Chapter 42: Luo Xiyun’s Dilemma

“Collaboration… pleasant.”
Dai Zixin was somewhat speechless at how quickly Chen Xu’s attitude changed. However, thinking about his joining and how her fan base would skyrocket, she immediately got excited again and suggested, “Let’s do another live stream tomorrow at noon.”
Chen Xu thought for a moment and said, “No, if we stream too frequently, it won’t be worth much. It’s about scarcity marketing, you know? We have to maintain our image and keep the fans hungry to harvest gifts better.”
Dai Zixin felt a little disappointed at his words. She valued the number of fans more, and gifts were secondary. But she had to listen to him about this, so she asked, “When’s the next stream then?”
...
Chen Xu considered for a moment and said, “I think twice a week is more appropriate. Let’s schedule it for Thursday and the weekend. We can decide the specific time later.”
Dai Zixin didn’t see a problem with that and agreed, “Okay.”
After discussing the collaboration, both felt quite happy.
“Huh, Director?”
As they were discussing what to perform on the next live stream, Dai Zixin suddenly called out while facing the door.
Luo Xiyun was here?
Chen Xu thought how coincidental this was and turned to look, glancing around, but he didn’t see Luo Xiyun’s figure anywhere, so he asked, “Where?”
“I definitely saw her just now, how did she disappear so quickly.”
Dai Zixin was puzzled. “Could I have seen it wrong?”
“You must have mistaken her for someone else.” Chen Xu didn’t pay much attention and continued discussing with her, “What were we talking about just now…”

…
“What’s wrong here?”
Liu Yumeng was pulled out from the restaurant entrance by Luo Xiyun, looking at her with a face full of confusion.
“I don’t like this place.” Luo Xiyun threw out a sentence, let go of her hand, and got straight into the car.
Liu Yumeng followed into the driver’s seat and said, “Then let’s go to that place we went last time, how about it?”
“Okay.” Luo Xiyun responded, propping her face with her hand and looking out the car window. She just happened to see the reflection of a man and a woman from the restaurant’s glass.
A sudden inexplicable irritation filled her heart, and she forcefully closed the car window.
A burst of music sounded; it was her phone ringing.
“When will this end?” Seeing the number, her emotions slightly erupted, and she hung up the call, then immediately blocked the number.
Liu Yumeng glanced at her, “Was it Zhou Hao calling again? This guy is still unwilling to let go.”
“Just ignore him, let’s go.”
Luo Xiyun controlled her temper and put the phone back to its place.
Liu Yumeng heard this, started the car, and after driving for a while, she asked, “Have you been having nightmares lately? You haven’t been looking well these days. How about I accompany you to the hospital?”
“I’m fine.” In Luo Xiyun’s voice, there was an unconcealable fatigue.
“Stop pretending to be okay. When did you start wearing such heavy makeup? Concealer can hardly hide your dark circles now. I’m telling you, once a woman’s skin starts aging, it’s irreversible. Once it gets bad, it’s hard to regain youth.”
Luo Xiyun instinctively touched her face, hesitating a bit, “Is it really that bad?”
“Not just your complexion; your temper is explosive too. This won’t do, it will affect your endocrine system and might lead to early menopause.” Liu Yumeng continued, “You should listen to me. Take a day off work tomorrow, and I’ll go with you to the hospital for some medication.”
Luo Xiyun hesitated for a moment, but in the end, she didn’t voice her refusal. She rummaged through her bag for a mirror and looked closely at her face.
After driving for a while, Liu Yumeng couldn’t help but ask, “By the way, you always seemed so fearless. What kind of nightmare torments you into sleeplessness?”
Luo Xiyun’s hand paused, she put away the mirror, rested her head on the seat’s back, and asked, “Have you ever had a particularly long dream?”
“A particularly long dream?” Liu Yumeng shook her head, saying, “I wouldn’t know. Usually, after dreaming, I forget most of it upon waking.”
Saying this, she curiously added, “How long was your dream?”
Luo Xiyun murmured, “In the dream, it felt like several months had passed. At first, I couldn’t remember the contents, only knowing it went on for a long time.”
“Yeah, and then?”
“Since then, every morning when I wake up, I recall the things in the dream. Those things were too vivid, too real, as if I had really lived in the dream for several months.”
Liu Yumeng grew more curious and asked, “What happened in the dream?”
Luo Xiyun’s brow slightly furrowed, and after a moment of pause, she said, “I dreamt of a man.”
“Oh.” Liu Yumeng’s eyes lit up, with gossip fire burning intensely, “What kind of man was he?”
Luo Xiyun responded, “The man, I actually know him.”
“Huh?”
Liu Yumeng exclaimed, suddenly stopping the car by the roadside, turning to look at her, her face full of excitement, “Who? Do I know him?”
“It’s not someone you know.” Luo Xiyun shook her head and softly said, “Him, I wasn’t familiar with him before, we hadn’t even spoken. I don’t even know why it was him…”
Liu Yumeng noticed a flash of struggle and pain in her eyes, and a bold speculation arose in her heart. She softly asked, “Could it be… he’s a married man?”
Luo Xiyun shook her head without speaking, but her brow furrowed deeply.
Seeing her discomfort, Liu Yumeng pondered over that man’s identity and why it troubled her so. She advised, “Don’t overthink it; it’s just a dream, and it will pass with time.”
“You don’t understand.” Luo Xiyun seemed to murmur but didn’t elaborate further.
In recent days, the memories in her dream had become clearer and clearer. She could remember the recently renovated villa’s formaldehyde smell, the bone-chilling cold wind, and the nausea of canned fish, ham, luncheon meat, sausages, fruit cans eaten for months…
Everything felt too real.
The most unbearable was the memories with that man in the dream, as if etched into her mind, inerasable.
She couldn’t accept that the person in the dream was herself. That was also the source of her pain.
“Are you struggling because the dream left such a deep impression?” Suddenly, Liu Yumeng spoke up, suggesting, “If so, why not verify it?”
Luo Xiyun raised her head and softly asked, “How to verify?”
“In the dream, does that man have any birthmarks or distinct features? Find a chance to see if he has them in real life; then you’ll know.”
Luo Xiyun didn’t respond.
“This isn’t like you.” Liu Yumeng sighed, “This issue is tormenting you so much, yet you don’t take any action?”
Luo Xiyun was startled; after a long pause, she sighed, “You’re right, this matter needs resolving.”
“Exactly.” Liu Yumeng finally smiled and said, “If you don’t want to show up, I can help.”
“No need.”
