Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 780: Give Her Back Her Wings
The hearing ability of cats is much keener than that of humans. Vanessa Sterling stepped lightly, not waking Miles Sterling, but she did wake Blackie.
They say cats are not as emotionally intelligent as dogs and do not recognize their owners.
Vanessa had thought that, after such a long time apart, Blackie would probably have forgotten who she was.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Blackie saw her, he immediately jumped off the sofa, raised his tail, walked over, meowing while rubbing against her feet, momentarily healing the resentment and hatred in Vanessa’s heart.
Vanessa’s leg still couldn’t bend down, and she couldn’t pet the affectionate Blackie at her feet, but an involuntary smile appeared on her face.
Miles woke up when Blackie jumped down from the sofa, but he only lay there silently, watching Vanessa.
When he saw that faint smile on Vanessa’s lips, he was momentarily dazed.
The last time he saw her smile was on the beach before he appeared in front of her.
Reluctant to break such a beautiful moment, Miles silently closed his eyes, pretending not to have woken.
After pouring water, Vanessa went upstairs with Blackie following closely behind.
Upon hearing the door upstairs close, Miles sat up from the sofa.
Suddenly, he began to hope that once Vanessa forgot her resentment towards him, their life might become like just now.
Harmonious, peaceful yet filled with warmth.
After breakfast, Bianca Jennings accompanied Vanessa for a walk by the sea. When they came back, Vanessa returned to her room.
Miles stayed downstairs and didn’t go up to find Vanessa; the day seemingly passed without incident.
But actually not. Miles sat downstairs, but in truth, he was waiting for Vanessa to start a conversation with him.
He thought Vanessa might come and ask him about Blackie.
But reality left him disappointed.
At dinner, when the maid was about to take the meal up to Vanessa, Miles stopped her, ordering, "Tell her to come down to eat."
The maid hesitated, then nodded in agreement, "Yes."
Miles sat upright at the dining table waiting for Vanessa to come downstairs. After a while, only the maid came down, looking a bit awkward as she said to Miles, "Young master, the young lady said she’s not hungry now and will come down later to eat."
Miles knew these words were simply an excuse from Vanessa.
During this period, Vanessa’s meal times had been fixed, and she would eat immediately when the food was served. Clearly, this was just Vanessa not wanting to come down and eat with him.
Thinking of this, Miles’ expression turned sour, and he said in a deep voice, "Tell her to come down now."
Sitting beside him, Bianca smiled slightly and said, "You know why she doesn’t want to come down, so why force her to do what she doesn’t want to do?"
Miles fell silent, lowering his gaze, as if it had always been this way; he disliked Vanessa defying any of his orders.
Bianca gently reminded him, "You said you would make a change. Love isn’t selfish fulfillment; it’s thinking from the other person’s perspective."
"Think seriously, is the love you speak of what she desires? Or, can such relentless possession and coercion be called love?"
After a few seconds of silence, Miles changed his mind and instructed the maid, "Bring the food up to her."
"...Yes."
After everyone else in the dining room had left, Miles asked Bianca, "Is this okay?"
Bianca chuckled and asked in return, "Do you think this is enough?"
Miles disliked others denying him, so without getting Bianca’s affirmation, his expression darkened further.
Bianca picked up her chopsticks, smiled, and asked, "Can I start eating now?"
Miles didn’t reply. Bianca picked up the dish in front of her and brought it to her mouth, then leisurely said, "You’re only making Vanessa think the one she loves is you, but I find that you don’t really know how to love her."
This statement hit the perplexity in Miles’ heart directly; it was also what he had been pondering over the last night.
Therefore, for once, Miles humbly asked Bianca, "What should I do then?"
Bianca said, "Do you want my advice? But I think you won’t be able to do it."
Miles responded, "Do you all deny others without confirmation of anything at all?"
Bianca chuckled, put down her chopsticks, picked up a napkin to wipe her mouth, and then said calmly, "First, you have to understand one thing."
Miles frowned, listening earnestly.
Bianca continued, "Vanessa is not an object; she is a free individual. She has the right to follow her heart to make choices and decisions. That choice can be you, or it may not be you, and you have no right to interfere."
Miles objected discontentedly, "I saved her life. Without me, she would have probably died!"
Bianca continued, "So, you are her lifesaver, and she should be grateful to you. Why has it come to this point? Haven’t you figured out the reason yet?"
Miles was taken aback, falling silent again.
Bianca continued, "If you like her, you can pursue her, but you cannot prevent her from making a decision you are unwilling to see, nor should you get angry or even resort to violence because of it. If everyone who fails to win love did what you are doing, do you think this would be happiness for both or mutual torture? In other words, Vanessa is now isolated from the outside world, under your complete control. Do you feel happy?"
The answer is obvious.
Bianca said, "Even if she forgets the past and stays with you, it is just an act of self-deception on your part. You are merely used to possessing, viewing her as an untouchable possession, believing this to be love, whereas for her, it is merely a dark and endless prison."
Miles’ expression darkened, sorrow reflected in his eyes. After a few seconds of silence, he said, "But I just don’t want to see her with another man."
Bianca responded, "If you don’t want to see her love someone else, then what you should do is provide her with more care and warmth than others, compelling her to love you, rather than fearing she will fly away and breaking her wings."
Miles fell into deep thought as Bianca continued, "Vanessa has no family, she is a child very lacking in love, also one of the easiest girls to satisfy. As long as you treat her a tad better, she will wholeheartedly stick with you. But it is precisely because of this that she lacks a sense of security. Once you have done something to hurt her, seeds of fear will be planted in her heart. If you had understood from the beginning how to interact with her, you two wouldn’t have ended up like this."
Miles murmured, "Then what should I do now?"
Bianca said, "Return her wings and let her leave here."
