My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 157 - 132: The ’Fallen Knight’ Dungeon Opens
"Let's go to the factory where we met last time. You still remember the way, right?" Fang Zhen asked.
"Yeah, I saved the location. I can be there in twenty minutes," Xiaojun replied.
"See you in twenty minutes, then," Fang Zhen said before hanging up.
This time, he had bought some more equipment from Weilong Outdoor, including a compound bow.
He had used slingshots and crossbows before, but never a bow and arrow. This was mainly because he'd never practiced, figured it would be slow to learn, and the power of a Crossbow Arrow was greater than a bow's.
But his perspective changed after seeing Gwendolyn's stunning rapid-fire technique.
Before, he didn't use a bow because he didn't know how. Now, having solidified many skills, he realized most of his shooting and ranged abilities were universal. He could skip the learning process and apply them directly to a compound bow.
A compound bow's power was certainly less than a Crossbow Arrow's, but it was more flexible and much faster.
The image of Gwendolyn loosing a veritable arrow storm in just over ten seconds had left a very deep impression on him.
'He figured he could pull that off, too.'
Fang Zhen started his car and drove toward the Beihu factory district.
「Over twenty minutes later, in the Beihu factory district.」
When Fang Zhen drove up, Xiaojun's Nissan was already parked there. It honked and flashed its lights in greeting.
Fang Zhen parked his car and got out.
Maybe it was the setting, or maybe it was just the atmosphere, but every time Fang Zhen met Xiaojun, he got a sense of déjà vu, like he was in a Xiangjiang cop movie watching an undercover agent meet his contact, or maybe smuggling contraband.
He shook his head to clear the thought and walked over to the Nissan.
Xiaojun opened his door and hopped out, looking as quiet and reserved as ever. He headed straight for the trunk to get the equipment.
"What did you bring this time? Your brother mentioned a little surprise. What is it?" Fang Zhen asked.
"The compound bow you wanted, some special arrows, a few arrow loaders, and a gun. My brother said you'd definitely like this," Xiaojun said.
"A gun?" Fang Zhen's brow twitched as he looked at Xiaojun in surprise.
"Oh, not a real gun. It's an electric one that shoots steel BBs. But it's pretty powerful, no worse than the Dragon Gall Crossbow at close range," Xiaojun said.
Fang Zhen nodded. 'That's more like it.'
If Weilong Outdoor really had such wild connections that they could get real guns in Xia Country, he would have considered it dangerous and thought about cutting ties.
Xiaojun took all the equipment out of the trunk.
There were two compound bows, two devices that looked like oversized revolver cylinders—though they were made of what looked like reinforced plastic, not metal—and a 'handgun.'
The handgun looked like a Colt 1911 replica, with a black exterior and a metal shell. It looked almost indistinguishable from a real gun.
"This is it, plus the targets." As he spoke, Xiaojun pulled out a long box for the special arrows, a case of empty beer bottles, and two archery targets from the trunk.
Fang Zhen looked at the gear. It was quite a lot.
He had only ordered one sixty-pound compound bow. Weilong Outdoor had said they had some new items that were inconvenient to discuss over WeChat or the phone, so they had Xiaojun bring them directly. If he liked them, he could keep them; if not, he could just take the compound bow.
Fang Zhen lent a hand, taking the two compound bows and the targets, and they walked toward the factory together.
The two of them walked to the factory, unlocked the door, and went to an open area inside.
Xiaojun set up the targets first, securing them in place, then walked back with Fang Zhen to a spot over fifty meters away.
"My brother said you wanted a compound bow, so he had me bring two. They're both sixty-pounders."
"Don't think that's too light. Any higher draw weight would be hard to pull. And at this weight, piercing a car door from fifty meters is a piece of cake," Xiaojun said.
He then pointed to the other compound bow.
This one had a long, black, rectangular metal box attached to it.
"This is a rapid-fire bow. That extra device is a rapid-fire magazine that can hold six arrows. The principle is the same as the Dragon Gall Continuous Crossbow. You just draw and you can fire repeatedly."
"The arrows are already loaded inside."
"I also brought an auxiliary arrow loader. This thing here. It can hold six arrows, and you can use it on a regular compound bow. No need to learn any fancy rapid-fire techniques; you can just use this tool."
"Oh? This looks pretty useful." Fang Zhen examined the loader.
He picked up the rapid-fire compound bow and tugged the black magazine. The sixty-pound bow was smooth and easy to draw.
"This bow has a laser sight..." Xiaojun started to say, but he saw Fang Zhen ignore the laser sight and start firing in rapid succession. It looked like he was shooting wildly, loosing an arrow in less than a second.
"WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!" The arrows tore through the air, all of them landing steadily on the target fifty meters away.
Xiaojun's expression was one of shock. He had brought a pair of pocket binoculars and raised them for a look.
All hits. All bullseyes.
