My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 44: Don’t Make Me Go Crazy
Stella Sterling ignored her, so Ariana Grant continued on her own, "As I recall, Owen Rhodes isn’t a southpaw."
She deliberately nudged the person beside her with her elbow. "The server put the wine right by his right hand, but he just *had* to reach for it with his left. Now, why do you think that is?"
’What else could it be?’
’She already said it—to show off his wedding ring.’ 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Teased by Ariana Grant until she had no patience left, Stella Sterling turned to leave.
As she turned her head, she saw a dark figure standing not far away.
Stella Sterling startled easily, and the sight made her jump.
When she got a better look, she realized the dark figure was Joel Joyce.
Her expression immediately darkened as she walked away, looking gloomy.
Because Stella Sterling had been startled, Ariana Grant naturally noticed Joel Joyce as well.
Ariana Grant shot him a huge eye-roll before following Stella Sterling.
But as she passed Joel Joyce, she suddenly stopped.
"You heard what I just said, didn’t you?"
Joel Joyce pressed his lips together and didn’t answer, which Ariana Grant took as a silent admission.
"If you dare repeat a word of that, I’ll have someone cut your tongue out."
After delivering her threat, she added, "What a jinx," and went to catch up with Stella Sterling.
While everyone’s attention was focused on Owen Rhodes, Stella Sterling came down from the second floor.
Owen Rhodes stood at the bottom of the stairs, with Liam Hawthorne by his side.
As if by some unspoken agreement, an empty circle had formed around the two of them.
And so, Stella Sterling strode brazenly through the open space in front of Owen Rhodes, the two acting as if they were complete strangers.
Because of this, everyone in the banquet hall noticed Stella Sterling’s sudden appearance.
At first, they silently criticized her lack of manners, daring to walk past Owen Rhodes as if he wasn’t even there.
A few seconds later, their eyes lit up, and they began whispering, wondering which family this ethereal beauty belonged to and why they had never seen her before.
The low murmurs reached Kiana Sterling’s ears one after another. She gritted her teeth, struggling to maintain the smile on her face.
Stella Sterling heard them too but acted as if she hadn’t, not even sparing a glance toward the Sterling Family.
She found a random empty seat and waited with Ariana Grant for the ceremony to begin.
Sensing Kiana Sterling’s gaze on her, Stella Sterling met her eyes and gave her a faint smile.
That smile instantly captivated another group of people.
Gavin Sterling and Madeline Jennings hadn’t expected Stella Sterling to show up tonight dressed so extravagantly.
After a moment of being stunned by her beauty, Madeline Jennings’s anger flared.
She walked over to Stella Sterling and stopped. Though her face still wore the gentle smile of a wealthy socialite, she spoke through gritted teeth.
"Stella Sterling, do you have any manners? Today is Kiana’s engagement party. Who’s spotlight are you trying to steal, dressing up so beautifully?"
Stella Sterling merely glanced coolly at the looks they were attracting from all around.
"Ms. Jennings, I have no intention of stealing the spotlight, but now that you’re here, a lot more people are looking our way."
Everyone was already curious about who this beauty was, and Madeline Jennings had just walked over and given the game away.
Hearing this, Madeline Jennings glanced around and saw that it was true. Quite a few people were sneaking glances in their direction.
For a moment, even Owen Rhodes was forgotten.
Just then, the lights in the banquet hall dimmed, leaving only the elaborately decorated stage illuminated, which became the center of attention.
Under the dim lights, Owen Rhodes made his way toward the elegant and eye-catching young woman.
On stage, the emcee began to host the evening’s ceremony, and everyone turned their attention to the stage.
A familiar scent of pine and bamboo drifted past. Stella Sterling turned her head to see Owen Rhodes standing beside her.
She didn’t know when he had gotten a glass of juice, but he swapped it for the red wine in her hand.
"Drink less."
Stella Sterling watched his actions without a word, but Ariana Grant chimed in with a laugh, "Steward Rhodes is so strict, isn’t he? Stella Sterling, are you going to be a good girl?"
Owen Rhodes treated Ariana Grant like she was thin air, murmuring softly to Stella Sterling, "The red wine here is mediocre. We have a few good bottles at home. If you like, we can drink at home some other day. When you’re out, drink less, understand?"
Ariana Grant: "..."
’Just listen to that gentle, whispering tone.’
’Is he really coaxing a child?’
And yet, Stella Sterling nodded obediently. "I know."
Ariana Grant: "..."
’Well, it seems Stella Sterling really is a good girl.’
And so, for the rest of the evening, Ariana Grant never saw Stella Sterling drink alcohol again.
Of course, Stella Sterling soon had no time to drink anyway.
The engagement ceremony went by quickly. After the couple exchanged gifts, Jonathan Rhodes and Gavin Sterling each gave a short congratulatory speech, and the ceremony concluded.
Next came the banquet and toasts.
When the lights came back on, Owen Rhodes had already taken Liam Hawthorne to the next table, and people soon started coming over to toast him.
The banquet was a self-serve buffet.
Stella Sterling really had just come for the food.
While she was picking out desserts, Gavin Sterling approached her with a father and son in tow.
Gavin Sterling addressed her with a rare term of endearment, "Stella."
"Stella, this is President Hollis of the Hollis Group, and his son, Mr. Hollis. I’ve told you about them before."
Stella Sterling leisurely scanned the desserts on the table. Only after she had picked a piece of everything she wanted did she turn to glance at President Hollis and his son.
The son, Mr. Hollis, was named Felix Hollis. He didn’t look very old, but his body was as round and pudgy as a bloated middle-aged man’s, and his eyes were squeezed into two narrow slits on his face.
Stella Sterling gave them an indifferent nod and turned to walk away.
Gavin Sterling’s expression immediately soured. He reached out, grabbed her arm, and hissed, "Don’t you have any manners?"
Stella Sterling’s red lips parted. "I don’t."
With that, she turned to President Hollis and said with a faint smile, "President Hollis, my apologies. My father doesn’t seem to understand the rules. I’m sorry to have wasted your time."
She switched the plate to her right hand, flashing the wedding ring on her left for the Hollis father and son to see. "Didn’t President Sterling inform you that I am already married?"
The platinum ring on her ring finger glittered, dazzling President Hollis’s eyes—and Gavin Sterling’s as well.
He froze for a second before quickly grabbing Stella Sterling’s raised hand and forcing it down.
"President Hollis, I’ve spoiled this girl rotten. She’s been very rebellious lately. All this talk of being married... she’s just spouting nonsense. Please forgive her."
For a moment, Walter Hollis didn’t know who to believe, but the situation was undeniably awkward.
He gave a displeased laugh. "President Sterling, it seems Miss Sterling already has someone she fancies. This is an age of free love, after all. We should respect the children’s wishes."
It was a polite refusal of the marriage alliance.
Stella Sterling couldn’t be bothered to deal with them any longer. She shook off Gavin Sterling’s hand and started to walk away.
Gavin Sterling quickly followed.
Hearing his footsteps, Stella Sterling stopped and turned back to warn him, "President Sterling, know when to stop. Don’t force me to make a scene right now."
