My Enemy Became My Cultivation Companion-Chapter 94 - 79: The Obstruction of Ignorance
Chapter 94: Chapter 79: The Obstruction of Ignorance
Chen Yi opened his eyes and struggled to climb up from the ground.
The air was filled with the scent of bronze corrosion and the tang of blood. He took two deep breaths and hurriedly looked around.
Corpses lay scattered across the ground. Their faces were pale, blood spilling from their seven orifices, and their expressions in death varied—some fearful, some horrified.
Chen Yi’s heart tightened as he frantically searched for Yin Tingxue and Min Ning among the bodies.
Whether fortunate or unfortunate, he could not find Yin Tingxue or Min Ning, but neither could he find their bodies.
"They’re still alive... they must still be alive."
Chen Yi consoled himself and then raised his head to take in the scene before him.
The surroundings were largely pitch-black, faintly illuminated by eerie light. Broken walls and ruins were scattered everywhere. Chen Yi tilted his head upward, finding a wall of stone above him, then looked down to see fragments of pottery and bronze artifacts—funerary items, as though he had stumbled into the burial chamber of an ancient king.
Chen Yi took a deep breath. Right now, his priority was clear: he had to find them as soon as possible.
He lifted his foot and cautiously stepped forward. Rounding a corner in the dark passage ahead, he suddenly heard a faint sound.
Chen Yi held his breath, grasped the Brocade Spring Blade, and followed the direction of the noise. Soon, he saw a familiar face.
It wasn’t Yin Tingxue, nor was it Min Ning,
but rather the Taichua Goddess, Yin Weiyin.
The white-robed female crown sat cross-legged on the ground, softly reciting blessings. Her face in the dim glow carried an otherworldly serenity.
"Reciting scriptures in someone else’s tomb,"
Chen Yi said coldly,
"Yin Luanhuang, are you here pretending to be a ghost to scare people?"
At the sound of his voice, Yin Weiyin twitched slightly. She turned to see that detested face once more, her teeth clenched in anger as she hissed:
"...You’re not dead."
"Looks like you were hoping I was."
"Ignorant wretch."
Yin Weiyin cursed under her breath.
Chen Yi ignored her entirely and asked coolly:
"Are you staying here, or do you intend to leave?"
"My master cast the divination sticks three times—all auspicious."
Yin Weiyin replied coldly:
"I will remain here, biding my time. Misfortune will turn to fortune."
Her words did nothing to convince Chen Yi; without another word, he turned and began walking away.
Chen Yi had several ways to force Yin Weiyin to leave, whether by severing her path across the Longevity Bridge or breaking her leg and dragging her along. But now, he had no desire to waste time on a woman so muddled in her mind. His priority was clear—he had to find Yin Tingxue and Min Ning.
After Chen Yi left, Yin Weiyin took a deep breath, gazing in his direction.
In fact, she had known all along that Chen Yi wasn’t dead. She was the first to wake up. She saw the field of corpses, then noticed Chen Yi and confirmed that he was still breathing.
There were moments when she truly wanted to seize the opportunity to kill him.
But she hated herself for being a Taoist, bound by precepts that forbade her from taking life.
Everything was because of Chen Yi. Her pursuit of the Longevity Path had been plagued by setbacks caused by him.
If not for him, Min Ning would have followed her to Taihua Mountain long ago. Not only that—Min Ning, who should have become her Dao partner, had said he would rather bow to the earth and serve Chen Yi as a concubine!
That single declaration had severed the prophecy for her Longevity Path. Min Ning’s heart had been set; he would never follow her up the mountain to cultivate. Without the Golden Boy, how could the Jade Maiden endure?
"Ignorant wretch."
Yin Weiyin cursed again under her breath.
She clasped her hands in a seal, sat cross-legged, and continued chanting her blessings.
In the pitch-black passage, a gust of chilling wind blew past. The scattered bronze artifacts released the tang of corrosion. Faint and shadowy light flickered uneasily.
Yin Weiyin suddenly felt a vague sense of foreboding.
