Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 333 - 325: Ambush
On the thick branches of a giant ancient tree, a forest frog almost completely blended into its surroundings was staring intently at the figure passing below.
Its muscles were tense, just waiting for the prey to come a little closer so that its long tongue could instantly snatch the opponent’s life, providing itself with a feast.
However, this time, the prey happened to stop just outside its attack range.
Suddenly, the faint sound of a bowstring twanged, startling the forest frog, thinking it had been exposed, but the arrow was not aimed at it.
Seeing this, the forest frog that was ready to leap away suppressed its impulse, intending to continue observing the prey’s next move. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
But the next second, a sharp sound of something piercing through the air suddenly attacked from the side without warning!
The forest frog tried to leap and evade, but it was too late, and the arrow pierced into its head, instantly ending its life.
Its body stiffened and fell from the high branch.
Peragel walked slowly to the twitching corpse of the forest frog, deftly retrieved the arrow, and without collecting any materials, only paused briefly before continuing on his way.
His purpose this trip was to investigate the spread of the "Frenzy" phenomenon within the Divine Wood Dungeon.
Last time, they successfully transformed five Tree Demons but were detected by an accidental Magic Pet, forcing them to keep a low profile for some time to avoid mishaps.
Thus, they were unable to continuously monitor the situation in the Underground City.
Although theoretically, the plan’s first step should proceed smoothly, that was ultimately just theory.
In the gathering point, Peragel and his companions encouraged each other verbally but lacked confidence in their hearts, secretly worrying about possible accidents.
As time passed, they finally decided to send Peragel to infiltrate the lower levels and confirm the progress.
Sending him alone was both due to trust in his exceptional skills and to minimize losses if something unexpected occurred.
After completing another spiral, Peragel finally returned to the sixth layer, some mycelium in the distance catching his eye.
His vision was excellent, able to capture these tiny existences clearly even at a distance.
The recently appeared mycelium reminded him of that Puki Magic Pet.
To be cautious, he decided to avoid this area and chose to detour around.
However, with Lin Jun already watching him, he evidently couldn’t "detour" anymore.
Half an hour later, Peragel arrived at a small slope, from where a little further on would enter the Migratory Tree’s active area.
Yet he halted his steps.
In the direction of the slope, a seemingly natural rock shadow moved slightly, this almost imperceptible anomaly did not escape Peragel’s eyes.
Without hesitation, Peragel swiftly strung his bow and nocked an arrow!
The bowstring buzzed, and an arrow did not shoot straight but traced an eerie arc, bypassing the front cover, and with a "poof" sound, it accurately embedded into a Half-demon’s abdomen!
"Ugh!"
A cry of pain arose, and Peragel’s second arrow was already nocked on his bow.
He didn’t know the exact identity of the ambusher, but even when facing a whole squad of Elf Rangers, he was confident to rely on the terrain and archery to fight to the end!
Yet the next moment, his pupils suddenly contracted—
Behind the small slope, countless round Pukis surged like a flood, tumultuously, wriggling, and rushing toward him!
Their number far exceeded the total arrows in his quiver, and they were still continuously emerging!
Although unclear about the exact intention of these approaching Pukis, as an archer, avoiding close combat was an instinct embedded in him.
With several nimble leaps, Peragel swiftly darted up onto the branches of a nearby giant tree.
During the process, he twisted and narrowly dodged several incoming Acid Mushroom Cannon shots and a scorching Fireball.
The Fireball originated from a Lizardman Mage, his companion just pierced in the abdomen by an arrow, impulsively jumped out from cover to cast a spell in a hurry for revenge.
"Fool courting death!" Louisa, watching from the back of the squad, commented.
After emphasizing countless times to let the Pukis go first while hiding, some idiots just couldn’t remember.
Sure enough, the moment Peragel steadied himself on the branch, he turned back and fired a shot as swift as a shooting star!
This arrow had no flashy arc but carried absolute speed and precision, and the Lizardman Mage couldn’t react at all, as the arrow pierced right through his head.
With the Lizardman’s fall, the Pukis he controlled instantly became dazed.
This sudden change brightened Peragel’s eyes, who was under tremendous pressure from the enemy’s numbers, seeing hope for a breakthrough!
His bowstring resounded again, and two more arrows shot in arcs, injuring two other guys hiding behind cover, though they weren’t killed directly.
By this time, the Pukis also flapped up, forcing him to move quickly and dodge among the giant tree’s branches.
At the moment he aimed at the next giant tree, jumping at it mid-air, the Jida with giant blades cut the tree trunk below, tilting it, causing Peragel, who was mid-air, to lose his foothold and fall.
Seeing Jida charging over, he displayed surprising calm during his fall, rapidly vibrating the bowstring, and shot two arrows!
One arrow accurately pierced Jida’s head, while the other deeply struck its knee joint.
However, Jida didn’t have joints in the usual sense, and an arrow in the knee hardly affected its movement.
The scout Puki in its head wasn’t a vital spot; although losing its observational ability, Jida still charged along its preset route, crashing into the falling Elf fiercely!
The heavy crash made one’s teeth ache, and Peragel was flung away like a broken kite, crashing heavily into the trunk of a tree in the distance, and then slid down limply to the ground, his longbow slipped from his grasp and flew out.
One of his legs scraped over Jida’s giant blade during the fall, with the dual support of [Sharpness Level 10] and [Claw Strike Level 10], the blood and flesh lacking specialized defense were so fragile, easily cut off.
The fallen Peragel was quickly picked up by the Pukis.
"The enemy turned out to be an Elf! I’ve never seen one before!" Baroque, arrowed in the shoulder, ran to Jida while gritting his teeth, looking at the Elf tightly bound with disbelief in his tone.
Then shifted to envy: "You must have made a great contribution, right? Wonder how many Contribution Points you’ll be rewarded this time!"
"Mmm mmm! Mmm mmm mmm!" Muffled yet excited sounds came from inside Jida.
"Can’t understand at all! Where’s Eugen? Didn’t he get shot dead?"
"He said," Eugen’s voice came from the side, seemingly unharmed, "he’s never felt this powerful before, simply invincible."
Upon hearing this, Baroque looked at the mighty Jida beside him, nodding sincerely: "That’s great... too bad I don’t have this Talent..." Being eligible to control Jida was indeed a privilege for the few.
The first real battle using the Puki, even the wounded were very excited.
The Elf’s strength was clearly at the Diamond Level, yet a bunch of gold and silver managed to defeat him... although most of the credit belonged to Jida...
The Elf was captured, while Louisa noted various issues with these new recruits, for them to self-reflect and correct later.
Lin Jun didn’t participate in the entire battle, except for Louisa present, there was another standby elite Puki squad in the distance, which turned out unnecessary.
Picking up the fallen Elf’s bow, it seemed to be a Skills Weapon indeed!
Next... it’s time for a little chat.
