My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 703: I’m Growing Up!
The filming was taking place at Hengdian. On the neighboring set, a crew was filming a night scene, and the father-daughter duo looked on curiously.
"Oh no, the child actor isn’t feeling well. We might not be able to shoot today."
"Then what are we supposed to do? We’ve been busy all day just for this scene!"
"I’m out of ideas. Her parents are taking her to the hospital, so there’s no way we can film."
The director was furious, but he couldn’t do anything if the child was unwell. "Go find me someone!"
The assistant was bewildered. "But... how are we supposed to find someone at this hour?"
The director, angry enough to kick someone, exclaimed, "What kind of place is this? Are you telling me there are no actors available?"
But it’s tough to find a child actor at this hour, the assistant thought. You can’t just hire an adult to play a child, can you? Besides, most kids are asleep by now...
"Hurry up and find someone! And the rest of you, start thinking! Get an actor here now!" the director commanded. "It’s just one scene! We’ve prepared for so long; we must find an actor today."
With things as they were, everyone scrambled, either calling their contacts or heading out to search for an actor.
As luck would have it, the first people they saw upon leaving the set were the father and daughter who had been watching the commotion.
"Oh, little girl!"
Xiao Bao blinked, her eyes asking what they wanted.
"Could you do us a favor?" a crew member asked. "Our child actor is unwell and can’t perform. Would you be willing to take her place?"
Whenever Xiao Bao had free time, she would wander over to the adjacent sets to watch the excitement. They were both filming period dramas; one was a palace intrigue, and the other was a fantasy about celestial immortals. She especially loved watching the wirework stunts as the actors flew through the air.
Xiao Bao knew the child actor. She was a cute girl, a little younger than her. Though they were both in the second grade, Xiao Bao was half a head taller, so the girl always called her "Big Sister."
Xiao Bao didn’t mind. It was only one scene, and besides, she was still digesting her dinner.
She was to play the female lead as a child, who has a fleeting encounter with the young male lead. In a flowing white dress, she was meant to look like a fairy descending to earth.
The scene required wirework.
Upon hearing that, Xiao Bao was so excited she could have cried. She was going to play a fairy, fulfilling two of her dreams at once.
Lin Feng was a little worried, fearing his daughter might get injured.
Makeup, costumes...
Last year, Xiao Bao had still been a bit chubby and hadn’t grown much. Since the beginning of the year, however, she’d had a growth spurt. She had slimmed down, her face had become smaller, and she had shot up in height. Now, dressed as a little fairy, she was absolutely stunning.
Her sister Er Bao was famously beautiful, and San Bao was even more ethereally stunning. Compared to them, Xiao Bao’s looks were less striking; she couldn’t quite compare to them at the same age. But dressed up like this, she was genuinely, captivatingly beautiful.
"Wow, you’re so pretty!"
Xiao Bao loved acting in period dramas. She hopped over to Lin Feng. "Daddy, do I look pretty?"
When she wasn’t smiling, she was fine, but her grin made her look like an adorable goofball.
Lin Feng smiled back. "You look beautiful!"
Xiao Bao’s appearance was a blend of both her mother and father, so her beauty wasn’t immediately striking.
She only had a few lines, which was no problem for her. The important thing was to project the ethereal, slightly cold aura of a little fairy. The previous child actor had been studying dance since she was three and was naturally slim and pretty. Even without acting skills, her natural aura was perfect.
Xiao Bao had the acting chops, but her wirework was a bit stiff at first, not quite capturing the fairy’s graceful drift. However, she was a quick learner and a natural-born actress. Within half an hour, she had mastered it.
The director was very satisfied with the final result, and by then, Xiao Bao was getting sleepy.
On the way back, she pouted, "Daddy, I want to lose weight."
Lin Feng paid her no mind. "You’re still growing. What’s there to lose?"
Xiao Bao sighed. "That little girl’s costume was a bit tight on me."
Lin Feng thought she was overthinking it. "Come on, how about Daddy takes you out for a late-night snack?"
Xiao Bao hesitated for a moment, then chirped, "Okay!"
Lin Feng teased her, "Not on a diet anymore?"
Xiao Bao grinned. "I’m still growing!"
...
They arrived at the restaurant.
Even after becoming the richest man, Lin Feng’s life hadn’t seemingly changed much. He still took his daughter to film, took care of her, and helped with her homework. However, the people around him were noticeably more enthusiastic and friendly, as he was now a household name across the country.
"Director Lin, your table is ready. Please, right this way," the owner said.
"That’s not necessary," Lin Feng replied. "We can sit anywhere. Please, go on with your work."
The owner smiled. "We happen to have a private room free. It’s much quieter in there, so you can enjoy your meal in peace."
Unable to refuse his enthusiastic hospitality, Lin Feng and Xiao Bao were led to a large private room that could seat more than ten people. The father and daughter exchanged a look.
The owner then offered to cover their meal, suggesting that if Lin Feng enjoyed the food, he could promote the restaurant for them.
How much could one adult and a child possibly eat? A few thousand yuan at most, maybe ten thousand. Everyone knows that the hotpot chain owned by the Lin Family is a national sensation, and that he’s a great cook himself. If I get his endorsement, our restaurant will make a fortune!
Before Lin Feng had even settled in his seat, the owner had already ordered the staff to bring out all their specialty dishes. "Hurry! Don’t keep Director Lin waiting."
Lin Feng was at a loss for words.
The owner wanted more than just a promotion; he wanted to befriend Lin Feng and potentially talk business.
"Director Lin, you probably don’t know me. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Zhang Yue.
"Our restaurant has been open for seven or eight years. We have customers who travel long distances just to eat here, and they all say it’s delicious.
"I heard you’re a great chef and own your own restaurants, so I was hoping to learn from you and get your opinion on our dishes.
"If you’re satisfied with the taste, we’d be grateful if you’d promote us. Of course, not for free. You and your family will receive a permanent 40% discount whenever you dine with us."
As he spoke, the servers began bringing out the dishes one by one.
"Please, try some..."
Xiao Bao was already starving. She had been unusually hungry recently, making Lin Feng wonder if she had worms or was deficient in some trace element. But after checking her pulse, he found nothing wrong. It was likely just a growth spurt.
"Daddy, I’m going to start eating now," she announced.
Zhang Yue, being a sharp man, knew that Xiao Bao was the treasured favorite of the Lin Family. He quickly smiled and said, "Go ahead and eat! We have desserts, too. I’ll have the kitchen pack some for you to take home."
Xiao Bao said nothing, looking to Lin Feng for permission. She might be young, but she wasn’t naive. She knew there was no such thing as a free lunch and that there had to be a catch.
The food was indeed excellent. The specialty dishes were uniquely crafted and very much to Lin Feng’s taste. In fact, he had driven nearly forty minutes to get here precisely because he had heard how good the restaurant was.
Seeing the look on Lin Feng’s face, Zhang Yue knew he was satisfied. "Here, try this soup," he said quickly.
"The flavor is excellent!" Lin Feng remarked.
Zhang Yue beamed. "Hearing ’excellent’ from Director Lin gives me a real sense of accomplishment."
Lin Feng just smiled and continued eating. Zhang Yue didn’t leave, keeping the conversation going.
"In that case, I’ll be counting on you to promote our restaurant, Director Lin!"
The food truly was superb, so Lin Feng nodded, saying it would be no trouble at all.
