My Alleged Husband-Chapter 50 - 49: Bowed Head_1
Time swiftly passed, and before she knew it, the next day arrived. Xia Jing got up early in the morning to dress up, and then she called Zhang Zhentian.
"Zhentian, I’m on my way. Wait for my good news!" Xia Jing said softly to Zhang Zhentian.
Zhang Zhentian really wanted to accompany Xia Jing to find Li Jiayuan. He wanted to protect Xia Jing because he feared Li Jiayuan might be unreasonably harsh.
"Xia Jing, could you let me accompany you to see Li Jiayuan? I won’t do anything, just let me be there to see you, to be with you..." Zhang Zhentian spoke up, sharing his thoughts with Xia Jing.
"Zhentian, if you trust me, then don’t come with me. Trust me, I can definitely do this. I have to go now; I can’t talk anymore." After Xia Jing said that to Zhang Zhentian, she hung up without waiting for a response. Zhang Zhentian, looking at the disconnected phone, felt helpless and could only heave a quiet sigh.
An hour later, at the Li Family home.
Xia Jing arrived at the door of the Li Family. Standing at the entrance to Li Jiayuan’s home, she took several deep breaths—not from fear, timidity, or a desire to give up, but to psych herself up. She firmly believed she could do it and wouldn’t let Zhang Zhentian down.
She stood at the door for a full ten minutes before finally taking steps towards the doorbell.
Ding dong... Ding dong... Xia Jing rang the doorbell, and Li Jiayuan opened the door from inside using a switch. Xia Jing walked slowly into Li Jiayuan’s home. She did not feel heavy-hearted about going to see Li Jiayuan; instead, she felt light-footed, knowing that as long as she received Li Jiayuan’s forgiveness, she could be with Zhang Zhentian and free herself from the title of a murderer. She was happy inside, and in a few steps, she entered and met Li Jiayuan.
Li Jiayuan, seeing the visitor was Xia Jing, showed utter disdain. Xia Jing knew Li Jiayuan looked down on her. If it had been the old Xia Jing, she would have been overwhelmingly angry at Li Jiayuan’s behavior, but ever since she had sent her subordinates to kill Li Jiayuan, she realized that Li Jiayuan really wasn’t that terrible, just a child who had been spoiled by her father from a young age. So, her hatred for Li Jiayuan diminished.
"Miss Li, may I have a talk with you?" Xia Jing asked Li Jiayuan.
Li Jiayuan still knew hospitality, and seeing that Xia Jing didn’t feel awkward about meeting her, she wondered why she should feel ill at ease.
"Of course, please come in!" Li Jiayuan welcomed Xia Jing into her home.
Li Jiayuan leisurely poured a glass of water for Xia Jing and slowly approached her. Handing the water to Xia Jing, she said, "Miss Xia, I’m sorry, but my father is not at home, so please make yourself comfortable."
After Li Jiayuan spoke, without waiting for Xia Jing to reply, she took a seat on the sofa.
Xia Jing gave Li Jiayuan a smile and did not say much.
Li Jiayuan, seeing Xia Jing acting as if she didn’t mind, felt peeved inside. She thought, Xia Jing, you’re so formidable, aren’t you? Since you’ve come to me today, I’m going to take you down a notch. I want to see how long you can stay pompous in front of me, Li Jiayuan.
"May I know the reason for Miss Xia’s sudden visit?" Li Jiayuan asked Xia Jing, with no intention of actually giving her a chance to speak. Before Xia Jing could respond, Li Jiayuan said, "Shh! Let me guess, are you here for revenge? No, that’s not right! Sorry, I can’t guess. Why don’t you tell me?"
Xia Jing knew Li Jiayuan was doing this on purpose, but she couldn’t get angry. She was there to apologize to Li Jiayuan, not to add fuel to the fire, so Xia Jing chose to endure.
"Miss Li, I came to you because..."
Before Xia Jing could finish, Li Jiayuan interrupted again: "Miss Xia, you can speak directly, don’t beat around the bush. Even though I, Li Jiayuan, don’t know or understand much, I still know the old saying ’No one comes to the temple without a cause.’ Miss Xia, don’t you agree?"
