My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 697: Relatives Rush Over Upon Hearing the News
The dishes Qin Jiang made were all simple, home-cooked fare, but they were quite delicious.
At the dinner table, it was evident that Qin Jiang had a good upbringing. He spoke pleasantly, flattering them subtly.
After the meal, Erbao escorted him out.
Lin Feng was inspecting his health tonic wine. He mentioned it was steeped by an old traditional Chinese medicine doctor known to Qin Jiang’s father and was perfect for middle-aged men. He’d had a small glass during dinner and found it quite agreeable; Qin Jiang was very thoughtful.
He turned his head and saw Sibao lying on the sofa playing video games. "Stop playing so many video games! Don’t you care about your eyes anymore?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Sibao sensed the misplaced annoyance in his father’s tone and quickly replied, "Dad, I’m almost done with this round."
Of his two sons, Lin Feng had the most hope for Sibao, so he waited patiently for him to finish before asking, "Weren’t you into a girl from Jingcheng? How is that going?"
Sibao sounded surprised. "Who?"
Lin Feng immediately threw a cushion at him. "What do you mean, ’who’? Wasn’t she one of your trainers? You were even following her posts secretly."
"Oh," Sibao said. "There was no follow-up. It didn’t work out."
The moment he heard that, Lin Feng knew something was wrong. Does someone as carefree as Sibao even know how to be in a relationship?
He quickly sat down beside him. "Why didn’t it work out? Tell me. Is it because you don’t know how to treat people right, and she dumped you?"
Sibao was shocked. To think that in his own father’s eyes, he didn’t know how to act like a decent human being? That was heartbreaking. And what was this about being dumped?
He was instantly displeased. "How could I be the one who got dumped? I’m so handsome and capable. Who would dump me?"
Lin Feng was speechless. "Besides being good-looking, you’re lazy and greedy. Do you even know how to care for someone? Do you know how to be a good boyfriend?" he challenged. "Look at Qin Jiang. How is he any worse than you? He can cook and do everything. What about you?"
"I can cook and clean too!" Sibao retorted, unconvinced. "Besides, he’s pursuing a strong woman like my sister Erbao. If he weren’t capable, how could he possibly handle her? The kind of girl I’m looking for is the complete opposite—someone who knows how to be caring, like my sister Sanbao."
Lin Feng chuckled. "I’m not going to argue with you about that. Just tell me why it didn’t work out."
After a moment’s thought, Sibao said, "We were together for a month, but we broke up because our personalities weren’t compatible. She just wasn’t my type."
As far as Lin Feng knew, Sibao had liked the girl for a long time, so what happened...
He didn’t want to meddle too much in matters of the heart, but he still warned his son, "Listen to me. If you’re going to date someone, do it properly. Don’t be a jerk and hurt her. If I find out you’ve done something scummy, you’ll see how I’ll deal with you."
Sibao immediately sat up straight. "Dad, you need to be clearer. Why would you just assume I’m a player? I’m a good guy, okay?"
Lin Feng just chuckled and walked away.
Pouting indignantly, Sibao went back to his game.
A little while later, Lin Feng returned and stood before him. "In the future, if you’re going to visit someone’s family, let us know. If you need to prepare anything, we can help."
Sibao looked up. "Huh?"
Lin Feng sighed. "I’m just worried you’ll show up empty-handed."
Sibao was speechless. "!!!"
After Lin Feng left, Sibao was playing his game when the meaning suddenly hit him. Dad, you’re taking it too far!
Upstairs, Zhang Yuxi was doing yoga. Although she seemed to age more slowly than others, she still felt she needed to take care of herself. Having a much younger husband gave her a sense of insecurity.
"Honey."
Zhang Yuxi hummed in acknowledgment. "What’s up?"
"What do you think of Qin Jiang?" Lin Feng asked. "From the way he talks, he seems determined to win over our daughter. And from the looks of it, Erbao is no match for him."
Zhang Yuxi smiled. "Isn’t that perfect? With Erbao’s dominant personality, it’s good to have someone who can handle her."
Hearing his wife’s words, Lin Feng knew she was very satisfied with Qin Jiang. "I’ll have someone in Jingcheng look into him and check his character."
"Mmm," Zhang Yuxi agreed. "It looks like Erbao’s love life is falling into place. I hope our other children’s relationships can also blossom."
Lin Feng chuckled and recounted his conversation with Sibao, making Zhang Yuxi laugh as well. Each of their four children was a source of worry in their own way, and Sibao was no exception. His personality was very similar to Xiaobao’s, which was probably why they got along so well. He was already in his twenties but showed no sign of maturity, still acting like a child. His approach to romance also seemed flighty; it was no wonder the couple was worried.
The conversation then shifted to Shao Yang. When measured as a potential son-in-law, each young man had his own merits. Perhaps it was Shao Yang’s family background, or the brilliant aura he exuded, but he seemed to lack a certain sincerity. The issue wasn’t a lack of sincerity in his feelings for Sanbao, but that his social standing was just too high.
Amidst the family’s surprise, the third day of the New Year passed.
Originally, Qin Jiang had said he would leave on the fourth day, but he ended up staying one more day to leave with Dabao.
Early on the morning of the fourth, someone must have spread the news, because a whole clan of relatives came swarming over. Can you imagine? Nearly thirty people showed up, all asking about Erbao’s "boyfriend."
When they heard he hadn’t left yet, Zhou Cuilan said with a beaming smile, "Call him over. We’ll treat him to a meal."
Erbao looked at the assembled crowd and felt intimidated herself. "He seems to be busy today. He might not be able to make it."
Lin Dashan laughed. "What could be so important during the New Year? Tell him to come over. We’ll also help you vet him and see what kind of young man he is."
The others all agreed, deeply invested in the marriage prospects of the quadruplets.
Erbao forced a smile. "I’ll call and ask if he has time."
When she explained the situation, Qin Jiang replied, "I have time. I’ll just pick up some gifts and head over."
Erbao’s eyes widened. "Are you crazy? There are more than thirty relatives here. Aren’t you scared?"
Qin Jiang laughed. "What’s there to be afraid of? You think a small challenge like this will make me back down?"
Back down? What is he even talking about?
Erbao was speechless. "Fine. If you want to come, then come."
After hanging up, Erbao announced to the crowd, "He said he’ll be over in a bit."
When everyone heard the young man was coming, they were ecstatic and started chattering excitedly.
Lin Feng chuckled. "Alright, everyone, try to tone it down a bit when he gets here. We don’t want to scare him away."
Everyone nodded quickly.
They waited and waited. Half an hour later, it wasn’t Qin Jiang who arrived, but someone else.
Shao Yang, dressed in a long, black wool coat, came to pay a visit, followed by a young man who appeared to be his assistant, carrying numerous New Year’s gifts.
Both sides were stunned into silence.
Who is this young man? Is this Qin Jiang? Why is he a foreigner? the relatives wondered.
Okay, calm down, Shao Yang thought to himself. I wasn’t expecting so many people. Just need to calm down.
Shao Yang’s awkwardness was palpable as he took the gifts from his assistant and began handing them out. "Sorry for dropping by unannounced," he said. "I hope I’m not disturbing you all."
