Chapter 318 -315 Green Lin Railway
Chen Haiping didn’t mention what it was about, and he wasn’t clear himself, it was the Ancestor Dragon warrior stationed at Green Shadow who had found him.
Tang Yu was somewhat puzzled.
Lu Jianjun, whom he had met before, but their encounters had been few, and the transactions between the two territories had always been handled by Chen Haiping on this side and an official dedicated to these matters on the Lindong side.
In the eyes of outsiders, Tang Yu, as the ruler of Green Shadow, held a status almost on the same level as the top leader of a large Sanctuary.
However, in Lu Jianjun’s eyes, the situation was more complex, with feelings of satisfaction as well as wariness and concern.
Both sides maintained a certain tacit understanding, careful not to overstep.
…
After glancing at the busy scientists, Tang Yu promptly left the laboratory. He didn’t take the stairs; instead, he directly climbed over the window opposite the lab and jumped down.
It was very convenient.
The window had been designed to be quite spacious, and jumping through it didn’t feel cramped at all.
Having left the High-tech District, Tang Yu initially planned to drive his Floating Chariot but, upon reflection, turned and walked in a different direction.
“The Green Lin Railway has been open for half a month now, and I’ve heard it’s very convenient to take the train to Lindong. Trying the train after the apocalypse doesn’t sound bad—it’s not much slower than driving the Floating Chariot myself…”
Tang Yu checked the time, “It’s now three fifty-two, and at four o’clock this afternoon, there happens to be a train going to Lindong.”
He quickened his pace.
The train station was located to the southwest of the Sanctuary, built within the city walls. There was a gate on the side of the wall solely for train travel purposes.
When Tang Yu arrived at the train station, he only saw a few pedestrians hurrying towards the platform.
—It wasn’t that there were few people taking the train; rather, most passengers were already sitting on the train, waiting to depart.
When the train service had just opened, it had been unexpectedly popular. Ordinary survivors, including Low-level Awakeners, could only rely on the train to commute between the two places. The tickets for the first few trains sold out quickly, leaving many in the awkward situation of not being able to get a ticket during the busy season.
Now, everything was running smoothly. Ticket sales were not as frantic, but with two round trips daily—one in the morning and one in the late afternoon—each train still had an occupancy rate of over fifty percent.
The station wasn’t large; Tang Yu approached the ticket counter.
The staff didn’t recognize him and asked routinely, “Would you like a luxury compartment, or first class, second class, or third class?”
“Compartment tickets cost 3 Source Crystals, first class is 0.6 Source Crystals, second class is 0.2 Source Crystals, third class is 0.05…”
Tang Yu: “…”
Why were there even compartments available?
Whose idea was this, anyway? Brilliant…
It satisfied the affluent who didn’t mind being fleeced and also made train travel affordable for the poor.
Tang Yu thought about it; taking a compartment didn’t align with his purpose of experiencing train travel, and there was a high probability that his neighbors in second or third class would be survivors who hadn’t bathed for days. It wasn’t that he couldn’t tolerate it, but there was no need to put himself through that.
“I’ll take a first class ticket, please.”
“Sure, will you be paying with a card or Source Crystals?”
“Card.”
Tang Yu took out his almost unused ID card and swiped it… His hands moved quickly; there was no chance of his black gold VIP card being exposed, as the card reader lacked the advanced functions to identify cardholder details.
For now, it was good enough just to be functional.
…
“Carriage two, seat 12-B.”
Tang Yu headed towards the platform and saw the train parked in the distance from afar.
The train had been modified from an ordinary electric locomotive, its exterior welded with multiple layers of steel plates, even completely sealing the glass windows with steel, making it impossible to see the outside scenery from within the train.
Only the special compartment located in the first carriage, as well as the first-class seats in the second carriage, had their windows not entirely covered, leaving a small window to see outside, with crisscrossing iron bars forming a protective net, welded outside the window.
It wasn’t aesthetic, but it was fierce and impactful.
Tang Yu entered the carriage and found his seat to sit down.
The first-class seats had four per row, two on the left side of the aisle, and two on the right.
12-B was by the aisle, while 12-A was by the window.
At the moment, seat 12-A was vacant, and Tang Yu glanced at the time. With only three minutes left before the train’s departure, he thought for a moment, then moved to the window seat and sat down.
The whistle began to sound, accompanied by a slight tremor, as the train… was about to leave the platform.
“Excuse me… have you taken the wrong seat?”
Tang Yu turned around and saw a girl with tea-colored hair standing in the aisle of row 12, not knowing when she had appeared.
The girl was pulling a 28-inch luggage case, very new, seemingly just bought. She had a delicate appearance, wearing a white shirt with buttons tightly done up, outlining her curves and slender waist perfectly. Her long, round legs were tightly wrapped in black trousers, particularly eye-catching.
Tang Yu took a second look, but noticed that the girl’s shirt buttons were done incorrectly, making the white shirt look somewhat askew.
He promptly stood up and moved into the aisle.
The girl with tea-colored hair went to the window seat, sat down with her legs together leaning sideward without a gap, and placed her luggage case upright in front of her legs—there was enough space in the first-class seating area to fit the case between the two rows of seats.
The train left the platform, and after accelerating for some time, maintained a steady speed.
The train on the Green Lin Railway usually ran at about fifty kilometers per hour, with a maximum of eighty, which was much slower than a bullet train, but from Green Shadow to Lindong, it only took a bit over an hour one way, which was already very convenient.
Without any railway lines in the past, Awakeners had to spend most of their day on the road, and encounters with danger were inevitable.
Carriage two was not as noisy as the latter ones, but there were still quite a few people like him, on the train for the first time, curiously peering through the small window at the outside.
Mountains stretched on and on, the surface of the lake was crystal clear, and if not for the occasional sight of dilapidated houses, this scene was just like the days before the apocalypse.
Tang Yu had no intention to strike up a conversation. As he looked outside, he noticed that the girl in the adjacent seat had her eyes wide open, her watery eyes sparkling as she leaned against the window, sometimes even tapping on the glass, a picture of curiosity.
“This is the train, huh? Truly magical.”
The girl murmured softly, seemingly imprinting the image of the interior and the scenery outside, into her eyes.
The train had been running for about fifteen minutes.
Suddenly,
“Howwwwl—”
The howling of Demonized Beasts came from afar, getting rapidly closer.
There was some commotion inside the carriage, with many people craning their necks to look outside.
Demonized Beasts emerged from behind the mountains ahead, charging toward the train at full speed.
Tang Yu watched intently, more curious than the other passengers who were tense with nervousness.
The Arrow Towers towering on both sides of the railway started firing first.
Two distant Demonized Beasts were pierced through, their bodies exploding, but more fierce-faced Beasts continued to draw nearer.
The Arrow Towers couldn’t eradicate the pack of Demonized Beasts in such a short time.
Bang!
Bang! Bang!
The train vibrated, shaking violently.
