Chapter 391: The Winner Of The Round(Bonus)

But Arnarra was still standing.

Despite the lightning stun from Kayden, she had managed to raise a partial defense.

Her wood magic had formed a canopy of interlocking branches overhead, just strong enough to deflect the worst of the steel lances.

She staggered, breathing hard, but she didn’t fall.

Then Lysandra saw her opportunity.

She raised her hand and whispered, "Times thirty."

And right then a magic circle appeared above Arnarra’s head, glowing with dark light as the gravitational force slammed down onto her like a hammer.

Arnarra’s knees buckled and herstaff fell from her hand. She tried to push herself up, but the weight was too much.

Her body was forced flat against the ground, and a flash of light consumed her.

——

The lesser god raised his hand. "Dragonhold wins!"

The crowd erupted into cheers.

In the Dragonhold section, the champions shot to their feet, shouting and applauding.

Although Oberon didn’t seem happy. That performance was somewhat not to his taste as he didn’t expect them to be cornered like that at first.

Kayden ran a hand through his hair, letting the lightning around him fade. Rin dismissed her steel magic with a flick of her wrist, while Lysandra simply turned and walked back toward the gate.

——

The day continued.

The other matches were announced one by one, and the battles unfolded across the arena.

Zahka faced Jogunmount. The warriors of Zahka moved brutally as their Ki-enhanced strikes overwhelming the giant transformations of Jogunmount.

The match ended in less than ten minutes and Zahka won.

Yul’thera faced Belforte. The Amazons coordinated perfectly, using their weapons and close-quarters combat to dismantle the Belforte mages before they could cast their most powerful spells.

And with that, they too won.

Skallgard faced Orathia. The viking warriors clashed against the rune mages. In the end, Skallgard’s raw power overwhelmed Orathia’s inscriptions and like that, they too had won the round.

Then came the final match.

Xathia versus Drakensport.

From the Xathia side, Syra stepped onto the arena floor and to everyone’s greatest surprise, She was alone.

King Cedric had sent only her.

The crowd murmured in confusion. Where were the other two champions?

But Cedric sat in the Xathia section with a calm smile on his face. He did this intentionally because he wanted the others to get scared even more at the sight of Syra’s power. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

From the Drakensport side, three mages stepped forward. They were skilled, experienced, and confident.

The lesser god raised his hand. "Begin!"

The moment the word was spoken, Syra raised her hand.

A magic circle formed in the air above her, glowing with an intense orange light.

"Vozun Inferna."

The temperature in the arena spiked considerably, and air around the three Drakensport mages warped as the heat intensified.

It wasn’t fire, but pure, concentrated thermal energy.

Within seconds, the moisture in their bodies began to evaporate. Their skin turned red, then pale as their mouths opened, gasping for air that burned their lungs.

They tried to cast defensive spells, but their magic circles flickered and collapsed. The heat disrupted their concentration and focus.

One of them collapsed to his knees. Then the second. Then the third.

And with that, all three of them vanished in flashes of light.

The whole match had lasted less than thirty seconds.

The crowd were stunned for a moment. Then, slowly, the murmurs began.

"Did that just happen?"

"She didn’t even move."

"What kind of magic is that?"

From the Dragonhold section, Thamoryn watched with wide eyes. She leaned toward Oberon and said quietly, "The kind of magic that elf wields is absolutely scary."

Oberon didn’t respond but his expression was troubled as he stared down at the arena floor.

From the Xathia section, King Cedric gave an approving nod. He was pleased.

——

By the end of the day, the results had been made clear.

The five winners of the first round were:

Dragonhold.

Zahka.

Yul’thera.

Skallgard.

Xathia.

The crowd murmured as Adam rose from his seat once more. His voice echoed across the colosseum.

"The first round is complete. Tomorrow, the second round will begin."

He paused, then added, "But first, I will announce the kingdom that performed best today. That kingdom will advance directly to the final match."

The crowd fell silent as eye turned toward Adam.

He raised his hand, and golden light formed in the air before him.

"The best-performing kingdom is Xathia"

The announcement pushed the crowd into both murmurs and cheers.

It wasn’t really a surprise to anyone. Of course it was Xathia. How could it be anything else?

Syra had eliminated three mages in less than thirty seconds without breaking a sweat. No other match had come close to that level of dominance.

In the Xathia section, King Cedric’s expression remained calm, almost indifferent. He didn’t stand.

The Greystone simply gave a small nod of approval as he had expected nothing less.

This was the second reason he had sent Syra in alone. One person eliminating three was impressive enough to guarantee the bye. And now, Xathia would advance directly to the final match without having to fight again.

——

In the Dragonhold section, Oberon’s hands clenched into fists. He hated this outcome.

Even if Dragonhold managed to win their next match in the second round, they would still have to face Xathia in the final. And Xathia had Syra.

That alone was a problem.

Oberon exhaled, forcing himself to remain calm. But the tension in his shoulders didn’t ease.

Beside him, Thamoryn glanced at her husband. She didn’t say anything, but she could see the frustration in his eyes.

Across the colosseum, the other kingdoms felt the same.

In the Zahka section, Tzar folded his arms and said quietly, "We’ll have to deal with her eventually."

——

Later that evening, deep within Dragonhold’s castle-like house, a large training room stretched out beneath the ground.

It was enormous and its walls were reinforced with enchantments. The room had been designed specifically for combat practice.

Right now, it was filled with motion.

Streaks of white lightning and golden light danced around each other, weaving through the air in rapid, chaotic patterns. The two forces collided, separated, then collided again, moving so fast that they were almost impossible to track.

Then, suddenly, both stopped.

Oberon and Thamoryn stood across from each other, breathing hard.

Oberon’s white lightning crackled faintly around his body, and sweat dripped down his face.

Thamoryn, on the other hand, was barely winded. Her light magic still glowed faintly around her, but her breathing was steady.

Oberon raised his hand. "Enough."

Thamoryn dismissed her magic and looked at him. "Are you ready, Your Grace?"

Oberon nodded, wiping the sweat from his brow.

Tomorrow, he would be one of the champions entering the fray.

And he intended to win.
