Chapter 269: Unready

Rin was staring down at her hands with sadness written all over her face.

"I messed up again," she said in a voice filled with disappointment.

Arianna immediately stepped closer and placed one hand gently on Rin’s shoulder.

"Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself. You were so close that time."

Laela moved to Rin’s other side and nodded in agreement. "You really were," she added warmly. "We could see it forming this time. You’re getting better with every attempt."

Rin looked up at them both with uncertainty still lingering in her eyes, but their encouragement seemed to ease some of the disappointment she felt.

Arianna glanced at Laela, and they exchanged a look before turning back toward Rin together.

"How about we take a break for now?" Arianna suggested.

Laela nodded in agreement. "We can try again later when you’re feeling refreshed."

Rin hesitated for a moment before finally nodding slowly. "Okay."

And then, without warning, Aiden appeared before them.

He materialized in an instant using Void Step, standing just a few paces away from where the three of them stood together, and all three women turned toward him immediately.

The expressions on his wives’ faces brightened considerably. Both Arianna and Laela moved toward him at once, and he opened his arms to receive them.

They embraced him warmly, with Laela wrapping her arms around his torso while Ariana pressed herself against his side.

For a brief moment, Aiden allowed himself to relax in their presence.

Aeris, who had been mid-swing with one of her twin blades, stopped abruptly when she noticed Aiden’s arrival.

She turned her head toward him, and a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips before she quickly turned away and resumed her sword training, though her movements were a bit less focused than before.

After a moment, Laela pulled back slightly from the embrace and looked up at Aiden with concern in her eyes.

"How did the meeting go?" she asked.

Aiden sighed heavily, and his mood visibly changed a bit at the question.

"I’ve already informed them to be at the ready," he said. "That’s all I could do for now."

Arianna, now holding his hand, squeezed it reassuringly and spoke. "Don’t worry, It’ll all be fine."

Aiden looked down at her and tried to put up a smile. "I hope so.

He seemed to have remembered something, then added, "Your father asked after you."

Arianna’s face brightened a bit more at that. "Oh? How is he?"

"Hale and hearty," Aiden replied with a faint smile this time.

Arianna smiled warmly at that.

But then Aiden’s gaze shifted past them both and landed on Rin, who stood a little ways off with a noticeably moody expression on her face.

Aiden asked, "Hey, What’s wrong?"

Rin looked up at him briefly before averting her gaze again without answering.

Laela turned toward Aiden and explained.

"We’ve been trying to help her cast her first magic spell."

Rin sighed heavily and muttered under her breath, "Everything keeps distracting me."

Aiden walked over to where Rin stood and stopped just in front of her. "I know you’ll get it right," he said with genuine confidence in his voice. "You just need a little more time and practice."

Rin looked up at him then, her moody expression softening slightly as she nodded without saying anything.

Aiden straightened back up and turned toward Laela and Arianna once more.

"I have to go for now," he said. "I just came to check in on you all."

Both women nodded in understanding, though there was a tiny disappointment on their faces that he couldn’t stay longer.

Aeris had stopped mid-swing once again during this exchange as she stared in their direction from across the field.

As Aiden pulled away from his wives’ embrace and prepared to leave, he caught sight of Aeris watching them from afar.

He turned his head toward her and gave a small nod in greeting.

Aeris hesitated for just a moment before awkwardly raising her right hand toward him in return, offering a wave.

Aiden had barely seen that before vanishing out of sight once more.

——

Aiden reappeared in his Pocket Domain a moment later, standing on one of the floating rock platforms near the center of the vast expanse.

And waiting for him there were three figures.

The dragons.

They stood together near the edge of the platform in their more humanoid forms.

Aiden knew what Syqora looked like, he had seen the Dragon of Destiny in this form before, but Thyron and Orlien appeared differently now that he was seeing them up close for the first time in these shapes.

Thyron, the Dragon of Creation, had white hair that flowed down past her shoulders, with curved horns, wings, and a tail. She wore a regular dress, with slits that revealed her laps and it seemed she had white armored plating on her arms.

Orlien, the Dragon of Mind, had silver hair with curved black horns, purple wings, and red eyes.

Somehow she was dressed more loosely and considerably more revealing than Thyron. You could see the cleavage of her breasts and her laps in full.

"It’s been two days," Aiden began as he approached. "And Samael hasn’t acted yet. I would have expected he’d be coming after us just immediately. "

Syqora nodded in acknowledgment of Aiden’s words before speaking.

"I admit that’s unlike what we expected as well," Syqora said calmly. "Samael is an existence currently above our level, which makes it difficult for me to see proper glimpses of his fate."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"The glimpses I do get are fragmented, not enough to say with certainty what direction he intends to take next."

"Most importantly," Thyron said sharply, turning her glowing gaze directly toward Aiden, "when is this system of yours going to grant you Thyrak’s full potential?"

She gestured toward him with one hand as she added "Should Samael come today, right now you in this form are not anywhere near ready."

Aiden exhaled slowly and shook his head.

"That part is beyond my control, but I’m very much certain the system knows how dire the situation is."

Thyron frowned deeply at that answer but said nothing more for the moment.

——

Meanwhile, in Eden, within a wide chamber...

The room was grand and with high ceilings, in the center of the chamber was a massive bed, and upon it lay Lilith and Samael.

They had just finished another round of sex with each other, and now Lilith still lay across Samael’s chest, her fingers patterns along his skin as they spoke.

There was laughter between them, and it looked like they exchanged light playful jokes.

After a moment, Samael asked casually, "What of my generals?"
