My Dragon King System-Chapter 295: Against The Demon King Pt.6: Futility
This left Samael no other choice but to use an ability he had only recently acquired through absorbing a victim’s fragment of transcendence.
Rhyos’s power of gateways.
In that moment, a large circular portal twirled open right in front of Aiden’s portal. It acted as a covering over the gateway Aiden had created, blocking their entry totally.
Syqora flew through the circular portal Samael had made instead, emerging on the other side through another gateway that had formed at a different corner of the sky.
Syqora’s eyes widened as he realized he had moved through another portal entirely. But before any further thought could even register, Samael broke free of his grip.
The fallen angel grabbed the same forelimb that had been holding him and flung Syqora away with brutal force, causing the Dragon of Destiny to crash into the ground below with a thunderous impact that shook the grounds of Eden.
Aiden’s eyes carried the same disbelief. He couldn’t even process what had just happened.
How did Samael have such power? 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
But a deeper realization hit him then.
Was he even beatable?
Adam, who watched from above, immediately widened his eyes in recognition. Was that Rhyos’s divine magic?
Thyron and Orlien, who had fallen into each other moments before, caught wind of Samael’s escape.
They pushed themselves back to their feet, shaking off the impact as they turned toward him once more.
Samael stretched his hand out and called out to his spear, and the Longinus traveled a great distance in an instant and appeared in the grip of his palm.
He then surveyed the battlefield given he was floated above them now.
To his right were Thyron and Orlien. To his left was Syqora, who he had just crashed into the ground. And floating some distance directly in front of him was the black dragon.
Aiden stared right back at Samael. He let go of his hold on the portal since it clearly hadn’t worked.
He raised his hand toward Samael, preparing to cast another authority skill. But he paused for a second, weighing the situation.
His gaze moved downward toward Syqora, who was trying to get back to his feet despite the wounds he had sustained.
Then he looked to the other side where Orlien and Thyron stood. They both looked very much beaten up as well.
And in that moment, Aiden realized something; this was really all futile against Samael.
This newfound power and transformation into what looked like a half-demon, half-angel form was not what they had envisioned at all.
At this point, only one thing was certain. They would not win this battle.
Which left Aiden with one possible option. This could barely even be called hope, but it was the only thing he had left.
He was going to willingly fall back to his fail-safe.
Samael stared at the black dragon from above. He wanted to get rid of it most of all especially as Aiden was the only one who could open portals that could potentially send him away.
And with that thought, he charged toward Aiden with his spear raised right in front of him.
Thyron immediately flew after him, chasing Samael while releasing multiple energy blasts toward the fallen angel.
Orlien stayed right behind her, channeling her authority toward attacking Samael’s soul structure directly.
But all their attempts failed. Samael had already adapted and evolved past them both.
Aiden, on his own part, did absolutely nothing.
Thera, who was watching from a distance whispered to herself.
"Come on, Black Dragon. Escape from there. Do something."
Adam turned toward the avatar at his side and asked, "Will you not go assist your original?"
The avatar shook its head calmly and said, "This is the only way."
Samael eventually reached the black dragon, and without any sort of defense stopping him, he stabbed forward with the Longinus.
The spear pierced straight through Aiden’s chest, causing the black dragon to scream.
A scream of pain that echoed across Eden’s skies.
"No..." Thera whispered, with tear-filled eyes.
The other Archons saw this with varying levels of discomfort on their faces. Some turned away. Others simply stared in shock.
Orlien and Thyron looked visibly distraught. Their eyes widened in horror as they watched their ally fall.
Syqora, who had just recovered enough to stand upright again, saw this and was shaken to the core. His entire body trembled as he stared at what had just happened.
———
Within Ravens Grave Guild, a sudden pain struck both Laela and Arianna in their chests.
They gasped simultaneously, with their hands flying to clutch at their chests as the pain struck them.
The other guild members rushed toward them immediately, surrounding them with concern written across their faces.
"What’s wrong?" Katherine asked urgently, kneeling beside them.
But before either woman could answer, their attention turned toward the time variant Aiden had left behind.
Its form had begun disintegrating.
The variant stood near the corner of the room beside both women, and now cracks were spreading across its body like shattered glass.
Pieces of it began breaking away into particles of light.
Aeris turned immediately and rushed toward it, with panic in her voice.
"What’s happening? What’s happening?" she demanded.
But the variant said nothing. It simply stared ahead with expressionless eyes as its form continued crumbling apart.
Within moments, it disappeared from sight, vanishing into nothing.
Laela, still clutching her hand over her chest, kept repeating the same words in a trembling voice.
"Aiden, no. Aiden..."
———
Samael twisted the spear inside Aiden’s chest, making sure it pierced further through before pulling it out forcefully with a brutal yank.
Aiden’s massive dragon form began falling from the skies. His wings went limp as his body plummeted downward toward the ground below.
The avatar who had been standing beside Adam started disintegrating as well, with its form began breaking apart piece by piece and crumbling into particles of light.
But before its head vanished completely, it whispered one final word.
"Checkpoint."
