Chapter 618: Chapter 618: Being a Bit-Part Actor

It was summer vacation. A lot of kids were out of school, and the streets were full of students. At the summer night market, barbecue and beer were naturally essential.

Lin Jie took them to his old favorite barbecue stall. The large group arrived in force and filled all the seats.

Lin Jie said, "Boss, we’ll have one of everything you’ve got on the menu, grilled."

The owner happily agreed and quickly called his family for help.

The brothers, Lin Daan and Lin Dashan, were still quite robust for their age. Along with Zhao Lizhen and Zhou Cuilan, they had started living healthier lifestyles and didn’t eat that kind of food.

They ate from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., by which time Xiaobao had fallen asleep in Sanbao’s arms. After eating their fill, the group returned to the hotel.

「The next day was the hundred-day banquet.」

It was a grand affair. All of the relatives from Wen Xiaoya’s side of the family who could be invited were there. Many influential guests also attended, all of them old, now-retired friends of Wen Xiaoya’s parents.

Mi Fan was dressed in a red onesie. It had a picture of a bowl of rice on the front, with the words "Contentment brings happiness" written below.

Whenever Mi Fan was awake, Xiaobao would toddle over to take a look.

Lin Jiajun joked, "If you want a little brother, go ask your mom and dad to have one for you."

Xiaobao pattered over and told them what he’d said.

Zhang Yuxi put a hand to her forehead, feeling a bit embarrassed. Nowadays, it was quite common for women in their forties to have children, but Zhang Yuxi didn’t want another, and neither did Lin Feng. It took them a good while to talk Xiaobao out of the idea.

For Mi Fan’s hundred-day celebration, Lin Feng gave a gift of 500,000 on behalf of the family. Each of the four older siblings gave 60,000. The baby’s parents themselves gave 280,000! Other relatives gave 10,000 or 20,000, while Lin Rui and Lin Jiajun each gave 60,000.

All this money was saved for Mi Fan, who was now a little tycoon.

Speaking of little tycoons, Xiaobao currently had six or seven million in her bank account. Half of that money had come from her older brothers and sisters. Xiaobao immediately handed the money over to her parents, asking them to save it for her.

She wasn’t interested in money, only in playing. After all, her parents and older siblings would buy her anything she wanted. Moreover, she received loads of red envelopes every birthday, and Lin Feng kept all the money for her.

She was only three years old. When she grew up, she would never have to work or worry about money.

After the banquet, Xiaobao yawned and made plans with her siblings to go to the water park that afternoon. It was a rare occasion for her older siblings to be back, so any request she made had to be granted!

Sanbao picked Xiaobao up. "How about you take a nap with your Third Sister today, okay?"

Xiaobao nodded. "Okay!"

Erbao came over too. "I’m coming as well!"

So much for a nap. They played until just after three o’clock and only went to sleep then, not setting off for the park until four-thirty. The adults said they didn’t want to go, claiming they were too tired. Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi wanted to spend time with their kids, so they went along.

They started in the kids’ zone before moving on to the adult area.

Surrounded by a dozen or so older siblings, Xiaobao seemed to be glowing, and many onlookers were envious enough to cry. Whatever Xiaobao wanted, her siblings scrambled to get it for her. She never even had to say what she wanted to do; they were already rushing to ask her.

Want to walk on her own? Heh, not a chance. There were too many people taking turns carrying her or lifting her high into the air.

The relationships among the quadruplets’ generation of cousins were excellent, and they even had their own group chat. Despite their own achievements, the quadruplets weren’t arrogant or prideful, and they treated their cousins the same as they always had.

The adults amused themselves, while the kids, after leaving the water park, went out shopping. Except for Sanbao, all the other kids knew Taekwondo, and their skills were nothing to scoff at. The adults felt perfectly at ease letting them take Xiaobao out to play.

Xiaobao sat on Sibao’s neck, hugging his head and wrinkling her nose. "Fourth Brother, your head is stinky."

