Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Fatty Who Cried Himself to 200 kg (One More Chapter Added)
Ning Xinrou and Zhou Mei followed Granny out of the kitchen.
Upon hearing Lin Qingshan’s words, Ning Xinrou looked at Lin Tang with eyes full of gratitude.
She owed her younger sister-in-law another great favor.
As the eldest son of the family, Qingshan had a particular interest in the three piglets in the backyard.
He would occasionally talk in his sleep, hoping the piglets would grow up healthy and not fall ill.
Now, with the pig-raising booklet his sister had given him, he could probably sleep soundly at night.
"Thank you so much, Tangtang," Ning Xinrou expressed her gratitude.
She glanced at the thick booklet in Lin Qingshan’s hand, knowing it couldn’t have been completed in just a day or two.
She had no idea how long her sister-in-law had spent on it.
Lin Tang didn’t think much of it.
Writing quickly, she would apply some ointment to her wrists and fingers after finishing.
Though it seemed troublesome, it wasn’t really tiring.
"It’s no trouble! I write fast and it didn’t take me many days," she said.
Zhou Mei disliked reading; the sight of densely packed characters on a page gave her a throbbing headache.
To her, reading was the most tiresome task in the world.
Yet, seeing her elder sister-in-law’s happy demeanor, Zhou Mei keenly sensed there was something special about that booklet.
Her gaze flickered, and she drifted over to Lin Tang’s side like a wandering spirit.
"Tangtang," she called out, gazing eagerly at Lin Tang with a flattering expression.
Lin Tang raised an eyebrow and asked leisurely, "Second sister-in-law, do you have something to say?"
"You’re so good to your brothers," Zhou Mei started with a compliment.
Then, she shifted her tone.
"Don’t forget about your second brother. He might not say much, but he always has you in his heart."
In some situations, Zhou Mei was quite aware of circumstances.
At that moment, she only mentioned Lin Qingshui, without referring to herself at all.
Lin Tang nodded.
"I understand, all three brothers have the same place in my heart, you can be assured, second sister-in-law," she replied.
Zhou Mei seized the opportunity to press her luck, hoping to take it a bit further with another question.
Lin Qingshui walked over, squeezed her aside, and stood between them.
He glanced at his silly wife with a ghost of a smile.
Acting up again? Not satisfied with the bargains you’ve got?
Lin Qingshui glanced at Zhou Mei expressionlessly and turned towards Lin Tang with a gentle look.
"Sister, don’t listen to the nonsense of your second sister-in-law. There’s no shame in hard work; I am proud to earn my work points in the fields," he said.
Tangtang was still a young girl.
She should not be burdened with all sorts of pressures.
Lin Tang smiled and reassured, "Second sister-in-law didn’t say much, and I’m well aware of other matters—second brother need not worry."
She cared about her brothers at home.
Given the chance, she planned to arrange things for all of them.
"Don’t take everything on yourself; just focus on your work," Lin Qingshui urged her again.
Lin Tang obediently nodded and, not one to argue, she agreed, "Mhm, mhm."
Li Xiuli looked at the harmonious scene before her, her face beaming with smiles.
Her children were all good.
"Alright, no more chit-chat, hurry up and wash your hands! Qingshan, you stop looking at that for now and come eat," she said.
Goudan and the other youngsters had been hungry for a while, but they hadn’t made a fuss seeing the adults talking.
When they heard Granny mention it was time to eat, they immediately perked up.
"Oh, oh, it’s time to eat!" they cheered excitedly and ran to help in the kitchen.
-
The next early morning.
Li Xiuli woke up at dawn, a rare occasion where she prepared breakfast.
The family ate breakfast with warm bellies and left home.
It was also about time to start work, so they thought of walking Lin Tang to the village entrance on the way.
The members of the Lin Family’s second branch were all in attendance, as if seeing Lin Tang off to university in the Provincial City.
It felt especially ceremonial.
At the entrance of the village.
Li Xiuli watched Lin Qingmu, laden with large and small packages, and instructed him carefully:
"Qingmu, make sure Tangtang is settled before you come back.
Tangtang doesn’t like dust falling from the walls. I got some newspapers from your uncle,
they’re in the bundle you’re carrying by hand, don’t forget to paper the walls for your sister.
Your sister loves cleanliness; help her clean up the house inside and out.
When making the bed, shake the mattress firmly, smooth it out, and tidy up the corners.
Check what Tangtang is missing when you’re there, and next time you go to the county,
bring those items for your sister. Oh, also, pay extra attention to the doors and windows..."
She instructed him with meticulous detail, her heart heavy with worry.
But with so many mouths to feed at home, it was fine for one person to take a leave.
If both of them stopped working, it would be too wasteful.
Work points are like food!
Through sheer persistence, and beating out his older brothers, Lin Qingmu won the task of taking Lin Tang to the county.
The things he needed to bring had been prepared last night.
Right now, they were all on his back.
Hearing his mother’s words, Lin Qingmu scratched his head and said, "Mom, don’t worry, I promise to take care of everything."
Wasn’t it him who made his sister’s high school bed?
Li Xiuli nodded, no longer looking at him but instead gazing at Lin Tang with reluctance.
She straightened the collar of her clothing.
"Tangtang, take good care of yourself, don’t make mom worry."
She had a thousand words to say, yet all that came out was this one sentence.
When children leave home, as parents, all they want is for them to be well.
As for anything else, be it money or prospects, nothing is more important than their children’s health.
Lin Tang’s eyes were slightly warm. "Mom, you and dad also take good care of yourselves. I’ll come back whenever I have time."
She didn’t say for her parents to visit her; she knew they would hate to miss out on work points.
Li Xiuli felt a profound appreciation for her daughter’s concern and nodded.
Lin Qingshan stepped forward, tousling Lin Tang’s hair the way he did when they were younger.
"Tangtang is about to start a new life. You should be happy.
From now on, you’ll walk your own path. Your big brother will also work hard, hoping to stand up for you one day.
Don’t worry about home. You have me and your second and third brothers.
We’ll take good care of mom and dad. Just be at ease."
Their sister was always so thoughtful, always wanting to bear the burdens herself, which sometimes left him at a loss for words.
"Mm-hmm," Lin Tang obediently responded with a sound, "I’m relieved with my brothers here."
After Lin Qingshan spoke, Ning Xinrou stepped forward.
She handed Lin Tang a small package, speaking gently, "Tangtang, your sister-in-law doesn’t have anything special to give you.
The contents of the package are what I’ve made myself. Open it when you are alone."
The last sentence was whispered into Lin Tang’s ear.
She had made a set of underwear and several pairs of socks by hand.
These items were meant for her younger sister-in-law long ago, but Qingshan, out of concern for her, limited her sewing time.
Rushing to finish, she managed to complete them only in the latter half of last night.
Lin Tang nodded, placing it into the bag she carried on her back.
"Thank you, sister-in-law."
Ning Xinrou smiled and then stood beside Lin Qingshan.
Zhou Mei, seeing that the sister-in-law had given a gift, felt a twinge of annoyance flash through her eyes.
Ah, the gift had to be given away no matter what.
It hurt her.
Clenching the small paper packet in her hand, Zhou Mei felt her heart ache.
My dried sweet potatoes, wuwuwu...
Crying inwardly like a two hundred pound fatty, Zhou Mei strove to keep a straight face as she approached Lin Tang.
"Tangtang, these are my saved dried sweet potatoes. Take them for a snack."
As she spoke, her heart was bleeding drop by drop.
Usually, it was she who snatched other people’s things. This was the first time she was giving up so much.
