Chapter 616: Chapter 616 The Nephew is Born!

Today was the weekend. During their video call that evening, Xiao Bao rolled around on the bed with her phone in her hands.

Watching his precious baby sister, she was so adorable. He really wanted to give her a hug.

Once Xiao Bao was on vacation, they could visit Wen Xiaoya and her child in Jingcheng.

A few months ago, Wen Xiaoya had given birth to a son and named him Mi Fan. Lin Jie had already predicted it would be a boy, but everyone had still held out a glimmer of hope for a little princess. His hundred-day celebration in July would be held after the quads and the other children were on vacation. The little guy looked just like his mother—chubby and very cute. He was up all night, keeping everyone awake, and only slept during the day. As a result, the adults’ schedules were completely turned upside down.

Xiao Bao really liked this little cousin-brother. Finally, there was someone younger than her! She couldn’t wait for the vacation to go to Jingcheng and play with him.

The days passed one by one. In the blink of an eye, it was time for summer vacation. San Bao, the third of the quads, would be off a few days later and would fly to Jingcheng to meet them then.

「Jingcheng.」

Lin Feng used his private plane to fly everyone over. He had already arranged for the hotel, and the celebration banquet was booked for six o’clock tomorrow evening.

The moment Xiao Bao got off the plane, she couldn’t wait to see her little cousin, Mi Fan. She was also very curious and asked Lin Jie, "Why is he named Mi Fan and not Xifan?"

Mi Fan hadn’t had a name at first. Both sets of parents had agreed on the old superstition that a humble name would ensure the child grew up healthy and strong. But they never settled on one, and in the end, Wen Xiaoya had suddenly thought of "Mi Fan" while eating. They started calling him that, and the nickname stuck.

Xiao Bao said, "Oh," and sat in her dad’s lap, looking out the window. "It’s so hot!"

Lin Jie laughed. "We have a water park here. We could go, you know."

When Xiao Bao heard there was something fun to do, she was thrilled.

They went to the hotel first to drop off their things, and then the whole group went to Lin Jie’s home. Lin Jie lived in a two-bedroom apartment, and Wen Xiaoya was a stay-at-home mom looking after Mi Fan.

As soon as they entered, Wen Xiaoya, who had just finished tidying up, greeted them. "Brother, Sister-in-law, you’re here. Dad, Mom, you’re here too." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"I want to see my cousin Mi Fan!" Xiao Bao tilted her little face up and asked, "Where is he?"

Wen Xiaoya put a finger to her lips. "Shh, little Mi Fan is sleeping. Can we be a little quiet when we go see him, okay?"

Xiao Bao nodded and took Wen Xiaoya’s hand as they went to the nursery. Mi Fan was sleeping, snuffling adorably.

Xiao Bao watched him curiously and whispered, "I want to play with my cousin. When will he wake up?"

Wen Xiaoya led Xiao Bao out of the room. "He’ll be up soon. Can we wait for him for a little bit, okay?"

Xiao Bao mumbled an "oh," looking somewhat resigned.

Wen Xiaoya found her some snacks. "Here, have some."

Wen Xiaoya had stayed at a postpartum care center after giving birth. Zhou Cuilan hadn’t been able to help much, but she stayed by her side for the entire month. After the baby’s first month, the confinement nanny came and helped for another half a month. The nanny only left after Wen Xiaoya was able to care for the child independently. Whenever Wen Xiaoya ran into a problem, she would call the confinement nanny, her mother-in-law, or Lin Feng.

Mi Fan was very healthy and had been from the start. Wen Xiaoya and Lin Jie, however, were looking quite exhausted—all because Mi Fan had his days and nights mixed up. He slept soundly during the day and was a terror at night. He was only three months old; they had no idea what they were going to do in the future.

"Brother, Sister-in-law, how did you manage to take care of four children without a nanny?" It wasn’t until she had a child herself that Wen Xiaoya realized how difficult it was. She had immense respect for Lin Feng.

Zhang Yuxi never took credit where it wasn’t due. "I don’t have that kind of ability. It was all thanks to your brother. I wasn’t much help."