Xiaojun's jaw dropped. He turned his head to look at Fang Zhen.
"Basic stuff. Stay calm," Fang Zhen said.
He picked up the other, regular compound bow and the auxiliary arrow loader, quickly figuring out how it worked.
The arrow loader could be attached to the top and bottom of the bow's riser. The topmost arrow was perfectly positioned to be drawn and nocked. After one arrow was drawn, a mechanical structure would rotate the next one up into place, continuing the cycle.
The loader could hold 6 arrows, and you could attach one on each side, allowing for a maximum of 12 rapid shots.
Fang Zhen tried loading arrows into the device and securing it to the compound bow. It added some extra weight, but it wasn't a major issue.
"Time me," Fang Zhen said.
Xiaojun froze for a second before understanding. He opened the stopwatch app on his phone.
Fang Zhen aimed at the target fifty meters away and activated his Intuitive Shot skill.
"WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!"
He nocked his arrows extremely fast, loosing one in less than a second. His accuracy was a bit worse than before, but they all landed within the inner rings of the target.
"Stop," he called out after shooting the last arrow.
Xiaojun hit the stop button.
"How long?" Fang Zhen asked.
Xiaojun was flabbergasted. "T-ten... ten point five-two seconds."
Fang Zhen nodded, satisfied.
He held the bow in his left hand, his right hand resting naturally behind his back.
However, between testing his maximum rate of fire and a sudden whim to show off, he had overexerted himself. His right hand was now trembling.
'Hope it doesn't cramp up.'
Xiaojun didn't notice these details; he just stared at Fang Zhen for a long moment.
"Brother Fang, were you on an archery team before?" Xiaojun asked.
"Nope. Just learned through practical experience." Fang Zhen clenched his right hand a few times behind his back until the numb feeling subsided, then spoke with a normal expression.
Next, Fang Zhen tested the electric BB gun.
The gun was quite powerful. Within ten meters, as long as it was fully charged, it could fire a stream of steel BBs and shatter empty beer bottles.
The feel and weight of the handgun were nearly identical to a real firearm, and its capacity was forty rounds.
Fang Zhen tested it, shattering more than ten beer bottles. In terms of feel, the electric BB gun's close-range power was very close to that of the Dragon Gall Crossbow.
Fang Zhen was very satisfied with the new equipment.
The next place he had to enter was a Hard-difficulty dungeon in the Nameless World.
Based on the world's level, the enemies should still be fairly fragile. Using a heavy-duty weapon like a compound crossbow, which could double as a sniper rifle, felt like a waste. Besides, reloading a compound crossbow was too slow.
To specifically deal with fragile but high-damage enemies, who would likely appear in groups, using a compound bow was clearly a wiser choice than a compound crossbow.
For close quarters, the electric BB gun was a great supplement. Its kinetic energy was on par with old-school air guns.
He knew he would eventually have to use real firearms. For now, he'd use the BB gun as a warm-up.
He decided to keep all the equipment.
The rapid-fire compound bow was 6,600 yuan, the regular compound bow was 5,300, various regular and special arrows and Crossbow Arrows were 5,700 yuan, and the electric BB gun was 2,400 yuan. The arrow loader was thrown in for free. Since Xiaojun was just passing through Xiahai on other business, Weilong Outdoor waived the delivery fee.
The total price came to exactly 20,000 yuan.
Fang Zhen paid the money and saw Xiaojun off.
He, however, remained at the factory.
Besides the equipment, Fang Zhen also had many skills that needed testing. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
He was already getting back into the zone, focusing his attention on the upcoming dungeon.
...
「On this day.」
Inside Fang Zhen's home.
Having taken a shower and eaten a nutritious breakfast, Fang Zhen went into his computer room.
Today was the day that Act Three of the Nameless World, 'Fallen Knight,' was officially set to begin.
Over the past few days, he had already taken care of all his real-world affairs.
The sale of the apartment across the hall was complete, and he now held the property deed. The entire seventh floor belonged to him alone.
He had also used this time to hide his peripherals and equipment. He paid extra to have workers open a doorway in a non-load-bearing wall as quickly as possible, connecting his apartment to the one across the hall. He also installed a fingerprint lock on the inside of the door leading to the fire escape.
The seventh floor was now Fang Zhen's private domain, secure and offering complete privacy.
He had taken possession of his new car, which was now parked in his rented spot downstairs.
At his company, He Yilin had already hired new staff and signed their employment contracts. Everything was running smoothly, just waiting for Fang Zhen to assign the next task.
In the real world, Fang Zhen had nothing left to worry about.
During the large blocks of free time he'd had over the past few days, he had been constantly testing his abilities, gaining a deeper understanding and more precise control over his skill set.
At this moment, his entire focus was on the 'Fallen Knight' dungeon he was about to conquer.
As he watched, the time for the 'Fallen Knight' dungeon to officially open arrived.
"The queued dungeon's opening time has been reached.
