Chapter 652: Chapter 652: Background

As soon as Erbao left, Zhang Yuxi sat on the bed, very pleased with Zhu Lin.

"I just don’t know if Dabao will like her."

After she rattled on for a while, Lin Feng went to wash up on his own.

Zhang Yuxi whined playfully, "Honey, I’m talking to you. Did you hear me?"

Lin Feng came over. "I heard you, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Nothing has even begun to take shape yet."

Zhang Yuxi knew this as well, but Dabao’s attitude gave her more to think about.

From high school through university, she had never seen him bring a single girl home. When it came to dating, he clearly had no interest. Back then, she’d thought he was still young and there was no rush, so she had let him be.

Do all parents have these kinds of thoughts and anxieties? The feeling that once their child graduates from college, starts working, gets married, and has kids, that next stage of their life can finally begin. Now that Dabao was twenty-one, dating for a few years then marrying and having children by twenty-six or twenty-seven seemed like perfect timing. That’s why she wasn’t just focused on Dabao; she was paying extra close attention to the love lives of all her children.

Her children were exceptional, so there was no shortage of suitors. The key was what the children themselves wanted... With time on her hands outside of work, this was the kind of thing she found herself mulling over.

"I understand all that, but..."

Lin Feng smiled. "Let nature take its course. The kids can decide for themselves. They all have high standards and their own ideas, so don’t meddle."

Zhang Yuxi raised her fist playfully. "Don’t meddle? Last time I asked Erbao if there was anyone who had caught her eye, guess what she said?"

Lin Feng casually asked, "What did she say?"

Zhang Yuxi huffed, "She said, ’Men only slow down my ability to make money.’ Can you believe that!"

Lin Feng laughed. "She can do as she pleases. We’ll just be there to approve her choice when the time comes." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Zhang Yuxi said in exasperation, "You can still laugh? I’m not finished. Erbao also said, ’Men are so boring. It’s the pretty girls who are interesting, with their fair skin and beautiful faces.’ Now, what do you think she means by that?"

Lin Feng chuckled. "Whatever she means, it’s definitely not what you’re thinking!"

Once Zhang Yuxi started ranting, there was no stopping her.

"And then there’s Sanbao! I asked how things were going over there and told her it would be fine even if she brought home a foreign boyfriend. Do you know what she said?"

Lin Feng asked curiously, "What?"

Zhang Yuxi took a deep breath. "Sanbao said that something like dating requires careful consideration, and she has to find someone compatible.

"So I asked her, ’Well, have you met anyone compatible?’ And she hits me with, ’Not at the moment. I’ll probably have to wait a few years.’ It’s infuriating!"

Lin Feng didn’t see any problem with that.

"What Sanbao said sounds perfectly fine!"

Zhang Yuxi glared at him. "Sibao is even more hopeless. His ambition is something else."

Lin Feng’s interest was piqued. "So what did he say?"

Zhang Yuxi gave a dry laugh. "He said he wants to become a man of gold medals first, and only then will he think about other things. He even told me he’d consider it after winning two hundred gold medals."

Lin Feng did some quick math. "That will take who knows how long!"

Zhang Yuxi practically shrieked, "The Olympics, honey! The Olympics!"

Lin Feng finally seemed to get the source of his wife’s rage. "Ah... that is rather difficult..."

Zhang Yuxi’s shoulders slumped. She held up four fingers pitifully.

"Honey, four children! Four of them! And in the end, nothing!"

Four children, and her attempts to push them into dating had failed with every single one. No wonder she was so anxious.

Lin Feng stifled a laugh. "The kids only just graduated. Give it a few more years."

Zhang Yuxi sighed. "I don’t know why, but I’m not worried about anything other than their love lives..."

Parents reach a certain stage, and their worries simply change focus. When their children start school, they worry about their studies. During their teenage years, they worry about adolescence. Then they worry about college entrance exams. Once their kids are in college, they just keep worrying... As the saying goes, raising a child for a hundred years means ninety-nine years of worry.

After Zhang Yuxi fell asleep, Lin Feng heard a door close outside. He went out to take a look and saw that Dabao had returned. In the living room, only Sibao was lounging on the sofa, playing a game on his phone.

"Did Zhu Lin go back?"

"Yeah, she went back."

"Then you two should get some rest."

"Dad, aren’t you going to ask anything?"

"I’m not that nosy. Go to sleep."

Dabao straightened his clothes. "Sibao, time to wash up and go to sleep."

Sibao, having just finished a round, put his phone away. He stood up and gave Dabao a cheeky grin. "Bro, that goddess is pretty amazing, huh? Are you interested or not?"

Dabao said nonchalantly, "Not interested. I see her as a friend. I admire her work."

Sibao followed behind Dabao. "Whoa, a girl who can earn Big Brother’s admiration must be someone special."

Dabao laughed. "Can you stop with the weird, sarcastic tone? There’s really nothing between me and her. Stop being so nosy."

Sibao clicked his tongue doubtfully, clearly not convinced.

Dabao ignored him. Whether Sibao believed him or not didn’t matter; there was no point in emphasizing it further.

As they went to wash up, Erbao was on her phone, chatting with Sanbao about Zhu Lin. Erbao was quite impressed. Zhu Lin had a pretty face and a nice figure, and her speech and bearing were different from the other wealthy young ladies she had met. She was confident without being flashy, and she had a great personality.

"Sanbao, what do you think?"

"I don’t have much of an opinion. It doesn’t matter if we like her. If Big Brother likes her, that’s all that matters."

Erbao sent a text to Sibao: "Did you find out anything?"

Sibao: "Nope. Big Brother said she’s a friend and he admires her."

Erbao: "Admires? You mean he’s interested, right?"

Sibao: "I don’t know. His expression didn’t look like he was interested."

Erbao: "Fine then. Sibao, go to sleep. Stop playing on your phone."

On her end, Sanbao was already fast asleep. She was the type of person who thought in very simple terms, with a somewhat pure nature. If she liked something, she liked it; if she didn’t, she didn’t. Her mind was straightforward, not prone to overthinking or convoluted reasoning—much like her father, Lin Feng. She wouldn’t waste time pondering all the possibilities or what-ifs.

Whether or not Zhu Lin became Dabao’s girlfriend all depended on Dabao himself. Even if Dabao were to fall for a girl with average looks and an ordinary background, they would all accept her, simply because she was the one he liked.

Her thinking was direct and simple. So, while Erbao was busy investigating, Sanbao was already sleeping soundly.

Erbao also had her own connections, so she asked an acquaintance to find out about this Zhu Lin. It turned out she was a bona fide academic superstar, knowledgeable in many fields and exceptionally talented in science and engineering. Besides her stellar grades, her family background was astonishingly good. Her grandfather, needless to say, was a titan in his field. Her family had members in both business and politics, all of whom were major figures. She had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth. The entire clan belonged to the highest echelon of Jingcheng’s elite society. Many young men were interested in Zhu Lin, but she had never been in a relationship. Her crush on Dabao, however, was public knowledge.

After Erbao finished reading the file, she sent a copy of it to Sibao, Lin Feng, and Zhang Yuxi.

Lin Feng, who was still awake, couldn’t help but suck in a breath after reading Zhu Lin’s profile. What an incredible family background!

As parents, they naturally wanted a partner for their child who could be supportive of their career. However, the most important thing was for the couple to get along and have common ground.

Lin Feng texted Erbao back, "It’s late, go to sleep. You have a flight to catch tomorrow."

Erbao replied, "Got it, Dad! You get some rest too. Good night! Sending hearts!"
