My Dreams Connect to Ancient Times-Chapter 44 - 43: The Petty Supreme
"Dad, Lu Xuan agreed!"
After hanging up, Yan Jiangxue quickly dialed another number, unable to keep a smile off her face.
"That happy, are you?" the middle-aged man on the other end of the line sighed theatrically. "How long have you two even known each other? Any longer and my little girl will be gone for good!"
"Dad!" The girl’s cheeks flushed slightly as she stomped her foot. "What are you talking about!"
"My daughter’s all grown up now. Dad can’t even joke around anymore!"
"I’m not talking to you anymore! I’m going to do my historical research... And don’t forget to tell me about Li Er and Ancient Lu Xuan tomorrow!"
"Alright, alright. Your dad will tell you everything he knows, I promise."
Hanging up the phone with a satisfied heart, Yan Jiangxue propped her chin on her hands, a look of anticipation on her face.
’I wonder if Lu Xuan will bring me any snacks.’
’Mmm, he definitely will. In that case, I should bring something for him too!’
......
「On Taibai Star, another planet in the Solar System.」
The middle-aged man put down the phone and rubbed his brow. His secretary, standing to the side, spoke softly,
"Chairman, we’ve verified Lu Xuan’s information seventeen times. We’ve discovered why he previously had no identity on record. Lu Xuan is likely from... Qianlong City."
"Qianlong City?" Yan Huang’s expression shifted. "The one in Langya Province, at the foot of Taishan?"
"Correct. We just haven’t been able to identify who is backing him yet," the secretary confirmed with a nod. "Should we ensure he stays away from the young lady?"
"No, no, don’t do that." Yan Huang waved his hand dismissively. "Jiang Xue has finally made a friend; it wasn’t easy."
"Then should we help him? The think tank’s projections indicate that, based on current trends, he will most likely end up in opposition to Sakata Heavy Industries."
"No, not that either. According to his file, he’s reached the Marrow Refining Realm at such a young age, and we still have no leads on the faction backing him. For now, it’s best for Longque Technology to proceed with caution."
The secretary gave a sharp nod. Then, as if remembering something, he added,
"Oh, right. The file also says that Lu Xuan has a childhood sweetheart named Li Xiaosang. She’s already joined Longque Technology and is currently in training at headquarters."
"Oh? In that case, look after her a little. While we won’t help him directly, it can’t hurt to foster some goodwill indirectly. Consider it a passive move."
With that, Yan Huang stretched.
"Make the arrangements. I’m preparing to return to the Ancestor Star. I need to take a trip to East Sea City. It’s time for Wu Datong’s affair to conclude."
"But..." The secretary’s expression faltered. He reminded him, "The blockade of Langya Province has already made the Life Tower extremely unhappy. If you get involved personally, I’m afraid..."
"I’m not going to save him," Yan Huang said coolly. "Just to drive him off to some other place. Wu Datong was, after all, a Great Physician and a Ninth Grade True Immortal of the Life Tower. It’s better if I handle it personally."
......
「The Shantytown.」
Lu Xuan sat cross-legged on his bed. On a whim, he pulled a pack of meat jerky from under his pillow.
He opened the bag, picked out a stick, tore off a small piece, and popped it into his mouth.
He had barely chewed twice when his expression changed dramatically. The piece of jerky dissolved into a potent energy of flesh and blood that rushed violently into his stomach before spreading throughout his entire body!
This energy was different from that of the Innate Spirit Rice. While it was inferior in *quality*, the *quantity* was far greater, and it was much more violent!
He quickly calmed his mind and began to refine the fierce, fleshly energy, bit by bit.
After a long while, Lu Xuan breathed out a wave of searing hot air.
’This must be the meat of some Great Demon or powerful beast. It has to be incredibly precious. That girl...’
There were five sticks of jerky in the bag. Just eating a tenth of one stick took him nearly half an hour to refine!
He was cultivating the Supreme Foundation Establishment Chapter, a technique of profound mystery. His speed of Transforming Essence and Qi was a hundred times faster than the Jade Tower Breathing Technique, and he had even gained a rudimentary grasp of the Primordial Body, granting his Physique unknown, miraculous traits!
’I have to give her a gift in return.’
With that thought, Lu Xuan calmed his mind once more. He chewed off another piece of jerky, and as he refined it, he simultaneously visualized the Creation of the Universe, the Slaying Sword Form, and the Primordial Body. He was multitasking four different processes, yet he didn’t feel overwhelmed in the slightest.
In fact, he handled it with ease.
Time trickled by in quiet stillness, and in that stillness, he slowly grew stronger.
An entire day passed just like that.
The next day was Thursday. Just as the morning glow appeared, another battle between Immortals erupted on the horizon, staining the sky with the light of blood once more.
Before long, a tearful Wu Xiaoxu came running over. He said that Wu Datong had snuck out to gather medicinal herbs again, had taken another fall, and was now even more gravely injured.
After comforting the boy, Lu Xuan went with him to their home. This time, Wu Datong’s injuries were indeed far worse—his chest had been completely pierced through.
