Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 383 - 375: Greedy Move
Divine Wood Dungeon entrance.
What was once a makeshift camp for treating the wounded and handling frenzy infections has now become another frontline defense.
The Ranger Squad Leader, who had hosted Ilo and his group, decisively ordered to hold this position, blocking any animated giant trees trying to burst out from the Underground City.
However, the camp was already short on manpower. Even after drafting the mobile wounded into the battle sequence, their strength was still stretched thin.
Initially, they could barely hold the line, but as arrows and Magic Potions were rapidly consumed, the defense line began to falter.
The Squad Leader had also dispatched his subordinates for reinforcements, but there was no news yet.
Another group of giant trees appeared in the distance, and the Squad Leader personally led a few rangers forward to confront them. Through skilled coordination, they managed to sever them, yet a member was struck in the chest by a frenzied root and fell heavily injured.
Without long-range firepower suppression, relying solely on close combat to fight these colossal creatures was a huge disadvantage!
Manpower! Logistics!
He anxiously called out in his heart for any form of support assistance to arrive.
When he led his team back to the camp, he found that his prayers were answered, even beyond his expectations.
"Your Majesty?! Chief!" The Squad Leader excitedly stepped forward to salute.
Ilo raised his hand, emitting a Healing Technique’s glow, healing the wounded ranger who was being carried back, continuously coughing up blood.
The Elf King glanced around the situation, sighing lightly in his heart.
Having once held a sliver of hope regarding the situation of the animated giant trees in the city, it now seemed that the Divine Artifact must be used.
Without delay, he continued forward, but instead of venturing deep into the Underground City, he went to the edge of the giant spiral.
Looking down, Oriel also saw for the first time in his life such a dim Divine Wood Dungeon: "Even the Gathering Light Barrier has been destroyed?"
Oriel raised the Divine Artifact, speaking without turning his head: "Ilo, I’ll leave the subsequent troubles to you, just follow the established protocols."
"As you command."
Oriel raised the Yesheng Wood Core, with torrents of Life Energy surging from his body, injecting into the Divine Artifact.
The staff was instantly activated, countless buds emerged between the branches, quickly covering the entire staff.
This vitality-filled Power reached its peak in half a minute, and a pure green beam of light shot up into the sky, then turned, directly piercing deep into the spiral structure of the Underground City.
The beam finally fell on the Divine Wood sapling, already covered in crimson lines.
The energy full of vitality rushed down like a tide, where it passed, the frenzy rapidly faded like a stain being purified.
Not only the sapling, even on the massive Divine Wood trunk in the Abyssal Space, the strange red lines were quickly being replaced by a vigorous green.
Perhaps it was an illusion, Lin Jun, who was rummaging through authorization within the Divine Wood consciousness, vaguely heard a short snort?
Frightened, Lin Jun stopped all his actions, preparing to self-destruct and flee at a moment’s notice.
From the Divine Wood?
Could it be waking up?
Lin Jun suddenly felt on edge.
The effect of this Divine Artifact, is it being used like a powerful alarm clock?
The various thoughts Lin Jun originally had were suddenly diminished.
However, after opening the Divine Wood panel, he found the entity still dormant, but indeed the frenzy had disappeared, with an unknown "Vitality" added.
After waiting for a long time with no further changes, Lin Jun finally relaxed.
...
The frenzy in the Divine Wood had ceased, but the animated giant trees had not immediately returned to their original form.
Outside the Underground City, the Elf King Oriel, barely holding on to his nearly exhausted body, planted the Divine Wood Staff, its buds having all fallen off, into the ground.
However, a wave of dizziness struck, and he ultimately couldn’t control himself from falling backward.
"Your Majesty!"
Amidst the guards’ panicked shouts, Ilo stepped forward to catch the falling figure.
At this point, Oriel’s hair was entirely white, his body shriveled, his face densely lined, resembling an elf in twilight.
Yet there was a hint of relief in his eyes; he was prepared to be completely drained, but there seemed to still be some time left for him.
"I will heal you." Ilo had healing magic shimmering in his hand, though it couldn’t restore lost lifespan, it soothed the collapsing body slightly.
"Ilo, it seems..." Oriel began to speak with difficulty, his words stopping abruptly.
Ilo’s hand on his back was covertly casting another Natural Magic—Vitality Extraction!
Double Casting!
Under the cover of the Healing Technique’s magic, no one except Oriel noticed the real situation.
"Oriel, you can hate me," Ilo’s voice was barely audible, "but I must do this, the Elf Race must move forward..."
Oriel looked at Ilo, a brief moment of realization appearing in his eyes.
He used his last bit of strength to grasp Ilo’s wrist, his voice barely a whisper: "Don’t... lead them... to ruin..."
"I’m seeking that sliver of hope." Ilo responded softly.
Oriel’s hand slowly fell, silent. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Surrounding elves watched this scene in disbelief; they only knew the Elf King came to resolve the crisis, not expecting such an outcome!
The Ranger Squad Leader was even more devastated, kneeling on the ground.
Amid this moment of grief, a few more giant trees appeared at the entrance of the Underground City!
However, before anyone could react, those giant trees suddenly collapsed and fell in the distance.
And emerging in place of the trees was an elf with a dusty face, blood-red eyes, lacking any grace.
"Eco, sir!" The Ranger Squad Leader recognized his superior, but Eco paid him no mind.
Witnessing the scene, Eco’s eyes nearly burst with rage, his clenched jaw even drawing blood!
"Ilo—!"
"I want you dead!"
Two curved sabers slashed apart suddenly emerging vines; these obstacles didn’t hinder him for even a second, but more thorns continuously surged from the ground.
Eco’s sudden appearance made Ilo’s eyelids twitch wildly; he couldn’t fathom how Eco escaped the Abyssal Space.
Not to mention needing the Abyssal Ceremony as a portal, just the information block for control permissions was isolated in an area by itself, supposedly impossible to find.
Yet now, delving into these matters seemed fruitless.
He sprouted plants to obstruct Eco while trying to steady the situation with words: "Eco, is there a misunderstanding? Calm down, we can talk this through!"
Eco ignored Ilo’s explanation, his twin sabers glinting ominously like a sheet of silver: "Today either you or I will die!"
Seeing words were ineffective at quelling Eco’s rage, Ilo suddenly shouted: "Everyone, step back! Eco has been infected by frenzy! He’s mentally unclear, I will handle him!"
A wall of fire reared up in front of Eco, seizing the chance, Ilo reached for the Divine Artifact on the ground, essential for fully controlling the Divine Wood!
But his hand only grasped emptiness.
In a pit that appeared unknowingly, the wood staff had just a small part sticking out...
