Chapter 266: A Mother’s Strength

(Arata)

Peace enveloped me as I stepped out of the car. Mom was already there, waiting.

We hugged and cried together and then she followed me to my room.

Her presence was soothing, filling me with her peace.

I knew of her scars, but I hadn’t asked her about them as an adult.

As a child, I must have.

For the first time, she revealed to me what the story behind her scars was.

Deep inside, I knew that abusive bastard must have hurt her, and she confirmed it.

I knew I had to ask her about him. The truth which had almost destroyed my life. I needed to know.

Mom stiffened at my question. A hardness descended on her face while her eyes glossed over with a forlorn look.

I understood she was lost somewhere in her disturbing past and I hated putting her through this.

"We will talk about it soon, Arata, in the presence of your father. Not right now. You need peace for now." She gave another squeeze to my hand.

I had to respect my mother’s wishes but it didn’t mean I was letting go of this topic. I would find out what went down between them.

"I will wait." Getting up, I took off my coat and then my hands paused on the cap. I didn’t want to take it off and see myself in the mirror.

Mom got up and held my hand, gently nudging me towards the vanity mirror in my room.

"You can do it, Arata. I know it isn’t easy but you are my daughter. Proud and strong." She stood me in front of the mirror and stayed behind me, holding my shoulders.

"You are beautiful in every way. Take off your cap whenever you are ready. No one is going to force or push you."

I snatched in a deep breath and my eyes found myself in the mirror.

Fading scars and bruises stared back. They didn’t horrify me though. I had stood against a man who had tried to destroy me.

I was a warrior, I was a phoenix, like Karsten loved to say.

Quietly reaching towards my head, I grabbed the cap and took it off.

Haphazardly cut hair, some cut so near my skin that I could see my scalp while others longer to fall above eyes.

But either way, it was a disaster to look at, and my heart ached at the sight.

Mom’s grip tightened on my shoulders. She held me, providing me with her energy, with her love and compassion.

"You are gorgeous..never let a man break you. He means nothing, he is nothing. Only you matter." Mom determinedly leaned forward and placed a kiss on my head.

I closed my eyes, wrapping my head against this reality, which I knew but had witnessed for the first time.

But Mom was right. Ranold was nothing. He was a spec of dust for me who wished nothing but pain for others. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"I know, Mom...and I am sorry. I kept everything from you guys. I thought I could handle it alone and didn’t want my problems to affect you and Baba. I won’t be able to live with myself if something happens to you guys because of me," I lamented and she shook her head.

"We are family, Ara...we laugh together, and we cry together, too. I want you to trust us enough to share your problems with us and not hide them. I know you worry about your Baba because of his health but you can always come to me."

Mom had always been so very understanding and I didn’t get that vibe of disappointment from her.

I did that from Baba but not Mom.

I hung my head low and quietly said. "I am pregnant, Mom. I slept with him so many times and I don’t even regret it. He...he has this charisma, his magnetism."

Mom slowly turned me from my shoulders and firmly said. "Look at me." I upped my gaze and found myself staring into her warm green oceans.

"Do you know how your Dad and I really met?"

I hesitated before saying.

"You started working for him as his secretary, and from there, you guys grew."

But she just smiled at my answer and shook her head.

"No, we didn’t. I found Doran cheating on me with Karen, Ranold’s mom. We were engaged at that time," she began. "To get even, I went to The Mirage with your Aunt Huria, and she arranged for Kakashi Hatake in person to comfort me. That was your father." The nostalgic memory had brightened the smile on her face.

"He comforted me all night long, you know in more than one way." Her cheeks deepened with a red hue and my hands flew to my mouth in shock.

"God, Mom...you had a one-night stand with Baba..." I whispered, my eyes widening with shock and she let out a naughty laugh.

"I surely did and I think your Aunt Huria will enjoy telling you the rest of the story. It will keep you entertained, so come."

She offered me her hand and I gladly took it. Grabbing my cap I put it on. I wasn’t ready to face Grandma like that. Baba had said she didn’t know and we all agreed on keeping it like that.

Guiding me downstairs, I was met with the aroma of home food. My stomach instantly rumbled from the smell of rice and chicken.

"Arata, my child. You are here," Grandma Meena’s voice pulled me towards her and I rushed to meet her in the living room.

She seemed so fragile sitting near the fireplace, wrapped up in her blanket.

"Grandma, how are you?" I hugged her and thanked God that Grandma didn’t have glasses on, my injuries would go unnoticed.

"I am good, my child. My heart has eased, now that you are here."

Everyone else was sitting around her talking.

"I will be staying now. I missed you." I placed a kiss on her cheek and she smiled, her wrinkled skin still seemed soft.

"We missed you too. Go have dinner and then all of us will sit and talk."

"Won’t you join us?" I asked.

"I already ate, had to take medicine." She adjusted her blanket on her legs and I nodded.

Aunt Huria wrapped her arm around me and led me towards the dining room.

"I want you to tell me the story of Mom and Baba and how you introduced them. Don’t leave anything out."

She paused at my words, shock mingled with mischief on her face as she mischievously said.

"Don’t worry. I won’t."
