My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 715: Dabao Seems to Have a Girlfriend Now!
Sitting in the teahouse, they watched a play while snacking on treats.
Truth be told, although Lin Feng didn’t understand the opera, that didn’t stop him from appreciating the lilting chants and their certain charm. Paired with a sip of tea, the whole experience simply came alive.
Most of the patrons were elderly, with only a few young people scattered about.
While the men enjoyed their leisurely time, the women were out for a lively shopping trip. Some discussed having afternoon tea, others talked about going shopping for new product releases, and some considered going for beauty treatments.
Mrs. Qin naturally wanted to prioritize her in-law’s preferences. "Let’s ask Mrs. Lin what she thinks and see what she enjoys."
"What do you usually do in the afternoons?" she asked Zhang Yuxi.
Zhang Yuxi was candid. "I’m usually busy with work from the Education Bureau, like inspecting schools or visiting rural townships to check on things."
Education in some of Yangcheng’s remote suburbs was lagging, so their main task in recent years had been visiting these townships to ensure the educational work was up to standard. Since becoming a teacher more than twenty years ago, she had never had afternoon tea, and she only went shopping for holidays and festivals. Most of her clothes came from her second child; as long as they weren’t too flashy, they were perfectly fine.
"Oh my, that’s quite tough. It’s not easy being an educator!"
"Exactly! I’ve seen on the news how hard you all work."
Qian Shu, Dai Quan’s wife, came from a scholarly family and naturally viewed Zhang Yuxi through rose-colored glasses.
"In that case, let’s go sit and have some tea. I have some fine tea at my place, along with some excellent books."
Qian Shu didn’t speak much in their social circle, but her status was high. She was a true lady of Jingcheng society, and with both her husband’s family and her own being prestigious and influential, her words carried weight.
No one wanted to slight her, so they all readily agreed to visit her home.
Qian Shu’s home was also a courtyard house, even more elegant than Mrs. Qin’s. The couplets and calligraphy on display were all her own work. Her study alone took up half the house and was filled with numerous authentic masterpieces.
"I’ll brew some tea for you."
Both Qian Shu and Mrs. Qin were gentle souls who spoke softly and moved with unhurried grace. Qian Shu’s movements as she prepared the tea were as smooth as flowing water. While Zhang Yuxi didn’t understand the art of the tea ceremony, she was deeply impressed by the woman’s refined aura.
Sipping tea, chatting, and reading books with the sunlight streaming in, the scene was a picture of peaceful bliss.
Though these ladies were fond of their daily makeup routines, they were not lacking in culture and could certainly hold their own in a discussion about literature. But as they talked, the conversation inevitably circled back to their children. Recalling how Zhang Yuxi knew next to nothing when they’d asked about her own children, the women refrained from asking further.
"Have your two sons started dating?" one of them eventually asked.
With a faint smile, Zhang Yuxi indicated that she didn’t know. "If they were, they would tell me. It doesn’t matter what their partner’s circumstances are, as long as my sons are happy."
One of the other ladies hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Sister Zhang, just take this with a grain of salt and don’t let it trouble you."
"I heard that the young lady from the Cai Family is dating your eldest son."
Zhang Yuxi was puzzled. "The Cai Family? Which Cai Family?"
"The one from the family of diplomats," the lady replied.
Mrs. Qin, Qian Shu, and the others immediately understood.
Zhang Yuxi wasn’t from Jingcheng and was unfamiliar with the Cai Family, but she did know of a prominent diplomat with the surname Cai. Suddenly, an idea struck her.
"Is it Cai Xia?" she asked.
Mrs. Qin smiled faintly. "Yes, it’s her."
The reason Zhang Yuxi knew the name was that Cai Xia’s online presence was immense. She was not only a diplomat but also an interpreter. No matter the occasion, she appeared with exquisite makeup and well-fitting suits. Even her stunningly beautiful face couldn’t outshine her formidable, commanding presence. Someone had even produced a feature on her life story; the world of a top student, her entire journey seemed like a continuous winning streak. In the social circles of Jingcheng, she was a constant topic of conversation.
Mrs. Qin asked the woman, "Where did you hear this news?"
"My daughter told me," she replied. "You know how she loves gossip from our circle, but who knows if it’s true or not."
Another woman chimed in, "If they really are together, that’s wonderful. Both children are so outstanding."
After chatting for nearly two hours, they exchanged contact information and departed.
Once they were alone, Mrs. Qin began to speak about Cai Xia. The information online was only what could be officially verified; what she shared was much less known to the public.
"I’ve met that child, Cai Xia. She’s truly wonderful. I’ve also gone out with her mother, who has a great personality and temperament."
"They only have the one daughter, Cai Xia. Her mother suffered a severe hemorrhage during childbirth and had to have a hysterectomy."
Mrs. Qin had nothing but praise for the Cai family and had even once fancifully entertained the idea of proposing a match. Although the Cai Family was known as a family of diplomats, those in the know understood there was much more to them than that. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Cai Xia was expected to follow in her father’s footsteps, or perhaps go even further.
Zhang Yuxi listened, all the while thinking she would have to ask Big Bao about this when she got back.
That evening, they went to Lin Jie’s place for dinner with Wen Xiaoya’s parents before planning to head back the next day.
Mrs. Qin held Zhang Yuxi’s hand, reluctant to see her go. "You must come visit again soon. Or, when I have time, I’ll come up to see you."
Zhang Yuxi smiled. "Of course. We’ll come for the New Year!"
Mrs. Qin’s face lit up. "You said it! You must come for the New Year to liven things up."
The children had wandered off to play somewhere, so Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi returned to the hotel first to rest, shower, and change their clothes.
"Honey, I have something to tell you when we get back," Zhang Yuxi said mysteriously in the car.
Seeing her secretive expression, Lin Feng laughed. "What is it?"
Zhang Yuxi pursed her lips. "I’ll tell you when we get back."
The moment they got out of the car, Zhang Yuxi couldn’t wait to share the gossip about their son with her husband.
"I heard from one of the ladies today... it seems Big Bao has a girlfriend!"
Lin Feng thought the use of ’seems’ was quite clever!
He asked, "So does he have a girlfriend, or not?"
Zhang Yuxi glared at him. "You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? I only heard rumors, and they aren’t sure either."
Lin Feng grunted in acknowledgment. "Whose daughter is she?"
Zhang Yuxi’s eyes crinkled as she broke into an even bigger smile. "Cai Xia."
Lin Feng savored the name; it sounded vaguely familiar. "Hmm... I think I’ve heard that name. Is she an actress?"
Zhang Yuxi pulled out her phone and showed Lin Feng her entry on an online encyclopedia.
"That’s her!"
Lin Feng wasn’t particularly surprised. In his eyes, all of his children were exceptional. As long as they were happy, it wouldn’t be strange even if they married a princess or a prince. Moreover, with Shao Yang and Qin Jiang setting such sterling examples, it wasn’t at all unexpected that Big Bao would fall for someone like Cai Xia.
"Mrs. Qin spoke very highly of the Cai Family and Cai Xia, so her character must be good."
Lin Feng hummed in agreement. "Our son has excellent judgment. No matter who he likes, as long as he’s happy, I’ll support him."
Seeing his wife’s unbridled joy, Lin Feng chuckled.
"Look how happy you are. It’s not even a sure thing yet."
Zhang Yuxi’s outlook was decidedly optimistic. "But what if it’s true? If you round up, they’re practically a married couple!"
Lin Feng just shook his head.
Sometimes, a woman’s logic could be truly wild!
