Chapter 62: Self-Defense

The antique exhibit would be in a week. Caden confirmed their presence at the event by sending the Garcia Clan a formal letter with the Flousian seal.

"Don’t we have a plan?" She asked.

Caden shrugged his shoulders. "Just focus on your target shooting today."

She started her training two days ago with Rock and Phoenix. Rock was assigned to train her to shoot, while Phoenix was teaching her martial arts.

She knew she was bad at shooting even though Caden was very strict with her training.

"Maybe I wasn’t meant to be good with guns. I hate the smell of gunpowder." She whined.

Caden sighed. "Just learn the basics. You don’t need to be a professional. Knowing how to use a gun and shoot would be fine."

She nodded. Caden was being considerate of her. He knew exactly why she hated the smell of gunpowder and would not want to force her.

"How about knives? Can I try it? Or archery?" She asked.

She didn’t want to see Caden’s disappointment and wouldn’t want his men to see her as a weak damsel in distress.

"Don’t push yourself. I said just learn the basics." He said.

She didn’t complain anymore and went back to training. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"Why the long face?" Phoenix asked.

She pouted. "I suck with guns. I can’t even shoot a single target."

Phoenix chuckled. "Rock told us you’re scared."

Her face turned red because of embarrassment, making Phoenix and Red worried.

"You don’t need to be ashamed of it. We were like you before we joined the clan. We were hopeless and didn’t know anything about fighting." Red said.

"Did you receive feedback from Boss?" Phoenix asked.

She shook her head. "He told me I don’t need to be a professional and I just need to learn the basics. But how can I do it if I hate the smell of gunpowder and the sound of the gun, they remind me of what happened twelve years ago."

Phoenix and Red glanced at each other. Then Phoemix grabbed her hand, pulling her to the center of the gym. There were no other people besides them because Caden gave a strict rule that no man should be in the gym during her training with Phoenix and Red.

"Punch me." Phoenix said.

She frowned. "W—What? I—I can’t possibly punch someone. I’m against violence."

Phoenix rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on, princess! Are you going to be like that forever? You said you don’t want to get protected all the time, right?"

She nodded. "Yes. But I—"

"Shut up! Punch me! Or you’ll be just a burden to Boss and the clan."

Red was getting excited watching the two. "Boss might end up having a mistress if you are that weak."

Her heart pounded when she heard Red’s words. Then an image of Caden having another woman by his side came into her mind. Her blood boiled and just thinking of a woman touching Caden made her lose her composure.

Red continued mocking and annoying her. She could her saying a woman’s name who Caden had met a few years back.

"Shut up! One more word and I’ll rip your tongue out!" She yelled at Red and then ran toward Phoenix.

She tried punching Phoenix in the face, but it didn’t hit her. She almost fell on the floor, face first, but she was able to stop it by putting pressure on her legs. She didn’t waste time and turned to where Phoenix was to pull her hair.

Phoenix didn’t expect that Alira would be able to continue the attack after dodging her punch. Instead of Alira falling on the floor, Phoenix was the one who fell.

Alira pulled Phoenix by the hair, making the latter fall on the floor. She jumped at her, straddling Phoenix’s body between her legs. She didn’t let go of her hair so Phoenix wouldn’t be able to move her head.

Red couldn’t believe what happened. It was too fast. She thought Phoenix was the one who had an advantage because Alira had no experience in fighting. But looking at the two, it looked like Alira was a different person.

She was on top of Phoenix. Her left hand was pinning the girl’s head. Phoenix couldn’t move because Alira’s legs were squeezing her body with her arms on the sides.

Red looked at Alira’s eyes and was surprised to see nothing but rage. Then she saw her landing a punch to Phoenix’s face.

It wasn’t just one punch. Alira continued as if she wouldn’t stop unless Phoenix lose consciousness.

Red couldn’t stop Alira because of her Boss’ order. So she ran outside to call Caden instead.

"Alira, stop!" Caden shouted but she didn’t stop.

Alira raised her fist again when Caden grabbed her by the wrist.

"Baby, stop." He said in a gentle voice.

Then she blinked twice while looking at Caden’s face. Her eyes widened when she turned to Phoenix.

"I—I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—. Oh, my goodness!" She exclaimed seeing Phoenix bleed because of a cut on her lips.

But she was surprised when Phoenix suddenly let out a chuckle.

"No need to apologize. This is self-defense. But I knew it. You’re hiding something." Phoenix commented.

Alira had no understanding of Phoenix’s words. She was asked to return to Caden’s quarters and rest for a while.

"Boss, is she some kind of a sadist?" Red giggled.

Caden glared at Red. "She’s nothing like that."

"But from what we saw, she wasn’t really weak. Her punches were strong and I didn’t expect that from someone who had no experience in fighting." Phoenix said while putting the ice bag on the side of her lips.

Caden sighed. "She learned taekwondo for a month with me and Lucas. She stopped because she hated violence. But between the three of us, our master had an eye for Alira because she was better than us. She’s actually good at everything, she just doesn’t know it."

"How about guns? She said she didn’t like it." Phoenix asked.

Caden nodded. "Yes. But she’s good with knives."
