Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 423 - 414: Escape!
In the rear of the tribe, the previously hidden Jida sprang out one by one.
From the first moment Chis’s army started moving, Lin Jun knew the target, decisively having his own army march swiftly to occupy the tribe beforehand.
As for the original tribal people in the tribe?
Lin Jun carefully had them protected and sent to Fungus Castle for shelter.
The residents of the Stone Surface Tribe, lacking enough warriors to protect themselves, willingly followed along with the mighty army of Puki.
Watching their leaving figures away from home, Lin Jun couldn’t help but sigh at his own kindness, unable to bear letting intelligent humanoid creatures die in vain.
He would replace the dead tribal warriors to guard their tribe... Of course, he would also blast the inherently evil Chis, avenging them!
Justice! Will prevail!
"Second round, fire!" With Norris’s order given in the Fungal Network Jida squad channel, all Jida aimed the Resonance Cannon on their shoulders at the sole remaining Evil Eye in the sky.
However, this time, Chis finally reacted.
A multitude of tentacles from the Tou Chi Beast were raised high, blocking the Evil Eye that had lowered its altitude.
Bang, bang, bang—!
Several tentacles exploded, the monster’s deafening, painful roar shaking the snow on the ground.
The tentacles failed to stop all attacks; still, one Resonance Cannon hit the Evil Eye.
With just one shot, the Magic Shield around the Evil Eye shattered to pieces, and it was blown dizzy, retreating a good distance, but at least it was preserved.
What was that?
What attacked me?
Chis soon saw what was attacking him.
Though there’s a slight difference in appearance, he’s seen it in the Stone Castle; it’s mushrooms!
Chis’s army collectively halted their advance.
Although the number of Jida wasn’t large, relying on the cover of the Tou Chi Beast, the insect army was still very likely to rush in front of the opponent.
But those are mushroom’s subordinates!
Several Eye Worms rushed out.
Indeed!
In their perception, the snow in front is densely packed with enemies!
Trap! Trap! Trap!
Another trap set up by mushrooms!
Those bipedal food were bait thrown by mushrooms; it doesn’t plan to let him go!
Without any intention to charge and gamble, Chis’s army began retreating at full speed on the original path.
Or more aptly put, it’s a rout, with only the Tou Chi Beast, originally not fast and slower due to injuries, charging against the direction.
Facing the mushroom that appeared in an unexpected place, Chis decisively left behind this precious giant beast cultivated at great resource cost as the rear guard.
Even Lin Jun had to admit it was rather an excellent decision on the spot.
Unfortunately, some outcomes can’t be changed by merely one or two correct decisions.
Upon seeing the Eye Worms fly out, knowing he had been exposed, the order for the entire army to pursue was already ringing in every Lizardman’s mind.
Countless Puki drilled out from the snow, rushing towards Tou Chi Beast.
Tou Chi Beast’s tentacles casually swept, killing a large number of Puki.
Nevertheless, most of the Puki had already self-destructed beforehand, a continuous string of deafening firecracker sounds resounding on the snowy plains.
After a sweep, that tentacle was almost useless.
In merely two minutes, more and more Puki leaped onto Tou Chi Beast’s body, starting wanton destruction.
Five minutes later, the Tou Chi Beast submerged by the Puki tide became silent.
The twenty-something Jida squad did not linger a second for Tou Chi Beast; they went on to pursue the other escapees among Chis’s forces.
Accompanying them in pursuit was the war chariot unit of Puki.
Simply put, it’s a group of rolling Puki pulling sleds, moving fast with controllers, releasing the rolling Puki to self-destruct upon attack.
Unfortunately, this unit can only be used in the Northern Territory; the four-wheel chariots Puki can’t pull fast.
The first to be caught up with was the leftover Evil Eye.
Naturally, Chis knew the Evil Eye’s speed couldn’t escape pursuit, so he had it keep ascending in height, attempting to hide in the sky.
However, Jida’s range is quite long; though their aim is unreliable, the Jida unit had always been in training, while the Evil Eye itself belongs to the giant beast category.
Ascending only about a kilometer, the Evil Eye was unfortunately hit by a Resonance Cannon from below, with magic exploding within, dying on the spot, falling straight down, scattering everywhere.
Yet Norris was evidently unsatisfied, continuing to lead his force to chase the remaining Chis.
At the tent entrance, Bugaro and Rama stared blankly at the scene before them.
The insect army went from menacing to fleeing without a fight, and ultimately couldn’t even run away; the entire process transformation took less than ten minutes.
A Lizardman trailed by several Puki noticed the two Demons: "Aren’t you resting?"
"Ah? Oh... oh... alright, we should rest, we should rest..."
Obediently shrinking back into the tent, none brought up the previous escape plan again.
Both Demons shared the same thought in their minds: The Northern Territory is about to change!
...
Norris relentlessly closing in on the remaining Chis forces, occasionally having several Resonance Cannons fall within, causing numerous casualties.
Yet Norris and the others had started cautiously utilizing the Resonance Cannon, firing repeatedly left the magic within Jida scarce; fortunately, Jida’s power wasn’t solely reliant on Resonance Cannons.
Not to say, a battle merely ending with cannon fire would leave Norris feeling somewhat bored.
Watching the ever-narrowing distance, Chis knew he couldn’t continue like this.
Chis’s team began dispersing, using individual Eye Worms as the core, scattering in different directions to flee.
This tactic did disgust Norris somewhat; just as he contemplated pursuit, all of Chis’s units suddenly went into disorder, as if the controlling entity temporarily had no time to manage them.
Norris naturally wouldn’t miss such a good opportunity, rapidly harvesting.
...
Midsection of the Gong River.
Numerous shattered ice blocks are semi-floating on the river surface, though no corpses of the Demon Race are visible in the river; the spreading fresh red blood shows what happened here before.
However, at this moment, the river surface and water held something more: remains of insects emanating purple blood and numerous fragments of Puki.
Little Pig did not participate in the ambush against Chis’s army; naturally, for she had a more important mission.
What else could be more important than Chis’s "Heart"?
Due to the time of departure, Lin Jun thought the enemy was these tribes; thus, the entire army consisted of conventional Puki units.
Moreover, even if Lin Jun had early preparations, the underwater Puki, merely having practiced on the Seventh Floor, probably aren’t opponents for Chis.
But this doesn’t mean Lin Jun had no way to handle Chis at all.
Numerous Puki were thrown into the river from the banks, subsequently bursting into sky-high splashes.
Furthermore, amid the explosions, drilling Puki dug out new holes on the ice surface, continuously producing insect corpses floating up from the deep.
And from start to finish, the Scout Puki locked onto Chis’s "Heart."
