My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 210: Little Tour
Lena led Raelynn down the sleek, quiet hallway, her heels clicking softly against the polished marble floor. The entire floor had a hushed, almost eerie stillness to it, making their footsteps sound louder than they actually were. Raelynn glanced around, noting how empty it was. The corridor stretched long and pristine, bathed in the soft glow from sunlight. It was nothing like the bustling lower floors she had passed earlier.
"This floor is different from the others," Raelynn mused, her voice naturally lowering as if she didn’t want to disturb the silence.
Lena nodded, keeping a polite but professional expression. "That’s because this floor is reserved solely for Mr. Vaelorian and Mr. Anderson." She gestured toward the long stretch of space. "As you can see, no other departments work here. Just the two of them. Well, technically, it’s his—" She pointed toward the end of the corridor, where the most imposing office sat, its frosted glass doors shut. "Mr. Vaelorian’s office. Mr. Anderson works just outside of it."
Sure enough, beside the main office was a sleek, minimalistic desk, neatly organized with only a laptop, a few documents, and a cup of what was most likely Kade’s ever-present black coffee.
"Mr. Anderson, you mean Kade?" Raelynn asked, glancing at the empty desk.
Lena nodded. "Yes, Mr. Anderson. He’s Mr. Vaelorian’s right-hand man, basically does everything that isn’t worth Mr. Vaelorian’s direct attention." She gave a small smile. "Or things Mr. Vaelorian doesn’t have the patience for."
Raelynn chuckled at that, easily picturing it.
Raelynn hummed in response, though her mind was elsewhere. It wasn’t that she didn’t know who Kade was—of course, she did. But this was the first time she had ever heard his last name.
Lena continued, gesturing toward another area just off to the side. "Over there is the private break room. It’s rarely used by anyone but Mr. Anderson when he needs a moment away from his desk." She turned to Raelynn. "I assume you’ve never been in there?"
Raelynn shook her head. "No. Didn’t even know it existed."
Lena smiled. "I figured. The entire layout of this floor is built for privacy. Most employees don’t even come up here unless they have a direct reason to meet with Mr. Vaelorian or Mr. Anderson."
Raelynn took it all in, nodding along as Lena explained everything in detail. "You sure know a lot," she remarked, glancing at the intern with mild amusement.
Lena straightened slightly, her hands clasped in front of her. "Of course. I may be an intern, but I intend to work here permanently. Knowing how things work is important."
Raelynn hummed in understanding. "That makes sense."
They continued walking at a leisurely pace, with Lena giving Raelynn a small history lesson about the company. She talked about its origins, how it grew into a powerhouse under Elion’s leadership, and a few interesting facts she had learned during her time here. Raelynn listened, nodding here and there, though she wasn’t sure how much she would actually remember.
Meanwhile, back at Elion’s office, he stepped inside with the expectation of finding Raelynn sitting in one of the chairs, maybe scrolling through her phone or impatiently waiting for him. Instead, the office was… empty.
His sharp gaze flickered around the room, scanning for any sign of her. His desk remained untouched, the private lounge area showed no indication of someone having been there, and the air felt just as still as when he had left it.
His brows furrowed. Where did she go?
He strode toward the private room, pushing the door open, but again—nothing.
Just as he was about to check the hallway, the office door swung open, and Kade strolled in.
Kade took one look at Elion standing there, alone in the office, and immediately let out a sigh. "Well, I guess I was wrong."
Elion turned to him, irritation flashing in his eyes. "Wrong about what?"
Kade smirked, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed. "I said she wouldn’t run away, but… doesn’t seem like she’s here."
Elion ignored the jab and moved toward the door, fully intending to go search for her, but before he could step out, the door swung open once more.
Raelynn walked in with Lena at her side, mid-conversation.
"And that’s why—" Lena started, but stopped short as soon as she noticed both Elion and Kade already in the room.
Raelynn, unfazed, looked at Elion and smiled. "Oh, Elion. You’re done with your meeting."
Elion exhaled, some of the tension in his shoulders easing as he took in the sight of her. "Yeah." He studied her for a moment before asking, "Where have you been?"
Raelynn gestured toward Lena. "Lena was kind enough to show me around this floor so I wouldn’t get bored while waiting."
Elion’s gaze shifted to Lena, his expression unreadable. "And did you get approval for this… impromptu tour?"
Lena stiffened slightly but kept her composure. "I thought it would be alright, Mr. Vaelorian" she answered carefully, maintaining her professional tone.
There was a brief pause before Kade chuckled. "Well, at least now Raelynn won’t be falling asleep in your office."
Raelynn huffed, crossing her arms. "I did fall asleep for a while before she showed up."
Elion sighed, shaking his head, though a faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. His gaze flicked back to Lena. "Thanks for keeping her entertained."
Lena looked surprised at the gratitude but nodded. "Of course, sir."
Elion then turned back to Raelynn, his tone softer now. "Everything fine?"
Raelynn nodded. "Yeah. Nothing wrong."
Satisfied, Elion looked at Lena again. "You can go back to work now."
Lena nodded but before she could leave, Raelynn stopped her with a light touch on her arm.
"Thanks for keeping me company," Raelynn said sincerely. "It was nice getting to know you."
Lena blinked, caught off guard by the casual kindness, before offering a small smile. "Likewise."
With that, Lena excused herself, closing the door behind her as she left.
Elion’s gaze lingered on Raelynn for a moment before he casually glanced at the clock. "It’s almost lunchtime." He tilted his head slightly. "Why don’t we get lunch?"
Raelynn’s lips curled into a smile. "Sure."
It was a good day so far.
Let’s stay this way.
