My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 109
Isabella, her face streaked with tears, threw herself into Alexander’s arms, clutching his shirt tightly as she sobbed. "Alexander, I thought you didn’t want me anymore! Why did it take you so long to come..."
Alexander paused for a moment, then slowly placed his hand on Isabella’s back, softly comforting her. "Don’t worry, it’s okay..."
Isabella lay in Alexander’s arms, crying uncontrollably.
A perfect match—both beautiful and talented—clinging to each other in their sorrow, wrapped up in a tragic scene.
I stood not far away, watching them with a neutral expression.
Did it hurt? It didn’t feel that way.
Before coming to the hospital, I had already imagined this moment.
I thought I would feel sad, angry.
But now that I saw it for myself, I felt a strange calmness, one I had never known before.
"Your wound is still bleeding. Let the doctor treat it first."
Alexander grabbed Isabella’s injured wrist and looked up, signaling the doctor to approach.
But as soon as the doctor took a step forward, Isabella panicked, shrinking back behind Alexander, shouting, "I don’t want to be bandaged! I don’t want to be bandaged! Stay away from me!"
The doctor looked at Alexander, helpless.
Alexander frowned. "Isabella, your wound needs to be treated, or you could die!"
With tears in her eyes, Isabella looked up at him with deep affection. "If I die in your arms, I’d die happy."
"Don’t say things like that!" Alexander’s face turned cold, and he instinctively glanced at me.
I simply watched them calmly, a faint smile tugging at the corner of my lips. This caused an inexplicable sense of panic in Alexander.
"I’m not saying anything wrong! If I leave you, I’ll die of heartbreak! I can’t eat, sleep, or do anything. When I close my eyes, all I can see is you. If I had another chance, I would never have broken up with you. I know you value your grandfather, and that’s why you had to separate from me. I’d rather die than live with the regret! If I can die in your arms, I’ll be satisfied!" Isabella cried out with each word, her voice full of sorrow and pain.
At this moment, Alexander’s heart was solely with Vivienne. He looked at Isabella with a calm gaze, pausing before responding, "Stop thinking like that. First, let the doctor bandage your wound."
"I don’t want to be bandaged! I don’t want to! Without you, I’d rather die!"
Alexander’s expression darkened. "Fine. If you’re so determined to die, no one can stop you. I won’t waste any more time."
With that, Alexander stood up and turned to leave.
Isabella panicked and hurriedly grabbed his arm, crying, "Alexander, don’t go! Please don’t leave me!"
Alexander stopped and looked at her. "Are you really going to threaten me with death?"
Isabella shook her head repeatedly, wiping away her tears as she spoke. In her panic, bloodstains appeared on her face, making her look even more disheveled.
She spoke in a flurry, "I’m not threatening you. I just... I just don’t want you to leave. If I let them treat my wound, I’m afraid you’ll leave me."
"If you don’t get treated, I’ll leave right now."
"I... I’ll get treated, okay?" Isabella wiped her tears and said, looking pitiful.
Alexander glanced at the doctor.
The doctor stepped forward to treat Isabella’s wound.
Though still frightened, Isabella no longer resisted. She curled up in Alexander’s arms, gripping his arm tightly, unwilling to let go.
Watching them in this tender moment, I silently left the room.
I stood in the hallway, staring out the window, lost in thought as I gazed at the distant horizon.
My guess had been right.
As long as Isabella remained, Alexander and I would never have a peaceful life together.
I didn’t want to live in constant tension anymore.
I was so tired.
Footsteps sounded behind me.
Eliza stood next to me, wearing a smug smile. "Vivienne, did you see that? The bond between CEO Hawthorne and Isabella isn’t something that can just be severed!"
Eliza expected me to argue, but instead, I nodded in agreement. "You’re right."
Wang Yan froze for a moment. "If Vivienne understands, then you should know that persistence isn’t helpful. When it’s time to let go, you should. At least keep some dignity for yourself."