’Although I don’t know what powerful Divine Techniques those at the Earth Immortal Level possess, I’d imagine recovering from injuries should be easy for them. But the bleeding from the hole in Uncle Wu’s chest won’t stop. I’m afraid...’
After sending Xiaoxu away, Lu Xuan quietly asked about the injury and spoke candidly.
"I have a Spiritual Object called Innate Spirit Rice. Its effects are comparable to a Great Medicine of the Supreme Treasure class."
Wu Datong was taken aback. First surprise, then calm resignation showed on his face as he waved his hand.
"Innate Spirit Rice... I’ve heard of it. It contains Innate Essence and is exceptionally precious. It seems your fortuitous encounters are quite profound... But there’s no need. Innate Essence won’t help with these injuries."
He paused, sighed softly, and said with frank acceptance,
"Tomorrow will likely be my last day."
As he spoke, Wu Datong’s gaze grew deep, his resolve to die now set. "From now on... I’ll have to leave Xiaoxu in your care. Lu the Kid, thank you."
Lu Xuan felt a sting in his nose. He clasped his hands in a gesture of respect and departed in silence.
「Back at Home.」
’The battle of Earth Immortals...’
He focused his thoughts. Uncle Wu had been very good to him. Grandpa Chu had already been poor, and after adopting Lu Xuan seven years ago, he’d struggled even more. Uncle Wu had often helped them make ends meet, and Xiaoxu was his good friend.
’An Immortal...’ Lu Xuan suddenly thought of the Keeper of the Records’ Token.
He immediately lay down on his bed and tried to enter the dream, but he failed.
After a moment of thought,
Lu Xuan pushed his Mediation of Creation to its absolute limit. Waves rippled across the small space of his palm. Amidst the ripples, one grain of rice appeared, then a second, and finally, with extreme difficulty, a third.
A wave of dizziness and exhaustion washed over him. He tightly clutched the Innate Spirit Rice and collapsed onto the bed, unconscious.
This time, he successfully entered the dream.
......
「The Guardian Storage Room.」
Lu Xuan opened his eyes and looked around. The room was still filled with books, but his teacher and Senior Brother Zhang were gone.
He sighed softly, then realized he was sitting in the very spot his teacher usually occupied. Before him was a White Jade Table, upon which lay bamboo slips and the Keeper of the Records’ Token.
Grabbing the Token, Lu Xuan rubbed it for a moment and muttered to himself worriedly,
’I wonder if I can actually take this Token out of here...’
"Normally, you can’t take it out."
A teasing voice suddenly echoed from within the Guardian Storage Room:
"Little Junior Brother, bet you didn’t expect that! Surprised?"
"Senior Brother Zhang!" Lu Xuan started, then quickly rose to his feet, a joyful, childlike smile spreading across his face. "Didn’t Teacher send you to travel the world?"
He then added, a little worried,
"Won’t you get punished for this...?"
"What’s there to be afraid of!"
Zhang Ling declared, full of confidence.
"The first stop on my world tour is the Great Zhou Capital. That’s perfectly reasonable, isn’t it?"
He paused, puffed out his chest, and said with a smug look,
"Teacher won’t blame me even if he finds out. And taking it ten thousand steps back, even if he does get mad, what’s he going to do? Hit me from who-knows-how-far-away?"
The words had barely left his mouth when a hand, wreathed in Dao Rhyme, abruptly materialized from the void. With two fingers bent together, it delivered a light flick.
"OW!" Zhang Ling clutched his head, grimacing in pain. The single knock had left him completely dazed and disoriented.
The hand slowly faded away, and an ancient voice echoed through the Guardian Storage Room.
"Don’t let it happen again."
Lu Xuan blinked, then broke into a happy grin.
"Senior Brother Zhang, it looks like Teacher really *can* hit you from far away!"
Seeing his senior brother’s pained expression, he only laughed harder.
Zhang Ling, clutching his head with both hands, shot a sidelong glance at his gloating little junior brother:
"The Keeper of the Records’ Token can’t normally be taken out of the Guardian Storage Room... but I, your senior brother, might just have a way."
Lu Xuan’s expression changed in an instant. In a tone of shared indignation, he said,
"Teacher, honestly! To think he’d eavesdrop on us brothers talking..."
He hadn’t even finished his sentence when the ancient hand reappeared and came down with a sharp THWACK.
This time, it was Lu Xuan’s turn to be left grimacing in pain, dazed and disoriented.
"When did I ever eavesdrop?" the ancient voice said coolly. "All matters in this world reach my ears. If you do not wish for me to hear, then do not speak of me."
As if that wasn’t enough to vent his frustration, the old man’s hand delivered another THWACK to Zhang Ling’s head before finally disappearing.
The two brothers each clutched their heads, tears welling up in their eyes.
Lu Xuan, his face a mask of misery, muttered under his breath, "Teacher is so pett—"
The words had barely left his lips when he saw the void ripple again, and he jumped in fright.
"Teacher is so magnanimous!"
The ripples subsided. Nothing happened.