She scanned her surroundings, but everything was calm—silent, uneventful.
Perhaps she was simply imagining things.
She wasn’t in any danger...
Yin Weiyin slowly exhaled and relaxed.
She opened her mouth, preparing to continue reciting the scriptures.
But just as she was about to close her eyes, she caught a faint, nearly imperceptible detail.
In the shadows of a dark corner, something flashed by. It looked like a bird—Yin Weiyin glimpsed feathers shrouded in darkness!
Yin Weiyin’s skin prickled, her unease amplifying as the thick dust of the surroundings seemed to shift. Anything could leap out at any time from the darkness.
As the chilling wind swept past, a twisted, eerie laughter was carried on the air. The white-robed female crown formed a Golden Light Protection Seal, but her trembling fingers betrayed her fear.
Swish, swish...
As the black shadow swept closer, Yin Weiyin’s mind went blank.
In midair, strands of hair dropped before her eyes.
First one strand,
then more and more, longer and longer, until they almost touched the ground.
She froze entirely.
The stench of decay filled her nostrils as a ghastly pale face appeared before her. Its body was adorned with vivid, grotesque feathers in five colors. Its grin stretched wide, its eerie laughter chilling her to the bone!
The *Classic of Mountains and Seas Western Wilderness* records: The mountain of Xing Xuan Dan. There are birds with five colors, human faces, and hair. There reside the green Quing, yellow Ao, blue birds, and yellow birds. Wherever they gather, that land shall perish.
......
Chen Yi heard a piercing scream.
That voice carried terror—raw and harrowing—which seemed to penetrate the walls.
At first, Chen Yi couldn’t tell who it was, but he turned to investigate.
From a distance, he saw the disheveled figure of the white-robed crown.
Yin Weiyin had abandoned all dignity, near-flailing and stomping as she fled frantically, as though pursued by the Black and White Impermanence themselves. She scrambled so desperately that she tripped on a shard of pottery, stumbled, and fell hard, her white robes sullied and covered in dust—a truly sorry state.
Chen Yi scratched his head and looked behind her, finding nothing.
He approached Yin Weiyin, crouching down and asked:
"What are you running from?"
"Qing-Qing Quing! A Great Demon Qing Quing!"
Yin Weiyin stammered and trembled as she spoke, her terror evident.
Chen Yi gripped his blade and waited for a while, even pulling out the crimson Shariputra. Yet after all that waiting, nothing appeared.
Yin Weiyin regained a bit of her composure and lifted her head, her eyes falling on the crimson Shariputra.
In that instant, something clicked in her mind.
Chen Yi tucked the Shariputra away, sheathed his blade, and turned to leave.
"W-wait..."
Her voice rang, urgent.
"What is it?"
"I’ll go with you—to protect you and hold the fort."
Yin Weiyin slowly stood, her voice steady and firm.
Chen Yi chuckled coldly and started walking away.
The white-robed crown panicked, scrambling to follow him. She grabbed hold of a corner of Chen Yi’s clothing, trying to sound neutral:
"Take me with you. You need a Taoist..."
"Unless we’re sealing a Great Demon elsewhere, you’re entirely useless to me down here in this underground palace." Chen Yi stated impassively.
His words left Yin Weiyin wide-eyed.
Chen Yi shook loose her grip and strode forward.
Desperate, the white-robed crown hurriedly followed after him, flustered.
"Fine, fine! I was wrong! I’ll go with you... Just stop walking so fast; don’t leave me behind... Say something! Say something!"
Chen Yi halted for a moment, turning back to look at her with a sneering laugh.
"What’s so funny?"
Yin Weiyin frowned, clearly angry.
"Your arrogance turned to humility. It’s amusing to think about." Chen Yi mocked.
Yin Weiyin’s face turned ashen, her cheeks flushing hot. Her eyes flickered with resentment, but as Chen Yi turned to leave again, she instantly backed down, frantically saying:
"Fine, laugh as you please—even if you ridicule me until I bow to the earth, that’s fine—just don’t leave me behind..."
