Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Cheetah Hunting Crossbow

Along with the Dragon Gall Crossbow, Fang Zhen had also purchased the Cheetah M81-7 Camo Edition Hunting Crossbow.

This model was also nominally a "two-in-one bow," but it was really a crossbow—a repeating crossbow with sniping capabilities, no less.

Based on its specs, Fang Zhen estimated the Dragon Gall Crossbow’s initial velocity to be between 70 and 80 m/s.

He had a feel for it from when he shot the Kobolds. From firing to impact, it took less than half a second to cover a distance of about 40 meters.

The initial velocity of the Cheetah M81-7 Camo Edition Hunting Crossbow, however, reached a staggering 140 m/s!

According to the laws of kinetic energy, the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow should be more than twice as powerful as the Dragon Gall Crossbow.

Fang Zhen felt a hint of surprise, and also a bit of excitement.

When Fang Zhen placed the order, the WeChat merchant, ’A Weilong Outdoor’, had told him the Cheetah M81-7 Camo Edition Hunting Crossbow was out of stock. He’d have to get it from his supplier, which would take seven to ten days.

Fang Zhen had based his plans on that timeline, thinking that by the time the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow arrived, he would have likely already cleared the Redstone Town Mine instance.

He never expected ’A Weilong Outdoor’ to ship it early.

Fang Zhen took a deep breath. "Wait a second, let me get my bank card."

Fang Zhen turned and went inside, retrieved his bank card, and came back to the door to swipe it on the delivery guy’s POS machine.

He had bought the top-of-the-line deluxe version of the Cheetah M81-7, which cost him 3,188 yuan.

After finishing the transaction, the delivery guy took the elevator downstairs.

Feeling a thrill of excitement, Fang Zhen moved the large cardboard box into the living room and closed the door.

Fang Zhen picked up his phone from the shoe cabinet, opened WeChat, and found his chat with A Weilong Outdoor.

He opened it and saw several new messages.

"Voice Call: Canceled"

Below that were three voice messages.

Fang Zhen tapped and listened to them.

"Hey man, that top-spec camo Cheetah M81-7 you ordered? I shipped it out to you early."

"I originally said I’d have to wait about seven days for my supplier, but he was surprisingly quick and got it sorted out in just a few days. Then I saw that your address is actually closer to my supplier than I am. Plus, I figured you’re a trustworthy customer since you paid for the Dragon Gallbladder Two-in-One Bow so promptly, so I just had the supplier ship it directly to you. Didn’t want to waste your time."

"My friend, I can tell you’re an enthusiast. From now on, whenever I get new stock, I’ll send you a message with some pictures and videos. If you see anything you like, just hit me up. I love doing business with straightforward, no-hassle customers like you."

After listening to the three voice messages, Fang Zhen understood.

’Heh, this Weilong Outdoor guy is pretty bold. He’s not even worried I’ll contact his supplier directly. I guess he has his reasons.’

Fang Zhen smiled.

He didn’t dwell on it. His attention quickly shifted to his newly acquired equipment as he looked at the cardboard box.

’I’m actually getting a little giddy.’ Fang Zhen rubbed his hands together in genuine excitement, feeling that pre-unboxing thrill.

He picked up the karambit by the door and cut open the cardboard packaging.

Inside the box was the familiar shock-absorbing foam. The main body of the Cheetah M81-7 was nestled within, and underneath it was a rather impressive light-blue plastic case.

Fang Zhen took out the main body of the Cheetah M81-7. It was fairly simple, consisting of the bow assembly, the stock, the sight, and the magazine.

Having assembled the Dragon Gall Crossbow once before, it was a case of practice makes perfect. One look at the structure and he knew he could put it together in under a minute without any issue.

He then opened the light-blue plastic case.

The plastic case was over 70 centimeters long, more than 20 centimeters wide, and about 15 centimeters deep.

Fang Zhen opened it to find it filled with all sorts of accessories.

’Whoa.’ Fang Zhen marveled at the sight of the accessories.

The case contained the accessories for the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow.

The accessories sent with the Hunting Crossbow included a large laser for aiming, a portable tactical tripod, five 338 Hunting Arrows, forty 145 arrows, forty 8008 arrows, and a box of 500 steel balls.

Fang Zhen took out all the accessories, found the instruction manual, and began to assemble it.

「Two minutes later.」

The Cheetah M81-7 was fully assembled in Fang Zhen’s hands.

This Hunting Crossbow looked more advanced and had a higher-quality feel, yet its structure was actually simpler. It was the kind of product with a thoughtful design that considered the user’s ease of assembly.