"I think that advice should be directed at Isabella, not me. No matter how deep the feelings, it doesn’t justify meddling in someone else’s marriage. This morning, Sophie thought the news was true, and told me, ‘She won’t be friends with a mistress.’ Seems like she was right, after all. Birds of a feather flock together."
Eliza’s expression stiffened, and she was about to respond when footsteps approached from behind.
Alexander came out of the room and stopped behind me. "Let’s go."
"Is your wound treated?" I turned and asked him.
"Mhm."
A scream echoed from Isabella’s hospital room, one that sounded like she had been startled.
"CEO Hawthorne, aren’t you going to stay with Isabella? She..." Eliza began to speak, but when she met Alexander’s cold gaze, she immediately fell silent.
I glanced at Alexander.
He took my small hand, and together, we walked downstairs.
As soon as we reached the bottom, James quickly stubbed out his cigarette and opened the car door. "Sir, are we heading back to the office?"
"Mhm."
The car pulled out of the hospital and was about to merge onto the main road when, suddenly, James slammed on the brakes.
A group of people had appeared out of nowhere, surrounding the car. They stood in front of the hood, shoving cameras against the windshield and aggressively shouting questions, hoping that Alexander and I would step out for an interview.
These were reporters who had been waiting outside the hospital.
I stared blankly at the chaos outside.
It was such a familiar scene.
But now, instead of just me, it was both Alexander and I caught in this situation.
Alexander’s face darkened, and he turned to James. "Drive forward. I can afford it!"
James’s face turned pale, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he slowly inched the car forward.
While CEO Hawthorne could afford the consequences, James was the one actually driving!
If someone got hurt, they would certainly face a storm of public backlash.
The reporters, who had finally cornered their target, weren’t going to let us go so easily. They kept crowding around the car as it moved forward.
Even with the windows rolled up and no response from us, they pushed their microphones closer, firing questions one after another.
"Mr. Alexander, Miss Vivienne, could you come out for an interview?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Mr. Alexander, what do you think about the rumors this morning?"
"What is your relationship with Miss Vivienne?"
"..."
The traffic around the hospital was heavy, with honking horns from the cars behind us.
Hospital security soon arrived to maintain order.
James slowly moved the car forward, and after a while, he managed to carve a path through the crowd. He slammed the accelerator and sped away.
The reporters weren’t brave enough to physically block the car, knowing that even if they got injured and filed claims, they couldn’t afford to go up against Vanguard Global Enterprises’ legal team. A few years of dragging things out would be pointless. They could make some noise, but it wouldn’t have any significant impact on Vanguard Global Enterprises’ stock. Business moguls far more outrageous than Alexander existed, and this kind of gossip meant little. Deals would continue as usual.
On the other hand, the reporters themselves might end up as the targets, suffering in silence with no help.
...
After we had driven a distance from the hospital, Alexander’s face remained icy.
When we arrived, everything had been calm, but now, after such a short time, this group of reporters had appeared...
James let out a quiet sigh.
His job was safe.
Suddenly, Alexander’s phone rang.
He pulled the phone from his suit pocket, paused for a moment, then pressed the button to end the call and shoved the phone back into his pocket.
I glanced at him. "Why didn’t you answer?"
"Spam call."
I didn’t say anything.
A few minutes later, another message alert sounded.
But Alexander didn’t move, showing no interest in looking at it.
I could roughly guess it was probably another call from Eliza or Isabella.
The car entered the underground parking lot of Vanguard Global Enterprises and stopped right in front of the elevator.
Alexander suddenly spoke, "I have something to take care of. You go up first."
I paused with my hand on the car door before opening it. "Oh."
I closed the car door behind me, and the car slowly pulled away.
The "something to take care of" he mentioned must be going to see Isabella, right?
He clearly couldn’t let go of her but still tried to put on an act in front of me. Why not just stay at the hospital?
