Chapter 382: The Final Two

Azam and Kaia were breathing hard as they stared at each other.

The captain of the silver pegasus was over Kaia’s body, with most of her back pressed against the ground.

His hand gripped her throat, although not tight enough to choke, but firm enough to hold her in place. His other fist was raised, ready to punch.

Both of them had smiles on their faces.

Kaia looked up at him with gleaming eyes, "Why are you hesitating? Finish it."

Azam’s grin widened. "I could say the same for you."

Behind him, Kaia had managed to raise her tail. It was coiled around a short blade with its tip pointed directly at Azam’s back.

Kaias still had a smile on her face. "This is a war."

Azam nodded. "One of us has to get eliminated."

They stared at each other for another moment but the only thing that kept building was this tension between them.

Then, suddenly, they both collided their lips into a deep kiss right there on the battlefield.

Azam’s hand lowered from her throat and Kaia’s tail dropped, letting the blade fall.

Back at the fortress, Oberon slammed his palm on his face and dragged it down over his eyes in disappointment. "Unbelievable."

On the battlefield, Kaia shifted during the kiss. She rolled her body over so that she was on top now, straddling Azam as they continued rolling their tongues together into a lot of kissing.

And with that, the world around them seemed to have faded away.

——

Elsewhere on the battlefield, Lysandra walked quietly beside her partner, a mage from Belforte named Garrett. He carried a staff and kept glancing at her nervously, as though unsure whether to speak.

She said nothing, and simply just maintained a calm, unbothered expression.

Then Garrett stopped. He was staring ahead, with his eyes wide. "We’ve got company."

A figure stepped out from behind a cluster of rocks. He wore a lightblue robe which signified that he was a champion for Uweron.

The man was tall and lean, with sharp features and dark eyes. He had flames dancing around his hands and smile on his face as he looked at them.

"Two of Valaross," he said. "How convenient." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Garrett raised his staff in readiness to act but without warning, the Uweron mage thrust his hand forward and released a torrent of fire.

The flames roared across the distance, at such intense pace.

Garrett barely had time to raise a glowing yellow barrier before the fire struck. The heat was overwhelming, and his barrier cracked under the pressure. Sweat poured down his face as he struggled to hold it.

Lysandra raised her hand and magic circle appeared in front of her.

In that moment, the space around the flames warped. The fire slowed and bent downward as though being pushed down by an invisible weight. Then it collapsed entirely, snuffed out before it could break through Garrett’s barrier.

The Uweron mage’s eyes widened. "What—"

But the grading system, the strength of his magic was at the S rank level of strength, yet this young lady had just dealt with it so casually.

Lysandra still had that calm expression on her face as she made another magic circle appeared above the Uweron mage’s head.

"Times five." She whispered.

The air above him distorted, then an invisible force slammed down onto his shoulders like a hammer.

He dropped to one knee with a grunt, and his flames began flickering weakly. He tried to stand, but right then the pressure increased.

"Time ten"

His body was forced flat against the ground, with his face pressed into the dirt. He couldn’t move, and could barely even breathe properly.

Garrett simply stared in shock. "Such power..."

She kept her eyes on the Uweron mage as she walked closer. Then suddenly the magic circle above him glowed brighter and the pressure increased even more.

"Times thirty!"

The ground beneath him cracked and his body was flattened completely as he let out a strangled gasp before disappearing in a flash of light.

Eliminated.

Lysandra lowered her hand and the magic circle faded.

Garrett stared at her, with his mouth opened in shock. "That was... incredible."

Lysandra then said, "Let’s move"

She turned and continued walking without offering any more with words.

Garrett hurried to follow her, still processing what he had just seen.

Far across the battlefield, another Uweron mage stood over the body of a fallen Lomen warrior.

The warrior had just been eliminated, and the Uweron mage was breathing hard, with this bluish miasma around his hand.

Then he felt a sudden presence.

He turned just in time to see Lysandra walking toward him, and Garrett following right behind.

The Uweron mage began. "Who—"

But she didn’t give him time to finish as she raised her hand towards him. A magic circle appeared and from it was a black sphere that shot out.

It reached a close proximity to the Uweron mage and began pulling. The mage made the attempt to dissolve into bluish mist but even that could not avoid the pulling effect of a mini black hole.

The pressure only increased further, and took all of him into the blackhole. Then he disappeared in a flash of light.

Eliminated.

That was when Lysandra undid the blackhole attack.

Garret was too shocked for words as he had just watched this lady eliminate two mages from the toughest continent they had to face in this war.

Aiden had a smile on his face as he watched from the floating island.

Oberon who was watching from the hall could not help but be amazed. However one worry crept in immediately.

Just what if Lysandra decided to come back for Dragonhold someday.

——

As the day wore on, the battlefield became a graveyard of eliminations.

Anane and Lomen fought desperately, but they were outmatched. Uweron’s mages moved with precision, eliminating champion after champion.

Their coordination was flawless, and their magic, diverse and powerful.

But Valaross, thanks to their strategy and the overwhelming power of their champions, held their ground.

Elian used his Art Magic to trap entire groups in invisible barriers, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks from his teammates.

Rin eliminated three Lomen warriors in a single engagement as her demon form tore through them with speed and ferocity.

Aeris and her dragon Slyrak incinerated a pair of Anane beast tamers who had attempted to ambush a Valaross pair.

And Lysandra continued her quiet, methodical elimination of anyone who crossed her path.

By midday, Anane had lost enough champions to push them over the elimination threshold.

A flash of light swept across the battlefield as all remaining Anane champions were pulled out simultaneously.

The battlefield then grew even quieter.

Azam lay on the ground beside Kaia, with the both of them staring up at the sky.

They had stopped fighting actually, and had spent the entire day together, talking, laughing, and occasionally sparring halfheartedly.

Suddenly Kaia’s body began to glow as she let out a long sigh. "I guess this is it."

Azam had a smile on his face, "yeah"

She was just about to get pulled out of the field given her continent had just lost.

"It was fun, Azam." She said, then reached out and touched his face gently. "Maybe we’ll meet again after all this."

Azam had a smile on his face as he nodded, and right then she disappeared in a flash of light.

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Damn it."

Lomen followed soon after. Their warriors fought bravely, but one by one, they were eliminated. By sundown, they too had crossed the threshold.

Another flash of light, and they were gone.

Now only two continents remained.

Valaross and Uweron.

Back at the Valaross fortress, the champions materialized in their hall as sunset hit. The moment they appeared, the entire room erupted into applause and cheers.

Lysandra walked in quietly, with unnchanging expression. She moved past the crowd without acknowledging the applause and took a seat near the back of the hall. A few people glanced at her with a mixture of awe and uncertainty.

And Elena had a worried look on her face.

Azam walked in last, looking a bit disheveled. His robe was torn in a few places, and there was dirt smudged across his face.

A few person had judgy faces as he watched and when he noticed, he threw his hands up in exasperation, then said "oh c’mon, you lot never fell in love before?"

A good part of the hall went up in laughter.

Shortly after, Oberon raised his hand, and the room fell silent. "You all did well today," he said. "We are now one of the final two continents standing. Tomorrow, we face Uweron."

The room grew serious.

Oberon continued. "They are strong, but we have champions who refuse to fall."

The hall erupted into cheers once more.

Oberon let them celebrate for a moment, then raised his hand again. "Get some rest. Tomorrow, we finish this."