Wen Xiaoya’s admiration was boundless. "I’m already overwhelmed with just Mi Fan. I have no idea how you did it, Big Brother."

Lin Feng smiled. "Practice makes perfect. I wasn’t very good at it in the beginning either, but I gradually got the hang of it. If you really can’t manage later on, you can always hire a nanny."

With Lin Jie’s current financial situation, they could afford to keep a nanny indefinitely.

Wen Xiaoya smiled. "We’ll see. If we really can’t handle it, that’s what we’ll have to do."

Xiao Bao played with her toys, feeling utterly bored. Every now and then, she glanced toward the nursery to see if her cousin Mi Fan had woken up.

Suddenly, Wen Xiaoya said, "Ah, I think Mi Fan’s awake." That’s how it is for mothers, as if they have radar installed in their heads. They can hear the slightest sound from their child from a great distance.

Xiao Bao trotted after Wen Xiaoya. Upon entering the room, she saw the baby in the crib stirring. She ran over excitedly and shouted, "Daddy, Mommy, Mi Fan is awake!"

Now that Mi Fan was awake, he needed his diaper changed and his bottom washed. Xiao Bao watched from behind. "He’s so tiny."

Wen Xiaoya smiled. "Yes, he is. One day, Mi Fan will grow to be as big as you, and then as big as your dad."

Xiao Bao asked with a hint of disappointment, "Then when can I play with him?" He’s too little to play with now.

Wen Xiaoya picked up her son. "You’ll have to wait a little longer."

Xiao Bao leaned in, looking at her baby cousin, and asked carefully, "Can I give him a kiss?" He looks so cute!

Wen Xiaoya held her son out. Xiao Bao gave him a quick kiss. "He smells so nice."

Wen Xiaoya remarked with a sigh, "Kids grow up so fast."

Zhang Yuxi felt the same. "Yeah. In the blink of an eye, our oldest are all in college now." She then glanced at her own youngest, who wasn’t that much older than Mi Fan. Zhang Yuxi felt rather embarrassed, as if she were a woman having a child far too late in life...

Lin Feng didn’t understand the reason for his wife’s coy expression. "What’s the matter?"

Zhang Yuxi sighed. Oh well, it wasn’t just her husband’s fault; she shared the responsibility. Besides, having Xiao Bao in their lives brought them so much joy.

Before long, Mi Fan fell asleep again. Xiao Bao, her source of amusement gone, lay on the sofa watching TV listlessly. But with the volume turned down so low, she found it boring.

Lin Jie said with a smile, "Are you bored? How about I take you out to play this afternoon, okay?"

Xiao Bao perked right up. "Yes, please!"

In this generation of the family, Xiao Bao was the youngest. Although her older siblings always played with her, she felt a bit bad about it. It’s only fun playing with kids my own age!

After lunch, Lin Feng took Xiao Bao and the others out to have some fun at the water park.

An Lan had come along this time, but Liu Bo and their two children had not. An Lan’s two sons weren’t as accomplished as the quads; their high school grades were merely acceptable. They got all the necessary tutoring and hired private teachers. The parents hadn’t missed a thing and had done their best. The kids also tried their hardest. With one in middle school and one in high school, they were under a lot of pressure. Whenever An Lan wanted to push her children to work harder, she would see certain news stories and become afraid.

After discussing it with Liu Bo over and over, they decided to just let it be. Whether their sons became wildly successful or not was up to their own destinies. She only hoped her sons would learn a trade so they could support themselves no matter where they went; that would be enough. An Lan’s children were close in age, with one transitioning from middle to high school and the other taking exams. She was so busy she was losing her hair in clumps.

But once she came to terms with the situation, her mindset improved immediately. She suddenly adopted a Zen-like calm! When talking about her kids, her mantra became: "Children will make their own way in life; just let them be." What else could she do? She had done her best.

The main issue was that Lin Feng’s children were just too outstanding. Looking around, the other children in the family were ordinary, just like her son, Cai Cai. It was An Lan who had set her expectations too high.