’Praise modern industry.’ Holding the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow, Fang Zhen liked it more and more the longer he looked at it.

Overall, the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow had smooth lines, looking sleek and beautiful with a solid feel. From any angle, it resembled a sniper rifle.

The Hunting Crossbow had a total length of 88 centimeters and a stock just like a rifle. On top of the "gun" was a 4-16x44 red/green illuminated high-definition, shock-resistant scope. Mounted above that was the Large Laser Sighting Device. Below was the crossbow body, structured like a sniper rifle. Where the barrel of a sniper rifle would be, there was a horizontal bow limb. On the side was a lever for cocking the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow, and the very front was where you placed the crossbow arrow.

The stock and the grip underneath the Hunting Crossbow were finished in a brown-and-green camouflage pattern. The remaining parts were made of a special black steel alloy—sturdy yet lightweight, with a very solid feel. It was clearly a high-end item, and you could feel the matte texture of the metal when you touched it.

The body of the crossbow was very well-designed, clearly having undergone aesthetic consideration; it was quite beautiful.

But the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow was more than just good looks. Fang Zhen checked the specs in the manual: the Hunting Crossbow weighed 4 kilograms, had a draw weight of 95 kilograms, an astonishing initial velocity of 140 m/s, a maximum range of 230 meters, and an effective range of 150 meters.

That effective range was almost four times that of the Dragon Gall Crossbow.

For a sniping crossbow, the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow’s stats were simply off the charts.

From an aesthetic standpoint, the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow had better looks, greater power, and a wider range of applications.

Compared to the Dragon Gall Crossbow, the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow’s initial velocity was more than double, its optical scope was more powerful, and it even came with a Large Laser Sighting Device, which the Dragon Gall lacked.

Fang Zhen held the Hunting Crossbow with both hands and switched on the Large Laser Sighting Device.

Instantly, the large laser mounted in front of the Hunting Crossbow’s scope activated, and a green dot, about two fingers wide, landed on the head of the training dummy Fang Zhen was aiming at.

Holding the crossbow with both hands, Fang Zhen mimicked the tactical aiming stance of a special forces soldier from the movies.

The green dot from the Large Laser Sighting Device jumped around as he aimed, moving from the training dummy’s forehead to a succulent pot, then to a decorative vase on the table.

Fang Zhen was surprised to find how convenient this method of aiming was.

At close range, it was practically foolproof aiming. What you see is what you get. As long as the Large Laser Sighting Device itself was properly calibrated and not significantly off, aiming and shooting no longer relied on talent or feel—all you needed were eyes and hands.

Seeing this, Fang Zhen couldn’t resist the urge to try it out.

He not only wanted to test the accuracy of the Large Laser Sighting Device, but also the kinetic energy of the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow, the strength required to cock it, and its feel in a practical combat scenario.

And, one extremely important point—whether it could pierce armor.

Fang Zhen had encountered many armored units in the instance. Some wore leather armor, which wasn’t a major concern. Even the Dragon Gall Crossbow, loaded with an 8008 arrow, could easily penetrate leather armor’s defense.

The main issue was that, besides leather-armored units, there were also iron-armored ones.

When he first encountered the Iron-Armored Goblins, he had been a little shocked, but as he ran into more and more iron-armored units, the mystique had begun to fade.

Fang Zhen felt that whether it was the Iron-Armored Goblins or the Iron-Armored Dogmen, they probably weren’t as tough as they looked.

It was true they wore iron armor, but not all iron armor offered the same level of protection.

Chain Armor, scale mail, mail armor made of wires and iron rings, plate armor, and hybrid armor made with a mix of techniques all had different defensive capabilities.

For instance, mail armor was clearly inferior to plate armor in terms of defense.

Furthermore, the quality of the iron itself varied.

The products of modern industrial casting, like stainless steel, were worlds apart in strength and craftsmanship from those made with medieval smelting techniques.

Having seen it so often, Fang Zhen’s ability to discern these things had improved. He felt that the iron armor in the instance wasn’t all that special.

However, judging the strength of units like the Iron-Armored Dogmen was a matter of battlefield decisions and couldn’t be based on assumptions.

Fang Zhen decided to run a little experiment.

’The Dragon Gall Crossbow is a bit iffy, but the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow... with a good Crossbow Arrow and a good arrowhead, it should be able to pierce armor, right?’

’No use just thinking about it. I have the Hunting Crossbow right here. Time to test it.’
