Mute Mate: The Alpha's Obsession-Chapter 207: Eyes She Wasn’t Meant To Meet
Riella rolled as her body hugged something soft...
’Is this a dream?’ She wondered because of how soft the place was feeling. She had never felt this good in her life before—so good. She usually felt something hard when she woke up; sleeping had never been good for her. She was never the kind to enjoy such. If this was a dream, she just wanted it to never end at all.
But why did this dream feel so good to be true? She rolled again, her body feeling the softness underneath. She pressed her face to the pillow as she stirred. She was so scared to open her eyes as she thought it would disappear. A few seconds passed and this really began to feel just too good... too real.
But just then, as if something hit her, the memories of earlier began to rush in like a huge wave.
She immediately sat up as she jumped like a person who had just touched burning wood.
"No! Oh heavens, I am in such big trouble!" she said to herself, her heart beating loudly in her chest. She began to arrange the bed. To her surprise, she noticed that the bed and the pillow had been slightly stained—not as much as she had expected because the mud that had been on her face had been far more.
Her hands moved to her face and surprisingly, it was neat.
Guilt crashed over her as she realized that it must have been the vampire prince who had cleaned her face. She looked through the window and realized that the weather had gotten dark.
This meant one thing—she had slept long on the prince’s bed, and he had no place to stay, not to mention she had also hugged the pillow and laid on it like she belonged to it.
She began to smack her forehead hard.
"You’re so stupid, Riella! How would you get so comfortable like this in a royal room?" she said annoyingly as she began to remove the bedsheet.
Just as she did, she rushed to the door to leave. Maybe once she leaves she could quickly get another bedsheet and come back to dress the bed before he returns. She stopped at the door as she looked back at the bed to check if she would need to bring anything else or not.
She sighed in relief, but just as she turned her body, she gasped loudly.
There, in front of her, stood Prince Vrazen, his eyes locked on her wide ones.
Riella immediately lowered her head as she realized what she had done. Her mind already flowed with different questions. She knew that vampires had speed..she knew this because she was a vampire too—but where did he come from?
But of course, she could not ask that. She was not planning to die anytime soon. And also, no maid would dare speak first.
The silence grew and her heart began to pound in fear.
She immediately realized she had not bowed to him. She quickly lowered her head. Her hands around the bedsheet tightened as nervousness seeped in. She was already beginning to feel nervous—very nervous. The aura he had was intimidating and suffocating.
"Go back and sit," Vrazen finally spoke as he stared at her bowed head.
He noticed the way her body froze, then she bowed again before turning back. Riella knew one thing—as a maid, to follow the rules and regulations of the castle and royals.
Riella calmly sat on the bed, still holding the sheet and pillowcase. She lowered her head, different questions popping in her head, but she remained calm.
She heard his footsteps as he moved to the royal sofa and sat. He was now facing her, even though he was far away.
"Raise your head and speak to me normally. I give you permission," Vrazen finally spoke.
Knowing he had given her permission, she raised her face, locking eyes with him. Vrazen stared at her green eyes.
And for some unknown reason... he just had some kind of urge to know more.
"I would ask you some questions and you respond. Is that clear?" Vrazen spoke.
She nodded before saying softly,
"As you wish, Prince Vrazen."
Even though she did not want to feel free, she felt free. Despite the coldness of the room, she did not know if it was because of his handsomeness that made her feel free. He was even more handsome than the rumors. No wonder most of the maids had gone to the extent of doing their best just to be assigned to clean his room.
But despite that, she knew this was the first time a royal had given her permission to look at them. The last time she had raised her head even slightly, the resounding slap that had kissed her cheek had left her sight momentarily blurry.
"What did you do?" Vrazen finally asked curiously, his face as blank as stone.
Riella gave a small bow and spoke softly, trying to keep her face calm, but the sadness that flashed through did not escape his sharp gaze.
Riella decided to say the truth. Not like the prince would care, and she knew better than to lie to a royal.
"We have different ranks of maids... and the lowest rank are not supposed to talk back. I had..." she paused, shifting her gaze from his. She could not hold his gaze that long.
"Go on?" Vrazen said calmly.
Riella’s face fell.
"My lucky stone... they had taken it. I told them to give it back and... I also broke their rule by looking at her," she answered softly, her hands fidgeting with the sheet.
Vrazen stared at her calmly before speaking:
"You may leave."
Riella stood quickly and rushed to the door. She prayed the head maid would not punish her, as she had been gone for hours.

Queen Diana walked quickly through the empty long hallway, holding her gown tightly. The candles were dimly lit. Paintings of past kings and ancients hung on each side. A chandelier filled with candles illuminated the hall leading to the chambers she shared with her husband.
Her heart beat loudly.
She turned back, but just as she did, her body bumped into something hard.
Her eyes moved up... locking onto his.
Raphel’s.
Their gaze held for a moment before she quickly looked away.
"Let’s stop this, Raphel. I can’t take it anymore. We can’t keep doing this... I am tired," she said softly, her voice cracking.
Raphel’s red eyes locked on hers. He said nothing.
Diana lowered her face... but he gently lifted her chin to look at him.
"You love him so much that you forget we were once..." his voice trailed off.
He pulled her into a hug.
A soft gasp escaped her lips as his face rested on her neck. His scent—one she thought she could ignore—was irresistible.
"Please... let me hold you for a bit. I am scared."
Diana froze. She had never heard hurt in his voice before. Raphel was never one to admit fear. Hearing it now made her chest tighten.
"I’m scared knowing I will lose you and there is nothing I can do about it," he whispered.
Diana pressed her lips together, fighting the urge to cry. If she cried, her husband would ask why... and she didn’t want to worry him.
Raphel slowly pulled back.
"Go now... We wouldn’t want the king getting worried," he said calmly, though his eyes, usually cold, were soft.
Diana gave a small sad smile, curtsied, and with one last glance... she walked past him.
Raphel watched until her footsteps faded.
Then he turned and left.
A certain figure sat by the stairs... having heard every word. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Their expression remained calm and gentle.
Then—
He vanished into the shadows.
