My Alleged Husband-Chapter 44 Xia Jing is Angry_1
Zhang Zhentian was frantic at home, knowing that Xia Jing must be angry; otherwise, she wouldn’t have turned off her phone for no reason. He was extremely vexed, wondering how he could have thought that Xia Jing, after meeting with him in the afternoon, would call him that evening?
All night, Zhang Zhentian hoped for dawn to arrive. Staring at the ceiling, he thought about how torturous each night without Xia Jing by his side had been, and he truly didn’t want to live with this yearning any longer. Too impatient for the day to break on its own, he dashed out of his house and sped towards Xia Jing’s house in his BMW.
Xia Jing was at home, pondering the words she had said when she called Zhang Zhentian. She couldn’t understand why Zhang Zhentian had made up with her that afternoon only to be on the phone with Li Jiayuan in the evening. Could it be that their relationship was truly out of the ordinary?
Xia Jing couldn’t figure out why when she called Zhang Zhentian, he thought it was Li Jiayuan and didn’t even give her a chance to speak, cursing her as soon as he opened his mouth.
Unable to understand, Xia Jing stopped trying to decipher it. She buried her head under the blanket, put on her headphones, listened to music, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
While Xia Jing was smiling happily in her dreams, Zhang Zhentian was still worried about whether Xia Jing was angry over the words he had said to her.
On the way, Zhang Zhentian thought about how to explain things to Xia Jing, trying to figure out how to make her less angry. He drove as fast as possible, causing passersby at night to think he was drag racing due to his astonishing speed.
After a dozen minutes, Zhang Zhentian finally arrived at Xia Jing’s neighborhood. Disregarding the rules, he carelessly parked his car on the main road and ran to Xia Jing’s apartment door.
He climbed up one floor after another until he reached the sixteenth floor where Xia Jing lived. Breathless, he rushed over and knocked loudly on the door of Xia Jing’s house.
He knocked again and again. At first, Zhang Zhentian knocked gently, but as time went on, his knocking turned into a venting of frustration. Yet there was not a single response from inside. Furious, he couldn’t care less about propriety and kicked open the front door of Xia Jing’s house. Zhang Zhentian stormed into the bedroom, saw Xia Jing lying on the bed, called out to her a few times to no avail, and then, unable to suppress his rage any longer, he strode fiercely to the side of her bed and yanked her up.
Xia Jing, who had been deep in slumber, was abruptly awoken by Zhang Zhentian’s vigorous tug. Rubbing her bleary eyes and opening them in a daze, she saw that the person standing before her was none other than Zhang Zhentian. Startled, she sat up quickly, looking at Zhentian, not understanding what she had done to deserve his spiteful gaze. Xia Jing felt very uncomfortable being looked at like that and turned away, refusing to look at him.
Zhang Zhentian was infuriated by Xia Jing’s reaction, and without any courtesy, he roared at her, "Xia Jing, what do you mean by this? You won’t even give me a chance to explain, and are you really that afraid of seeing me?"
Xia Jing couldn’t help but laugh when she heard Zhang Zhentian say that. She answered him without mincing words, "What do you mean ’what do I mean’? Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that? Zhang Zhentian, did you give me a chance to speak when I called you? You started cursing at me out of nowhere, is that fun for you? And another thing, Zhang Zhentian, why should I be afraid to see you if I haven’t done anything to wrong you? If anyone should be afraid, it should be you scared of seeing me, don’t you think?"
Xia Jing looked at Zhang Zhentian with a half-smile, even though he knew he was in the wrong about this matter, he had no intention of admitting it. In his mind, he thought: Why should I be the one admitting wrongdoing every time? Why does Xia Jing get to never bow her head? Why do I always have to chase after her every time she goes abroad?
The more Zhang Zhentian thought about it, the less willing he was to give in. Instead of apologizing, he confronted Xia Jing, "Xia Jing, what exactly do you consider me in your heart? Am I just a pet to you that you can summon and dismiss at will? What do you want from me for you to be satisfied? Do I have to rip out my heart to show you just how much I care about you?"
Zhang Zhentian grew more agitated as he spoke, eventually roaring at Xia Jing. Xia Jing sneered inwardly and retorted, "Zhang Zhentian, who do you think you are? We just got back together this afternoon, and by evening, you’re on the phone with that woman Li Jiayuan. Do you think that’s fair to me? And another thing, Zhang Zhentian, do you really think I don’t care about you? Let me tell you, Zhang Zhentian, do you know why Li Jiayuan keeps pestering you with calls? Because you’re indecisive. Do you have any idea what it feels like to be insulted by you? Do you realize how much pain I felt seeing you entwined with Li Jiayuan in that hotel? Do you know how much I’ve given up to be with you? Why can’t you see anyone but yourself, always blind to me? Do you know that my biggest dream is to marry you? But what about you, what do you consider me? I’ve never treated you like a pet, nor have I ever dismissed you on a whim."
Zhang Zhentian listened in silence to Xia Jing’s words. Seeing he wasn’t responding, she continued, "Hearts are made of flesh and can hurt. You keep hurting me like this over and over; are you not afraid that one day I will really leave you? When you do things, can you at least try to consider my feelings? I’m human too, and I want to live a simple life with the person I love. Is that wish really so hard to achieve? I know what you’re thinking. You must be wondering why, when both of us are human, it’s always Zhang Zhentian who has to apologize when I’m upset rather than Xia Jing apologizing to you, right?"
Xia Jing’s words struck a chord with Zhang Zhentian. He looked at her somewhat awkwardly as he was about to explain, but Xia Jing spoke again.
"Zhang Zhentian, don’t tell me you didn’t hear me when I called you. I can understand if you didn’t pick up the home phone; maybe you were busy. But why did you not even give me a chance to speak when I called your mobile, and just started cursing? And then there’s Li Jiayuan—if it were you, wouldn’t you misunderstand as well? I don’t ask for anything else. Remember, when you returned to the country, I told you to come find me only after you had thought things through. I also told you if I ever found out you were still entangled with Li Jiayuan, don’t blame me for really leaving you. You didn’t take my words seriously, so, I’m sorry..."
When Zhang Zhentian heard the three words "I’m sorry," he knew what Xia Jing was about to say and do. He didn’t even wait for her to finish and quickly interjected, "Xia Jing, it’s really not like you think. I haven’t been in touch with Li Jiayuan; she was the one hassling me with calls in the middle of the night. I didn’t answer. She called again and again, and I didn’t pick up. But just as you called, I thought it was her, so I cursed at you by mistake. Xia Jing, please, don’t be mad, okay?"
Zhang Zhentian desperately grabbed Xia Jing’s hand as he spoke, but she remained indifferent.
"Zhentian, when you emailed me, I thought you had figured things out. But now it seems you haven’t, so I’ll give you time to think it over. During this period, I hope you don’t come looking for me. Otherwise, I will leave this place again and go somewhere where no one can find me."
After saying that, Xia Jing drove Zhang Zhentian out, and when he saw her walking back into the house without a backward glance, he knew she was truly angry.
"Looks like I’ll have to wait a while before I come to find her again." Zhang Zhentian silently turned and left.
