My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 110 - 96: Slaughtering the Abnormal Ghost
Fang Zhen was suddenly startled!
Near a fallen horse, a flatbed cart lay sideways, laden with seven or eight bulging burlap sacks. By the cart, a man in his forties—dressed in a grayish-white linen top and light blue pants—was desperately swinging a pitchfork-like weapon to protect a young boy and girl behind him, trying to drive back the monster before them!
Fang Zhen squeezed the handbrake, pulled a pair of tactical binoculars from the side pocket of the backpack on his bike, and raised them to his eyes to observe the monsters.
There were two humanoid monsters. Their bodies were gaunt but massive; if they stood up straight, they would likely be over six feet tall.
The monsters looked human, only they were completely naked and hairless. Their skin was entirely cyan, they had no visible genitalia, and they had no eyes. Where their eyes should have been was a circle of fine black dots.
The monsters' arms were extremely long, roughly the length of a normal person's legs. The shape of their joints was also unusual, allowing them to scuttle across the ground like spiders. They were quite fast and appeared very agile.
Protruding from the backs of the monsters' hands were bones that formed a Bone Saber, like the claws of a wild beast. They looked quite sharp and were as black as Obsidian.
The monsters were attacking the cart about fifty meters ahead. One was crawling on the ground, steadily advancing on the farmer and the two youths. The other was tentatively attacking the injured old horse, looking as if it was about to tear out the animal's intestines.
After getting a clear look, Fang Zhen's eyebrows shot up.
'Abnormal Ghosts?'
'From the looks of it, these are the ones.'
After watching for only a second, Fang Zhen made his decision.
He casually hung the binoculars on the handlebars of his Jue Ying motorcycle, then turned and grabbed the bag containing his Hunting Crossbow.
The Hunting Crossbow was already assembled. As he took it out, he also slung the quiver over his shoulder.
The quiver held his upgraded Crossbow Arrows; it was newly stocked with over twenty Hunting Arrows.
Fang Zhen kicked down the Jue Ying's kickstand, dismounted to the left of the motorcycle, and dropped into a half-crouch, assuming an exceptionally stable firing stance.
Skill: Steady Shot!
As he settled into the stance, a wave of confidence washed over him.
Fang Zhen knew that firing from this position, while maybe not a guaranteed bullseye every time, was at least a sure thing nine times out of ten.
He quickly cocked the Hunting Crossbow and loaded a Hunting Arrow.
At that moment, the farmer was swinging his pitchfork, trying to drive back the misshapen creature, but the gap in strength between him and the Abnormal Ghost was simply too wide.
The Abnormal Ghost only retreated and dodged because of its instinct to avoid injury, not because its combat prowess was inferior to the farmer's.
Suddenly, the Abnormal Ghost feinted a pounce!
The farmer, terrified, shrieked and swung his pitchfork.
But it was just a feint; after testing the farmer's reaction, the Abnormal Ghost backed away.
The farmer had put too much force into his swing and lost his balance.
The cyan Abnormal Ghost seized the opportunity to pounce, knocking the farmer to the ground. It swatted the pitchfork away with its claws and opened its mouth, which was full of sharp teeth. Drool dripped out as it lunged for the farmer's neck.
At that exact moment, Fang Zhen pulled the trigger of his Hunting Crossbow!
WHOOSH!
The Hunting Arrow covered the fifty-plus meters in half a second, striking the Abnormal Ghost square in the chest.
"HOWL!"
The Abnormal Ghost was hit in the right side of its chest. The Hunting Arrow penetrated but didn't pass through, lodging itself in the creature's torso.
It shrieked from the heavy blow and retreated several steps. Crouching low to the ground, it seemed to be scanning for whatever had injured it.
After firing the shot, Fang Zhen's brow furrowed slightly.
'Tough hide,' he thought.
He'd killed so many enemies with the Hunting Crossbow that he'd developed an instinct for it.
Against something with the durability of a Kobold, a Hunting Arrow could pierce straight through bone.
But now, the Hunting Crossbow firing a Hunting Arrow had resulted in the Crossbow Arrow getting stuck in the creature's right chest, unable to pass through.
Clearly, the physical durability of an Abnormal Ghost far surpassed that of a Kobold.
Fang Zhen wasn't particularly surprised.
Ever since entering this Normal World, he had been prepared to face enemies on par with his own strength.
The Abnormal Ghost had no eyes, but it possessed other senses to compensate for its lack of sight.
In just a few moments, the injured Abnormal Ghost seemed to locate Fang Zhen and let out a deep, powerful roar, like that of a bear.
The other Abnormal Ghost nearby abruptly stopped trying to disembowel the old horse. It looked up toward Fang Zhen's position, let out a shriek, and then launched itself toward him, its limbs propelling it forward with the speed of a hundred-meter sprinter.
The Abnormal Ghost with a Hunting Arrow in its chest also abandoned the farmer and started running toward Fang Zhen, wounded as it was.
"Be careful!"
The farmer, who had just escaped the Abnormal Ghost's sharp fangs, was a man of good conscience. Seeing both monsters charge toward Fang Zhen, he ignored the blood covering his own chest, struggled to sit up, and shouted a warning.
Fang Zhen's expression remained unchanged as he skillfully cocked the Hunting Crossbow and loaded another Hunting Arrow.
At the same time, he activated Combat Focus and Precision Intuition.
Instantly, all distracting thoughts vanished from his mind, and he gained an extremely precise grasp of the approaching Abnormal Ghosts' speed.
Precision Intuition, truly worthy of its status as a level 2 skill, now had its abilities fully activated.
Fang Zhen's intuition instantly told him that the uninjured Abnormal Ghost in the lead would be within three meters of him in 7.3 seconds, while the wounded one would reach the same range in 9.2 seconds.
'I can shoot the one in front now. The Hunting Arrow has a seventy percent chance of seriously wounding it, which would delay its approach by at least five seconds. That's enough time to calmly load another arrow and either shoot it again or land another serious blow on the one behind it.'
