Chapter 33: 033 Talent
Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
“You want to transfer me to a new department?”
In the manager’s office, Chen Xu originally thought Old Wang wanted to give him a talking-to, but unexpectedly, Old Wang said he wanted to transfer him to the newly established marketing department.
Old Wang had a square face, with a mole on his left cheekbone that was quite distinctive. “Don’t underestimate this new department. The executives are paying a lot of attention to it. Being transferred is your luck and your opportunity.”
“But…”
Chen Xu was already planning to resign, so he naturally didn’t intend to accept.
...
“No buts.” Old Wang interrupted him, whispering, “This new marketing department is directly managed by Vice President Liu, and the staff are being selectively pulled from various departments. I heard from Lao He in the personnel department that those who transfer to the new department get a certain salary increase, at least twenty percent.”
Toward the end, there was a clear tinge of envy on his face.
The refusal that Chen Xu initially intended to give was immediately swallowed back.
If transferring could increase his salary, then he could consider it. Thinking of this, he said, “Give me a day to think about it.”
“Alright, anyway, Lao He is going to personally talk to you tomorrow.” After saying this, Old Wang let him go back to work.
……
“Is everything okay?”
As soon as Chen Xu returned to his seat, Old Tang turned his head to ask.
He shook his head to indicate everything was fine and habitually picked up a pen, doodling aimlessly on paper. His current salary, after tax, was barely over four thousand. Even with a twenty percent increase, it wouldn’t reach five thousand.
It wasn’t a lot, but not too little either.
Previously, he felt that with his educational background, getting into a large company was already fortunate, and he could accept low pay, enduring it as it was.
However, such a small salary wasn’t really sufficient in the big city. He had to send money home every month, making life even more financially stressed.
After nearly two years, his salary had only increased slightly, and he couldn’t endure it any longer. This was the fundamental reason for his resignation, and Luo Xiyun was merely a trigger.
“Have a talk with Mr. He tomorrow and see if you can negotiate a higher salary.”
He quickly made up his mind.
These days, he slowly recalled many details from his dreams. This brought about subtle changes in him. At least, he was no longer as afraid of changing jobs as before, and he had the courage to negotiate with the head of the personnel department.
Previously, he had too many worries, not confident enough in his own abilities, fearing that after unemployment, without a source of income, his survival would become an issue, and his family would fall into hardship.
Now, after experiencing a life where he was the only person left in the whole world, he wasn’t afraid of anything.
Just that experience in the dream was an incredibly valuable asset for him.
With this in mind, he tore off the piece of paper he had doodled on, crumpled it into a ball, and without looking, tossed it toward the trash basket.
After throwing it, he turned his head to see the paper ball steadily fly into the basket.
“Huh?”
He was somewhat amazed.
When thinking about things, he always had a habit of scribbling on paper and would throw it away afterward.
However, his hit rate wasn’t high. He often missed, forcing him to make a trip to pick up the paper and throw it back into the basket. Even so, he never tired of it. It was also a way for him to relieve stress.
These past few days, his aim had been impeccable. Each time he managed to make the shot, until just now, when he felt that this couldn’t just be luck.
“Could it be…”
He recalled the talent card he obtained at the end of the dream, aptly named “Precise Throw.”
Perhaps this talent card wasn’t only effective in the dream world?
With this thought, he couldn’t help but swallow down a gulp.
“Let’s try again.”
He tore off another piece of paper, crumpled it into a ball, and then, facing away from the basket, threw it with intuition.
When he turned his head, he saw the paper ball drawing an arc and landing precisely in the basket.
His heart trembled with excitement, knowing his speculation was likely true.
“Has my Golden Finger finally activated?”
In a moment, he was beside himself with joy.
Then, thoughts of transferring to the new department and finding a new job were forgotten. His mind was entirely focused on what this talent obtained from the dream world could achieve.
Unfortunately, this was at the office during work hours. He could only exercise patience.
……..
Finally, when it was time to leave, Chen Xu returned home as quickly as possible and began experimenting.
From the name of the talent, it was evident that it was related to throwing.
He gathered a few items of varying weights and sizes: an unopened 1.5L bottle of mineral water, an empty cigarette pack, a packet of potato chips, and a book.
Then, he placed a bucket by the wall, stepped out onto the balcony, and started by testing with the heaviest item, the bottle of mineral water.
Thud.
The bottle hit the ground, missing its target.
“Could it be…”
The initial failure made him frown. He walked over to pick up the bottle, returned to the balcony, and tried again.
Thud.
This time, the bottle securely landed in the bucket.
“Let’s try once more.”
He picked the bottle up again and threw it for a third time, landing it once more.
Hitting twice in a row still wasn’t convincing enough for him.
Before the fourth throw, he closed his eyes and threw it again.
Thud, the bottle flew accurately into the bucket.
“It seems there’s no doubt. The talent card obtained in the dream can work in reality as well.”
The result was so exhilarating that he trembled with excitement.
Before entering the dream, he thought the virtual dream device was merely to indulge some daydream fantasies.
After the first dream entry, his opinion changed. In the dream, he could have experiences unimaginable to others, adding to his life experience.
Now, he realized he had been completely wrong.
The talent acquired in the dream actually manifested in his real body. The value of the virtual dream device was far greater than he had imagined.
This meant that the skills he learned in the dream could also be mastered in reality.
Unfortunately, in the last dream, he had practiced shooting the most, a skill not easy to test in real life since getting his hands on a gun wasn’t feasible at the moment.
Of course, even if his guess was wrong, as long as he acquired a few more talent cards, he would be impressive enough.
With that thought, he couldn’t wait to start the second dream immediately.
“Three more weeks, such a long wait.”
He sighed, quickly shifting his focus, trying to throw the other items.

He felt like he had obtained a novel toy, enjoying it endlessly. Besides the initial few items he prepared, he threw everything throw-able in the room once over.
Soon, he discovered a pattern. Each time he switched items, he usually missed on the first couple of tries.
But he could quickly find his aim, and by the third attempt, he wouldn’t miss.
This made him understand that what he gained was just a talent, requiring practice to master perfectly.
