My Antique Mirror Is A Portal To Another World-Chapter 661: Let’s Save Him
Taking out a few pieces of copper coins and a wooden hairpin, the soldier placed them on the wooden table.
Looking at Bai Hanyun, the soldier said, "My hometown is still five cities away from here. It will take me at least another six months of travel to reach my destination."
Listening to him, Bai Hanyun raised her brows slightly but said nothing.
The soldier hesitated for a few seconds, then clasped his fists and bowed to Bai Hanyun.
"Young Lady, can you sell me some water and food?" he asked with a hint of hope and pleading in his voice.
Bai Hanyun was not lacking in supplies, but she also didn’t want to attract unwanted attention and trouble.
Staring at the soldier’s injured body and determined eyes, she sighed inwardly. ’Never mind, let’s just help him. If he dares to bring trouble to me, I can just blow him into pieces.’
Making up her mind, Bai Hanyun replied, "I don’t have much water and food left, so I can only sell some to you."
When the soldier heard this, his eyes reddened in gratitude.
As tears flowed down his cheeks, he gratefully said in a choked voice, "Th—thank you, Young Lady. I won’t forget your kindness. If there is a chance in the future, I will repay today’s favor."
Bai Hanyun casually waved her hand and said as she returned to the main house, "No need. You gave me money, so you don’t owe me anything."
When the door closed behind her, the soldier straightened his back.
Staring at the closed door, he clenched his hands and silently made a vow to survive this ordeal and repay this strange young lady’s kindness.
Inside the main house, Bai Hanyun saw that Hua Yuyu and the others had prepared food and water bags for the soldier.
Handing the burlap sack to her, Bao Shengjie grinned and explained, "Miss Bai, we overheard your conversation with that soldier. There are some crispy pancakes and compressed biscuits inside. If he rations the food carefully, this should be enough to last him for three months."
Pausing for a second, Bao Shengjie added, "Brother Ouyang noticed that he is injured, so we added some medicine for external and internal wounds." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
He then put the six water bags on top of the burlap sack and added, "This much water should be able to last him for at least three weeks."
Holding the burlap sack and the water bags, Bai Hanyun smiled at them and said, "Got it."
Seeing that her hands were full, Bao Shengjie quickly stepped forward and helped her open the door.
When the soldier heard the creaking sound, he looked up. Noticing the heavy burlap sack and the water bags in Bai Hanyun’s hands, his eyes flickered with disbelief.
Like before, Bai Hanyun placed the burlap sack and the water bags on top of the old wooden table, then took a few steps back.
Pointing at the supplies, she calmly said, "Take those things and leave my house."
The soldier came back to his senses when he heard this.
Looking at Bai Hanyun in disbelief, he stammered, "Y–Young Lady, are you sure I can take these with me? I... I only gave you a few copper coins and a wooden hairpin."
Knowing the value of food and water in the current world, plagued by wars and natural disasters, the soldier couldn’t believe that a stranger would give him so many supplies in exchange for a few copper coins and an old wooden hairpin.
When the soldier’s doubtful voice echoed in the silent surroundings, Bai Hanyun took out the wooden hairpin from her sleeve pocket, then slowly caressed its smooth surface.
Smiling slightly, she said, "The surface of this wooden hairpin is very smooth. It’s evidence that its owner used to touch it often."
After saying that, she raised her eyes to look at the soldier. "Sir, you used your valuable wooden hairpin to exchange for food and water. Those supplies are yours."
The soldier’s eyes turned red at her words. He gave the wooden hairpin one last look, then clasped his fists and bowed deeply to Bai Hanyun.
"Thank you, Young Lady."
Leaving those words behind, the soldier opened the burlap sack, then put the water bags inside before tying it up. Carrying the burlap sack on his back, he limped out of the front yard.
After the soldier left, Bai Hanyun quickly returned to the main house. The moment she stepped inside, she said, "Brothers, we must leave this place as soon as possible."
Just as her words fell, they heard another creaking sound coming from outside.
Creak~!
At once, everyone present turned to look at the closed door.
Walking toward the window, Hua Yuyu peeked outside. Realizing that the new visitor was Ouyang Zhuangyu, he looked at the others and said, "It’s Zhuangyu."
After informing the others, Hua Yuyu opened the door and walked out.
Seeing him approaching, Ouyang Zhuangyu smiled at Hua Yuyu as sweat dripped down his chin. "Brother Hua, can you lend me a hand? This man looks so thin, but his armor is really heavy."
Without saying anything, Hua Yuyu quickly lifted the unconscious soldier from Ouyang Zhuangyu’s shoulder and returned to the main house.
Following behind him, Ouyang Zhuangyu let out a sigh of relief. After the door closed behind him, Ouyang Zhuangyu saw Hua Yuyu place the unconscious soldier on the wooden bed.
Approaching the bed, he said, "He is still alive, but very weak."
Standing by the bed, Bai Hanyun and the others watched Hua Yuyu take off the soldier’s armor and check on his injuries.
When he was done, he looked at Bao Shengjie and ordered, "Shengjie, go and boil a pot of water."
"Yes, Brother Hua." Receiving the order, Bao Shengjie quickly left the main house.
Standing by the bed, Bai Hanyun curiously asked, "How is his condition?"
Being asked by her, Hua Yuyu shook his head. "It’s very bad. His injuries were already infected, causing the flesh around the wounds to rot."
"I will try to clean his wounds and give him antibiotics and painkillers. Whether he can survive or not... will depend on his willpower."
Listening to his explanation, Bai Hanyun’s expression turned solemn. She stared thoughtfully at the soldier’s dirty face, covered in dust and blood, in silence.
After a brief moment of silence, she suddenly said, "Let’s save him."
