Chapter 99: Chapter 98: Chang Hu

Xiao Xueyin’s eyes narrowed. He didn’t know the man at the elevator door, but someone waiting for the elevator at this hour was likely a Death Fighter.

He decisively decided to strike first.

Without a word, he swung the short knife in his hand directly at the man’s head.

Clang~

Chang Hu raised his left hand and caught the blade of the short knife.

Seeing this, Xiao Xueyin’s pupils narrowed, and a strong sense of unease surged within him.

He exerted force with his arm, trying to pull the knife out, but the short knife gripped by a fleshly hand didn’t budge.

Such strength!

Without hesitation, Xiao Xueyin let go of the knife and kicked Chang Hu in the abdomen.

Chang Hu stepped back half a step, using a monkey-fetching-the-moon-like move with his right hand to precisely grab Xiao Xueyin’s ankle and then yanked him out of the elevator.

Bam!

His back hit the ground hard, causing Xiao Xueyin to retch slightly.

"Quick reflexes, huh."

Chang Hu tossed the short knife aside and commented plainly.

Not giving up the fight, Xiao Xueyin took a deep breath and held it, supporting himself on the floor with his hands, spinning his legs like a Thomas Flair, intending to drive the opponent back.

"What’s the situation upstairs now? ’Smiling Face’ is still alive, right?"

As Chang Hu probed for information, he blocked with his arms in front of him, the dull thud of physical collision followed, and he forcibly countered Xiao Xueyin’s spinning leg attack.

Seeing that the opponent had no intention of answering, he stomped heavily on Xiao Xueyin’s chest again.

Chang Hu’s powerful attack made Xiao Xueyin feel like he had been hit head-on by a large truck, his chest bones seemingly shattered.

"I’ll give you three more seconds to reconsider."

Chang Hu pressed down forcefully with his foot.

Xiao Xueyin’s face flushed red, and he couldn’t help but grunt.

"Tsk."

Chang Hu smirked: "Forget it, I’ll go up and see for myself."

Before he finished speaking, his left hand suddenly tore open, countless strips of flesh intertwined, finally forming a giant bone blade with two bizarre eyeballs.

"Parasitic creature?!"

Xiao Xueyin doubted his own eyes.

"Oh, you mean Little Tiger? It wasn’t willing at first."

Chang Hu grinned, slowly raising his left hand.

The bone blade slashed down, and Xiao Xueyin was eliminated on the spot; he never had a chance to don his title.

...

"My God, what are you up to? Do you even know what time it is?!"

On the other end of the line, Xu Qiang’s voice was full of resentment, clearly still groggy from being awakened.

"No one wanted this to happen."

Lv Bai sat cross-legged on the hospital bed, responding serenely.

He glanced at Yao Yi on the adjacent bed; probably due to his severe injuries, Yao Yi was in a deep sleep like a baby, undisturbed by the noise in the corridor.

After Xu Qiang quickly vented his complaints, he asked earnestly, "What’s the situation over there?"

"Not optimistic. A lot of parasitic creatures have entered the hospital tonight. I suspect the Mayor is targeting me."

Lv Bai said confidently.

He understood the truth better than anyone, but that didn’t stop him from first pointing the finger at the Mayor.

"And the commotion is quite big; quite a few patients have probably called the police already. You better hurry; I’m worried the police might be the Mayor’s backup."

"Don’t panic, you’re not dismissed yet. When the police arrive, stand up and control the situation. I’m on my way."

Xu Qiang got out of bed, holding the phone between his ear and shoulder while cursing as he dressed.

"Hurry up, the police have already arrived."

Through the dense slats of the blinds, flashing red and blue lights mixed with loud sirens were visible.

Lv Bai walked to the window for a look, spotting about seven or eight police cars below in the inpatient department, with likely more on the way.

Thus, it seemed quite a few patients had indeed called the police.

"What the hell!!!"

Before Lv Bai could turn his head back, he heard Yao Yi let out a hysterical scream.

"Hiss..."

The reaction was too intense, aggravating his wound and causing him to grimace in pain.

Lv Bai turned around, speaking gently, "Don’t be nervous."

Yao Yi, trembling, shrank on the hospital bed. Despite the room’s low visibility, his complexion was clearly pale.

He couldn’t be blamed for overreacting; he’d never experienced something like this before.

Anyone roused from a hazy sleep to find a pile of corpses nearby would understandably be shocked.

He wanted to catch his breath to calm his nerves but was immediately nauseated by the strong scent of blood.

However, if nothing else, this ordeal completely dispelled the remnants of his drowsiness.

In terms of alertness, it worked wonders.

Yao Yi stammered, "Th-these people, w-what’s going on?"

"Don’t worry, they’re all parasitic creatures."

Lv Bai patted his shoulder reassuringly.

Parasitic creatures again?

Hearing this all-purpose excuse, Yao Yi’s eyelids twitched.

...

"A nurse was found unconscious in the elevator, vital signs stable."

"A deceased person was found on the fifth floor."

"Two missing security personnel were found dead in the first-floor restroom."

In the elevator, Pu Guangrong listened to the report over the radio, clicking his tongue.

From the initial assessment, this seemed to be the work of a team.

Ding dong~

They arrived at the sixth floor.

A row of elevator doors opened in succession.

Several police officers poured out of the elevator car.

What met their eyes were the corpses of Lao Da and Zhi Da.

Alongside the two mangled bodies in the corridor, Pu Guangrong felt the perpetrator was utterly heartless.

With the current count of deceased, it was already a significant public safety incident.

Police officers quickly switched the corridor lights to bright incandescent ones.

The patients in the rooms, who had been observing secretly, slowly opened their doors upon seeing the police.

The silence didn’t last long before patients began chattering amongst themselves.

Seeing this, Pu Guangrong felt a headache coming on. He lit a cigarette, placed it in his mouth, and patted the young officer next to him, "Go ask who called the police."

There was more than one caller. The young officer spent some time gathering the details from the patients.

"Brother Guangrong, something doesn’t add up."

The young officer looked at his notepad, "These witnesses have conflicting stories. Some say it was a group fight, others say it was a theft discovered..."

"That’s not important; first, identify the deceased."

Pu Guangrong exhaled a plume of smoke and added, "Anyone witness the killer’s actions?"

The young officer nodded quickly.

"Yes, there were several killers seen, and ultimately only two people survived. One took the elevator down, and the other hid in a hospital room."