Although Xia Jing knew Li Jiayuan was being deliberate, she still thought to herself how foolish Li Jiayuan was. Of course, she came for a reason; otherwise, why would anyone bother to visit her?
"Miss Li, can you please let me finish? I’m here today to apologize to you." In one breath, Xia Jing revealed her purpose for seeking out Li Jiayuan.
When Li Jiayuan heard Xia Jing say this, she was first stunned, then laughed coldly, "Xia Jing, Xia Jing, I really didn’t expect you, the proud leader of the Mercenary Group, would actually come to apologize to a little woman like me. How can I possibly bear that?"
As Li Jiayuan’s mocking voice reached Xia Jing’s ears, Xia Jing knew Li Jiayuan was still angry about the time she had hired someone to kill her. Xia Jing said to Li Jiayuan, "Miss Li, regarding the incident where Xiao Wei attempted to assassinate you, I indeed made a mistake. I apologize to you and hope you can forgive me."
Xia Jing bowed ninety degrees to Li Jiayuan, who could hardly believe her own eyes, thinking to herself: Xia Jing is actually lowering her head to me!
Looking at Xia Jing bending over, Li Jiayuan thought of using this opportunity to really put Xia Jing in her place.
"Oh, how can an apology be so simple as a bow? Do you mean to say that the life of the heiress of the Li Corporation is only worth a bow from the leader of the Mercenary Group?" Li Jiayuan spoke to Xia Jing unhurriedly.
Xia Jing knew Li Jiayuan was taking her revenge, but as she was in the wrong, what else could she do but endure it?
Having no choice, Xia Jing knelt down to Li Jiayuan. Not only was Li Jiayuan stunned, but even Xia Jing had not expected that she would go to this extent for Zhang Zhentian. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Seeing Xia Jing on the ground, Li Jiayuan slowly squatted down and looked at Xia Jing eye to eye, saying, "Xia Jing, can I ask you a question?"
"Go ahead!"
"Did you try to have me killed because I had an accidental affair with Zhang Zhentian?" Li Jiayuan stared intently into Xia Jing’s eyes, fearing she would lie.
"I admit, I did send Xiao Wei to kill you because of that incident," Xia Jing said to Li Jiayuan, neither humble nor arrogant.
Li Jiayuan didn’t know what to say or think anymore. She helped Xia Jing up and said to her, "I know you came to me today to lower your head because of Zhang Zhentian, and I also know how important my forgiveness is to you. Because I understand Uncle Zhang, and he would agree to your marriage with Zhentian only if I forgive you, right?"
"That’s right, as long as you can forgive me, I’m willing to do anything. I just want to be with Zhentian. You’ve never loved someone; you don’t know what it’s like to love someone to the marrow of your bones."
"How do you know I’ve never loved someone? It’s because I have loved that I’m aware of what it feels like, so I chose to forgive you," Li Jiayuan argued with Xia Jing.
Upon hearing Li Jiayuan’s words, Xia Jing suddenly realized, "Are you saying you forgive me?"
"Yes, I forgive you, but you need to answer me a few questions."
"As long as you forgive me, even ten questions are no problem."
"Xia Jing, I want to know how Xiao Wei is doing. Is he well? Can members of the Mercenary Group marry?" Li Jiayuan asked what was on her mind.
Hearing Li Jiayuan’s questions, Xia Jing didn’t even think before she asked outright, "Miss Li, Xiao Wei is doing quite well. You’re not saying your unrequited love is Xiao Wei, are you?"
Li Jiayuan did not expect her feelings to be so easily seen through by Xia Jing. Her face reddening, she said, "I hope you can keep this secret for me. Also, I’ve already forgiven you, and I will call Uncle Zhang to tell him. From now on, don’t call me Miss Li, just call me Jiayuan! I don’t blame you for any of this; I know you did it because your love for Zhang Zhentian goes to the marrow of your bones!"
Xia Jing hadn’t expected Li Jiayuan to be so magnanimous. She felt relieved in her heart that Xiao Wei hadn’t killed Li Jiayuan back then.
"Okay, then I’ll be leaving, and I’ll find you in a few days to go shopping together!" Xia Jing said to Li Jiayuan, waved goodbye, and left.
Knowing that Xiao Wei was doing well, Li Jiayuan felt relieved.
