My Dragon Baby and Billionaire Husband-Chapter 797: Two Paths to Death, Please Choose 2
"If the Vampire King, Elder Chen, hadn’t stumbled upon my father—who was floating on the sea, gasping for his last breath—and turned him into a vampire, the wild grass on my father’s grave would be inches tall by now!"
As Geshu Tang mentioned this past event, his expression turned quite unsightly.
He said grimly, "In the end, it was your mother who killed my brother!"
"Oh, is that so?"
Mo Yinhe drew out his words, a cold laugh escaping him. "Geshu Chen personally told my mother that he had slaughtered my father and thrown his corpse into the sea. Do you think my mother shouldn’t have sought revenge for our father?"
Back then, his mother believed Geshu Chen had killed her husband. Consumed by fury, she stormed back to Atlantis alone!
Geshu Tang, recalling the past, said, "Your mother’s return to Atlantis dragged the struggle for the throne from covert scheming into open turmoil, igniting the war for the crown."
"She went to the Crown Prince and told him the Second Prince was plotting a coup that very night. Then, she ran to the Second Prince, claiming the Third Prince was planning a coup. She even told the Third Prince that the Fifth Princess was plotting one too. This spurred all the princes and princesses into action."
"During those days, the Imperial Capital was engulfed in the flames of war. All the princes, princesses, and the armies they could muster joined the battle."
"The Fifth Princess was the strongest contender for the throne at that time. Other princes either lost their lives in the internecine struggle or were eliminated by her forces. Your mother waited until the Fifth Princess had dealt with the other heirs. Then, at the zenith of the Fifth Princess’s triumph, your mother stabbed her, profiting from the chaos to become the last contender standing."
As Geshu Tang reminisced, a trace of admiration actually flickered across his face.
"Back then, your mother was the least likely candidate to become Empress. She was a nobody in everyone’s eyes, lacking background and power. No one could have imagined she would be the one to ultimately triumph."
"It can’t be said she was merely opportunistic; she was brave and resourceful—the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind."
"She wanted to avenge your father by killing the Fifth Princess, but relying on her own strength was a fool’s dream. No one expected her to find another way, stirring up all the princes and inciting that night’s palace upheaval."
"At that time, my Geshu Family backed the Fifth Princess. But the Fifth Princess we supported was assassinated by your mother, ruining all our plans in one fell swoop. I had to make a split-second decision and support your mother’s ascension to the throne!"
"Otherwise, if Atlantis were left without an heir, the entire country would have descended into chaos, fragmented and consumed by war! To ensure the nation’s stability, we had to put forward a rightful heir!"
"Your mother was the former emperor’s adopted daughter and also a Mermaid! The people of Atlantis revered Mermaids as the Sea God in their hearts! She was the only choice to prevent the nation from falling into disorder!"
Geshu Tang still remembered that day when blood flowed like rivers in the Imperial Capital.
Seeing all the princes and princesses lying in pools of blood, he had no choice but to make an instant decision and declare to everyone: "This woman shall be Empress!"
Geshu Tang chuckled. "Indeed, I personally forced her onto the throne. She was only twelve that year and hated the crown, blaming the struggle for it for your father’s death. She fled, met her foster father, and lived on land as an ordinary girl—going to school, working, and later, by a stroke of luck, ’won’ your father at the Civil Affairs Bureau."
"She could have remained an ordinary girl, the national treasure Mermaid of A Country. It was us, the six major families, who decided to kidnap her, bring her back to Atlantis, and force her to ascend the throne."
"As I said, I had no choice at the time. The former emperor had no more offspring. If she didn’t take the throne, the country would be plunged into chaos. For the sake of our nation’s peace and stability, even if she was unwilling, we had to push her into that position!"
Mo Yinhe stood up, hands clasped behind his back, a hint of mockery in his eyes. "You all thought my mother had no desire for the throne, didn’t you? That even if pushed into the position of Empress, she would merely be a puppet?"
"The six major families established the Federal Government, holding the real power. You were all very satisfied with this system, enjoying its benefits. But you didn’t expect that years ago, an ambitious person like me would emerge and shatter your perfect arrangement, did you?"
"Uncle Geshu, you must be quite dissatisfied with me, yes? Dreaming of grinding my bones to dust? But reality is unpredictable; who can have everything go their way for a lifetime?"
"Even I have never had entirely smooth sailing..."
Mo Yinhe felt a surge of emotion as he continued, "Uncle Geshu, Elder Bai, Yong Shifeng, winners become kings, losers are vilified. You’ve lost. You are all people of status. I am grateful you pushed my mother into that position. Out of respect for that, I don’t wish to strip you of your dignity. So, go back and prepare an ending for your respective families."
From this day forward, among the six great families, there would be no more Bai, Geshu, or Yan!
Mo Yinhe made his decision, rose, and left the interrogation room with his wife and children.
Walking down the long corridor, Si Mingjing asked him, "Just like that? You’re letting them go back? Aren’t you afraid the three families will be driven to desperation and unite against you?"
Mo Yinhe, cradling Bo Fengyin in his left arm and Ye Nianbai in his right, walked shoulder to shoulder with Si Mingjing.
Under the light, their shadows stretched and shrank, sometimes intertwining, sometimes separating.
He said, "Do you think your husband grew up a vegetarian?"
"You really have been a vegetarian for ninety-nine lifetimes."
The color in Mo Yinhe’s eyes deepened, an undercurrent swirling in their depths as he glanced at her. "Mingjing, is that an invitation? I’m not abstaining in this life!"
Si Mingjing laughed.
She said, "Are we staying Undersea tonight?" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"It seems my wife can’t wait?"
Si Mingjing quickened her pace with a smile.
Mo Yinhe set the two children down. "Weren’t you worried about your aunt? Go find her."
Ye Nianbai scampered off.
Bo Fengyin followed.
After sending the children away, Mo Yinhe caught up with Si Mingjing.
He swept her into his arms and carried her directly to the Undersea bedchamber.
They were lost in each other in the bedchamber for about two hours. Afterward, having bathed, they lay in bed chatting idly.
Si Mingjing, exhausted, lay in Mo Yinhe’s arms, not wanting to move.
She said, "Are you sure they won’t make a desperate move?"
Mo Yinhe twirled a strand of her hair around his finger, his smile dangerous and arrogant. "I would love nothing more. That would give me the perfect reason to ensnare them all at once. It’s best if they do make a desperate move and willingly offer their necks to my blade!"
A faint smile touched Si Mingjing’s lips as she recognized the malicious intent behind her husband’s actions. Release the tigers back to the mountains to force them to rebel. If they revolted now, the public would know they were acting out of desperation. If they didn’t, their families would be toppled overnight; she could almost see their great houses fall. That scoundrel Mo Yinhe had given them two paths, and both led to death! It was a dead end, with almost no escape. Putting herself in their shoes, Si Mingjing wondered what she would do if faced with such a predicament.
