My Arms Can Turn into Blades-Chapter 116 - 109: Kunlun’s Rejection
"Yes."
Xia Yue smiled and approached, "You look quite spirited."
"Don’t flatter me."
The elderly man grinned, the wrinkles on his face relaxed, "What wind brought you here? I haven’t seen you in a while... By the way, no fighting, my old bones can’t take it."
"Don’t assume I’m here to fight just because you see me coming."
Xia Yue shook his head and explained, "No wind brought me here; it was you folks who summoned me. I’m here as a guest this time."
"A guest?"
The elderly man was taken aback.
Xia Yue waved to Chen Lusi.
Chen Lusi walked over.
"This is Chen Lusi, a new member of our team."
Xia Yue introduced Chen Lusi briefly, then looked at Chen Lusi and introduced, "This is Chai Pool, the Kunlun gatekeeper, quite formidable."
Gatekeeper...
Chen Lusi nodded to the elderly man.
"Gatekeeper, more like a gate-dog."
The elderly man stared at Chen Lusi, made a jest of himself, then turned back to Xia Yue, hesitated for a moment, and asked, "Ah Yue, what’s the matter this time? I hope it’s not another incident like the one with that young girl. If you mess up again, these old bones will truly fall apart..."
"That depends on what Kunlun says."
Xia Yue shrugged, "I told you when I took the young girl last time, don’t count on anyone being the savior... The young girl couldn’t do it, and neither can our new member.
This time I’m bringing him over to investigate the Authority Ability. Kunlun agreed, but if they go back on their word and say something like ’this person is special and can’t be taken,’ then I’ll have to turn hostile.
If you’re worried about your old bones falling apart, then pretend you didn’t see anything."
"Oh dear, why is your temper still like this."
The elderly man sighed with a bit of exasperation, "Can’t things be discussed calmly? You were like this in your teens, and at thirty-something, you’re still the same."
Xia Yue casually replied, "I guess this is called consistency."
The elderly man was speechless, stood sighing for a while, then said, "So what is this young man’s Authority Ability? Is it as sensitive as that young girl’s?"
"No."
Xia Yue gave a negative answer.
The elderly man breathed a sigh of relief, "That’s good..." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Alright, give me the coin, we’ll chat another time. Tomorrow I have to head to Celestial Strategy Mansion."
Xia Yue felt the pleasantries were about done.
The elderly man hesitated for a moment, then reached into his pocket and pulled out two silvery coins, handing them over.
Xia Yue took the coins and tossed one to Chen Lusi.
Chen Lusi reached out to catch it and took a closer look.
The coin was small and exquisite, seemingly made of silver, oxidized to gray, with one side blank and a drawing of a mountain range on the other.
"Alright, see you next time."
Xia Yue tossed the coin in his hand, then led Chen Lusi to Nachi Spring, gently throwing the coin into the water.
Plop—
The coin hit the water, creating a splash.
Xia Yue vanished before their eyes.
Chen Lusi glanced at his side, imitating Xia Yue by tossing the coin.
Then.
His figure disappeared as well.
The elderly man stood afar, waited for the two to vanish, then dragged a snakeskin bag out of the pavilion, took out a crumpled pack of cigarettes, and lit one for himself.
"Fuh—"
He exhaled a puff of smoke.
The elderly man looked up at the distant mountain range with some worry.
Hopefully, there won’t be another big fight.
He still remembers the scene when Xia Yue forcibly took that young girl.
This young man is not easy to deal with.
But since Xia Yue says he’s not that sensitive... It shouldn’t stir up any major trouble this time, right?
...
On the other side.
Chen Lusi was momentarily bewildered; once he regained awareness, he found himself standing in an unfamiliar place.
Towering peaks rose into the clouds nearby.
And a rugged mountain path twisted upwards, with scattered small flowers growing along its sides.
White flowers swayed in the wind, sometimes losing petals that drifted away.
They looked somewhat like peace lilies.
But upon closer inspection, they didn’t quite seem the same.
"We’re almost there."
Xia Yue stretched and said, while leading Chen Lusi up the mountain path, "Those Kunlun folks are so attached to the name that they insist on placing their headquarters in such an out-of-the-way place.
We’ve criticized them many times, but they never change... Though the scenery is indeed nice."
"What is a gatekeeper?"
Chen Lusi didn’t join in the criticism but instead asked curiously.
Just now, that elderly man... there was no Spirit fluctuation on him.
"It’s literal, Chai Pool’s Authority Ability is ’Enlightened,’ specified clearly in the Source Canon, referring to the legendary gatekeeping Divine Beast. So, don’t be fooled by the absence of any Spirit fluctuation from him. Within Kunlun’s domain, he’s the strongest force, strong without reason."
Xia Yue explained, "But outside Kunlun, he’s just an ordinary person, greatly limited. So over time, most Empowerers call him the gatekeeper. In fact, he is the strongest force here at Kunlun, serving as Kunlun’s facade of combat power.
After all, if there really were a fight near the Kunlun Mountain Range, the Celestial Strategy Mansion would scarcely have anyone capable of matching him."
"I see..."
Chen Lusi breathed a sigh of relief, recalling the seemingly ordinary elderly man.
Couldn’t help but marvel.
Truly amazing.
And as they conversed, they had already walked a fair bit along the path.
But curiously... the once rugged and steep mountain path became increasingly flat and broad as they ascended.
Reaching the mountainside.
The once rugged and steep path turned into what seemed as wide as a two-way road.
And the white flowers that were once scattered along the path became more densely packed.
In the end.
Chen Lusi looked at the dense clusters of white petals stirred up by the wind, even doubting if he was in the mountain.
"We’re here."
Xia Yue’s voice once again brought Chen Lusi back to his senses.
Chen Lusi looked up and realized they were nearly at the end of the path.
And at the path’s end, at the mountain top’s narrow pass.
Two statues resembling humans stood on each side, their features unclear, recognizable only as seemingly wearing armor, holding long halberds, facing each other.
Xia Yue stepped past the statues first and entered.
Chen Lusi observed the statues, pondered, and then followed closely.
But upon reaching the statues... he suddenly stopped.
Xia Yue noticed Chen Lusi hadn’t followed, turned around, "What’s the matter?"
"You might not believe this."
Chen Lusi paused, looked at Xia Yue, "But I seem unable to enter."
"..."
Xia Yue slightly furrowed his brows, turned around completely, "Unable to enter?"
"Yes."
Chen Lusi responded, glanced at the statues on either side, and reached out to touch what seemed like a transparent barrier before him, "Something seems to be blocking me, preventing my entry."
