My Beloved Super Fierce Wife-Chapter 89: Set
Chapter 89: Set 89
Li Xiuli stepped forward and said, "Auntie, I am Meng Shichang’s second sister-in-law. He mentioned you have a house for rent, and I’ve brought my daughter to have a look."
"Oh, it’s Little Meng’s second sister-in-law and niece, please come in."
The elderly lady opened the door and let them in.
Lin Tang quickly surveyed the courtyard.
Immediately to the right of the entrance was a room, and to the left was the toilet.
Directly ahead to the right was the kitchen, and to the left was another room.
On the left side, there was also a small vegetable garden.
The firewood and objects in the courtyard were neatly arranged.
One could tell at a glance that the homeowners were meticulous in their daily lives.
As soon as they entered the courtyard, the old lady called out, "Old man, hurry out, the tenant Little Meng recommended has arrived."
No sooner had she finished speaking than an energetic old man came out behind the door curtain.
The old man was holding a radio in his hand.
"Hello there!" the old man said with a gentle smile.
Li Xiuli gave a hearty smile, "...and hello to you, sir."
The old lady came out of the kitchen with water, and seeing Lin Tang and her mother still in the courtyard,
she muttered under her breath, "Why don’t you invite the guests inside, always fiddling with that old radio of yours."
Then she called Li Xiuli and Lin Tang into the house.
"Don’t mind that old show-off, come inside and have a seat, and let’s talk."
When the old man saw everyone had gone inside,
he followed without changing his expression.
The old lady had Li Xiuli and Lin Tang sit down and got straight to the point.
"Little Meng must have told you the situation.
We, the old couple, are retired now and planning to move to the Provincial City to be with our son.
Since the house is going to be empty, we thought of renting it out.
The house is a bit old, but it has a courtyard, a kitchen, two rooms, and a separate toilet.
I won’t say much, but it’s certainly more convenient than living in those apartment buildings.
If you think it’s good, I’ll rent it to you.
We trust someone recommended by Little Meng."
Li Xiuli thought the house was quite nice.
Separate entrance, convenient.
And no need to worry about her daughter being bullied by those disdainful neighbors.
"Auntie, can the rent be a little cheaper?"
Two yuan a month is not insignificant.
It’s not easy for my daughter to earn money; we have to spend it carefully."
The old lady was taken aback and said, "Isn’t the rent I’m asking for cheap enough?"
"For that apartment building, it’s one yuan for just one room.
You see, my house is clean and spacious, two yuan isn’t too much.
But alright, seeing as you’re related to Little Meng, I’ll lower it by twenty cents.
One yuan and eighty cents a month, how does that sound?"
Li Xiuli’s face lit up with joy, "Okay, then thank you, Auntie."
Living expenses in the city are high, saving a bit is still saving.
The old lady waved her hand.
"No need for thanks, we’re also reassured renting to someone introduced by a friend."
Li Xiuli said with a smile, "My daughter is sensible and won’t wreck your house, you can rest assured.
It’s just that my daughter starts work at the factory the day after tomorrow, can we move in today or tomorrow?"
The old lady’s brow furrowed slightly.
"Today or tomorrow?"
"Isn’t that a bit too rushed? We haven’t got our things in order yet; it’ll take us a few days to vacate the house."
Upon hearing this, Li Xiuli’s face also showed a hint of distress.
What to do now?
Lin Tang looked at the old lady and asked, "Grandma, I really want to rent your house.
Could you perhaps make one room available for me to move into first in the next couple of days?
I’ll pay the rent as usual, would that be okay?"
This house was only a ten-minute walk from the Textile Factory.
And it was a rare find, a house with a private courtyard.
If they missed it, they might not find another that suited their needs as well.
Before the old lady could respond, the old man spoke up.
"Sure, why not? It’s just one room; we can have it ready for you today."
Lin Tang’s eyes lit up.
"Thank you, grandpa; thank you, grandma!"
Seeing the silver lining, Li Xiuli also breathed a sigh of relief.
"Then I’ll have to trouble you both."
The old lady smiled and said, "What trouble is there? We have to clean up sooner or later anyway. Your daughter is really clever."
Next, Lin Tang wrote out a rental agreement by hand.
Both parties signed their names, and each kept a copy.
Two months’ rent was also paid.
Lin Tang and Li Xiuli then left.
Li Xiuli: "Tangtang, do you have anything else to do? If not, let’s go back. We still need to prepare things at home."
"I want to go to the supply and marketing cooperative. The moisturizing cream is ready; I’ll deliver it to Xiaoyun," Lin Tang said.
"Alright, Mom will go with you."
"Okay."
Early in the morning, the supply and marketing cooperative was bustling with people.
As soon as it opened, people surged in.
Lin Tang hadn’t seen such a frenzied scene in a long time.
She had seen it quite often back in high school.
"Oh dear, so many people have squeezed inside. Let’s wait outside the door for a bit and go in later," Li Xiuli said.
"Sure," Lin Tang nodded. "Mom, are you hungry? If you are, I can buy a couple of buns from the restaurant?"
Li Xiuli quickly shook her head, "I’m not hungry, are you?"
"If you’re hungry, go get a bun for yourself. Don’t buy one for me, it’s a waste of money."
A bun cost six cents.
It wasn’t cheap.
Lin Tang could tell her mother was full of refusal.
"Then never mind, I won’t eat either. It’ll be lunchtime by the time we get home."
Li Xiuli touched her daughter’s forehead and sighed inwardly.
She felt Tangtang was being wronged.
"Hang in there a little longer. The crowd at the supply and marketing cooperative will die down soon, and after we finish up, we can go home.
By the time we get there your sister-in-law should have the meal ready, just in time for lunch."
Lin Tang knew that her mother, always looking to save money, never bought food outside.
It was a common affliction among those who had suffered great hardships.
She felt nothing but sympathy.
Lin Tang unwrapped a milk candy and popped it directly into her mother’s mouth.
"Mom, have some candy."
Before Li Xiuli could react, there was already a candy in her mouth.
She paused for a moment, then smiled.
The wrinkles on her face softened.
The sorrows from years of hardship seemed to have faded a great deal.
The two waited for about twenty more minutes.
The crowd that had flooded into the supply and marketing cooperative began to trickle out.
When most people had left, Lin Tang finally took her mother inside.
Fang Xiaoyun had been bustling around all morning, her whole body ached.
Now, she was sitting in front of the counter, massaging her arms.
"Xiaoyun," Lin Tang called out.
Hearing the voice, Fang Xiaoyun looked up.
Seeing her friend, her eyes instantly brightened.
"Tangtang, you’re here."
She quickly greeted Li Xiuli, who was next to Lin Tang. "Auntie, you’re here too."
They had been visiting the Lin Family at school every week since middle school,
so she was very familiar with Lin Tang’s family.
Li Xiuli looked at the young girl before her, almost unable to recognize her.
The change was just too drastic.
"Xiaoyun, you’ve become more and more spirited after starting work.
By the way, thanks for that hot water bottle Tangtang brought back last time."
Fang Xiaoyun blushed at the compliment and said:
"I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for Tangtang. It’s just a hot water bottle, and Tangtang did pay for it, Auntie, there’s no need to be so courteous."
Li Xiuli laughed, "What ’thanks to Tangtang,’ it’s your own hard work.
Just like Tangtang says, hardworking people should not be let down, I think so too."
