.”
After thanking him, Chen Xu got in the car from the other side, looking somewhat reserved.
“Drive,” Liu Kun told the driver. Once the car started, he turned to assess Chen Xu and asked, “Getting used to the new department?”
“Pretty good, it’s just a lot of overtime. It took some getting used to at first.”
“Yes, as the department has just been established, there are indeed a lot of things to manage. We appreciate your hard work.”
“Mainly, the company offers overtime pay, so it’s worth the effort.”
“Haha,” Liu Kun couldn’t help but laugh, “You really are quite candid.”
Along the way, the two chatted casually, with Liu Kun being unexpectedly approachable. He even asked about some personal life matters, which was not off-putting at all.
“I can get off here,” Chen Xu said as they reached an intersection.
The car stopped, and he thanked Liu Kun again, opened the door, and got out. He stood by the roadside, watching the car drive away, his face holding a hint of puzzlement.
He couldn’t quite understand why someone as busy as Liu Kun would notice someone as insignificant as him and even stop to give him a ride.
It couldn’t be just to show a friendly side to a subordinate, could it?
Or perhaps he had a discerning eye, planning to invest in him?
Earlier in the car, Liu Kun only engaged in small talk without providing any useful information, leaving Chen Xu to guess wildly.
It was unthinkable that he was simply bored.
After pondering for a while without a clue, he chose not to dwell on it and headed briskly toward the store.
…
“Mr. Liu, Mr. Liu…”
After Chen Xu got out of the car, Liu Kun sat there in deep thought, not hearing the driver calling him a few times.
“Mr. Liu!” The driver had to raise his voice.
“Hmm?”
Only then did Liu Kun snap out of it.
“We’ve arrived.” The driver cautiously asked, “Is there an issue?”
“No, let’s go.”
Liu Kun returned to his usual demeanor and got out of the car. Today he was meeting a very important person and couldn’t afford to be distracted by anything else.
This was an underground parking lot. Liu Kun led the driver to an elevator, which headed straight to the top floor.
As the elevator doors opened, they were directly opposite a reception desk.
Liu Kun adjusted his tie slightly and walked out of the elevator, telling the receptionist, “I’m Liu Kun, here for my appointment with Mr. Yang.”
The receptionist smiled, “Mr. Yang has informed us. Please follow me.”
Liu Kun gestured for the driver to wait outside and followed the receptionist up a curved staircase, arriving at a door.
Before entering, Liu Kun paused slightly and took a discreet breath before walking in.
Inside was an office, with a wooden rack against the wall opposite the doors, displaying various delicate potted plants.
The right side was an entire glass wall, offering a full view of the sky. Below lay an eight-lane road leading straight into the distance. From here, no building was taller than this one.
Liu Kun glanced outside. Even though it wasn’t his first time in this office, he was still awed by the setup.
Would he ever have an office like this one day?
“Mr. Yang, Mr. Liu is here.”
A woman’s voice brought him back to reality. He looked up to see the owner of the office seated at a desk, holding a kettle and pouring hot water into a purple sand teapot.
“Have a seat.”
She appeared to be around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, wore delicate makeup, had her hair up, and wore a light yellow top, focused on the tea set in front of her.
Seeing this woman, a trace of heat flashed in Liu Kun’s eyes. He quickly lowered his gaze and sat on a chair next to the desk with extreme deference.
The woman finished pouring a cup of tea and handed it to him with a wooden clip.
Liu Kun lowered his head, receiving it with both hands in midair.
“I understand your intention.”
She laid down the clip, picked up a cloth, and wiped the water stains on the table, “However, you should know, I only invest. I never involve myself in specific operations.”
Liu Kun cautiously replied, “If it were for the company, I wouldn’t dare disturb you. It’s just that Xiyun has been exhausted by the project, and I only want to help her…”
The woman gazed at a plant nearby before speaking, “Just this once.”
“Thank you.”
Liu Kun felt a sense of relief, finished his tea, and took his leave.
As he walked out the door, a gigantic sense of loss washed over him. Throughout the encounter, the woman hadn’t once looked directly at him.
He wanted to turn back for another glance, but his neck felt unbearably stiff.
Bang.
The door to the office closed, and he sighed silently, walking away.