Sibao felt wronged. "It’s not my head that stinks! It’s the shampoo from the water park. It just has a weird smell."

Even so, Xiaobao insisted on being carried by Sibao, except for the occasional break to eat ice cream. She wasn’t allowed to eat things like grilled meats from the street vendors. She was still too little, and that kind of food could easily give her a stomachache.

So there she was, perched on Sibao’s shoulders, being fed ice cream by her eldest brother, Dabao, while Sanbao fanned her, worried she’d get too hot or be bitten by mosquitoes.

"I’m done eating. I want to play that shooting game!"

Her wish was granted.

Xiaobao was too little to play properly, so Sibao helped her, guiding her hands, and they won a plush toy. After a while, the novelty wore off, and Xiaobao wanted to buy something else.

As they walked along, they passed a designer accessory shop, and a crown in the window caught Xiaobao’s eye. Standing outside the display window, she pointed at the crown and declared, "Buy it!"

A saleswoman smiled and said, "That one is priced at 4,800, but with our current promotion, you can take it home for just 4,500." The brand rarely offered significant discounts, and she was afraid they wouldn’t buy it.

Dabao polished off his ice cream in a few bites. "We’ll take it."

"Excellent. I’ll box it up for you right now."

"No need. She’ll wear it now."

Unable to wait, Xiaobao put it on immediately and began to admire herself in the mirror. Her older siblings showered her with compliments, which made Xiaobao even happier. The saleswoman watched the doted-on little girl, thought of her own only daughter, and felt an incredible pang of envy.

Jingcheng was vast and full of wealthy people. This area was full of luxury brand stores, but the teens weren’t interested in them. However, if they saw something that might suit Xiaobao, they would pop into the store for a look.

After they had walked a bit further, a man approached them. "Hello there. I’m Liu Qing, and this is my business card."

He handed a card to each of the older kids. The card identified him as the owner of a film and television company, and the siblings immediately understood. He was undoubtedly scouting them to act; with their good looks, it would be a waste not to be famous.

The older siblings declined.

The man shook his head. "No, no. I’d like to invite this little girl to act."

The siblings frowned.

Xiaobao asked curiously, "Act in what?"

The man explained, "In TV dramas and movies. You’d be on television for everyone to see."

Xiaobao’s eyes widened. "Oh! So that means I’d be an actress?"

The man nodded eagerly. "That’s right! And then your mom, dad, and all your brothers and sisters could see you on TV."

Xiaobao tilted her head to one side. "Do I get paid?"

The man laughed. "You do."

Xiaobao immediately agreed to become a child actress. However, the decision wasn’t hers to make alone. They would have to discuss it at home first. Dabao handled the situation, and after they exchanged contact information with the man, the group parted ways with him.

When they got home, Lin Feng heard what had happened and looked at Xiaobao. He had always respected his children’s choices, whether it was the quadruplets or Xiaobao.

"Do you like the idea, Xiaobao?"

"I do!"

Seeing her innocent, beaming face, Lin Feng reminded her, "But being an actress is very hard work."

"Can you endure hardship?"

Sure enough, the mention of hardship made Xiaobao nervous. "How hard is it?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Let’s just say it’s very, very tough."

"Then... I can give it a try," she said.

This wasn’t something that could be explained in a few words. Seeing how interested his daughter was, Lin Feng hesitated for a moment before saying, "Alright then. Why don’t we give it a try?"

"If I don’t like it, I won’t do it anymore," Xiaobao added.

"But if you do like it, Xiaobao, Daddy hopes you’ll persevere, okay?"

Xiaobao had no objections. "Okay!"

When the quadruplets were younger, talent scouts had come to their door hoping to sign them as child stars, offering generous contracts. When the children got older and received more invitations, Lin Feng had let them make their own choice, but they weren’t interested. One wanted to become a Transformer, and another wanted to be Ultraman. Sanbao was busy with performances and wasn’t interested in acting for TV. Erbao had considered it, but when he heard it would mean leaving home, he gave up on the idea, as his interest wasn’t that strong to begin with.
