Chapter 1582: 1581 Righteous Two Against One

The mysterious figure was very tall, cloaked in black robes, making it impossible to discern his physique. However, judging from his speed of escape alone, he was definitely not lacking in physical training.

Tan Rou and Zhuang Liu did not have any mode of transportation and could only rely on their legs to run. They had thought their speed was fast enough, but upon encountering this person, they realized they were not fast enough after all.

The streetlights were only so bright, and the black-garbed man’s attire blended with the dark, making it difficult to keep a close watch on his shadow.

Tan Rou succinctly said, “You take the left, I’ll go right.”

Zhuang Liu immediately grasped Tan Rou’s intent, swiftly moving to the left and then picking up speed. He pushed himself to the limit; if he couldn’t catch up to the figure in black now, then there was nothing he could do.

Tan Rou often ran, and though she hadn’t run since she arrived here, she had good physical fitness and slightly stronger endurance. Even though she was not as fast as the man in black, she did not lag too far behind.

Despite his skills, the cloaked man was not invincible. After running about two kilometers, his pace noticeably slowed.

Zhuang Liu was also reaching his limits. He normally ran, but his legs had suffered from years of being poisoned, and no amount of exercise could restore them to their original condition. When they reached a fork in the road, the man in black darted down it. The path was narrow, leaving no option but to follow directly behind.

“Let me!” Tan Rou declared. “You follow behind!”

Zhuang Liu slowed down, fearing that if he continued, he might damage his legs. An injury was tolerable, but if he got hurt now, he wouldn’t be able to assist Tan Rou and would only cause her unnecessary trouble.

“Be careful!” Zhuang Liu cautioned.

As Tan Rou pursued the man in black, Zhuang Liu pulled out the locator. Although he couldn’t keep up with them, he could use the locator to pinpoint Tan Rou’s position and follow them.

The figure in black emerged from the alley into the wide street lit by brighter streetlights. With no obstructions and nowhere to hide, even if he wanted to, concealment was not an option.

“Why… why are you chasing me?” the man in black stopped and gasped for air. “I have no quarrel with you!”

Tan Rou stopped as well, not standing still but walking in circles around the man. “It was you who fired first, and even though we said we were leaving, you aimed your gun at us again. If we had actually believed you, we’d be two corpses on the ground right now.”

“Who exactly are you?” the man in black asked. “Why are you opposing us?”

“Haven’t we told you?” Tan Rou chuckled. “The great male and female thieves, just a man and a woman who specialize in stealing.”

The man in black didn’t believe her. “No, your skills are not that of common thieves.”

“Believe it or not, that’s up to you,” Tan Rou flexed her wrists. “When we’re away from home, our identities are what we make of them. I can be whatever I want to be. But what about you? Who are you? Are those ‘zombies’ from earlier your doing?”

“Zombies?” the man in black laughed. “Those are not zombies, they are the great warriors, insensible to pain and fear.”

“Warriors?” Zhuang Liu caught up. “Warriors bred with drugs?”

The figure in black seemed somewhat surprised. “How did you know…” He caught himself mid-sentence, realizing he had slipped, and hastily corrected, “Nonsense, they are just warriors!”

“Dear,” Zhuang Liu said to Tan Rou, “how about we send him down to chat with one of those so-called warriors and see if they acknowledge themselves as such?”

The man in black became more cautious. “You’re trying to kill me?”

Tan Rou and Zhuang Liu had no intention of killing anyone in a foreign land, but they could capture the man in black and hand him over to Samiyi. Surely, the princess would be very interested in these matters.

“We don’t want to kill you,” Tan Rou stated. “We just want to ask you a few questions.”

“What if I don’t want to answer?” asked the man in black.

Tan Rou and Zhuang Liu exchanged a glance, then said, “Then you’ll have to face justice in a two-against-one situation.”

Although they did not run as fast as the man in black, they were not necessarily at a loss in a fight. This time, rather than splitting up their efforts, they both charged at him together.
