Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 744: Happy New Year
Lana Holloway looked at Norman Sutton when she heard the voice, and with a very confused expression, she said to Norman Sutton, "Why should I prepare a gift for you?"
Norman Sutton cursed, "You ungrateful little brat, haven’t you freeloaded food and drink at my house enough? Now I’m personally driving you home, anyone with a bit of sense would know to show some appreciation."
Lana Holloway took out her phone, as if she was ready to scan and pay, and said, "Then I’ll give you the fare."
Norman Sutton was so angry that he pulled over to the side of the road and barked, "Get out!"
The car had already stopped downstairs at Lana Holloway’s place, and she didn’t hesitate, reached out, pushed the car door open, and got out. After closing the door, she walked into the building against the night wind.
Just as her foot was about to step into the building, Norman Sutton’s voice came from behind again, "Come back!"
Lana Holloway paused and looked back at him, perplexed.
Through the lowered car window, Norman Sutton said to her, "Come over here."
Lana Holloway didn’t know what kind of trick he was planning again, hesitated, and walked over to the window.
She saw Norman Sutton extend his hand out of the car window, holding a small black square box, offered it to Lana Holloway without making eye contact, and somewhat awkwardly said, "I bought a gift for my sister and casually brought you one too, take it."
Lana Holloway was stunned for a moment, looked down at the small box in his hand, and while she didn’t know what was inside, she figured it wouldn’t be cheap.
Just as she was about to refuse, Norman Sutton slightly propped himself up and stretched his hand to directly stuff the box into Lana Holloway’s jacket pocket, muttering, "Quit nagging, just go up already."
After saying that, Norman Sutton, as if fearing Lana Holloway might return the gift box, hurriedly closed the car window.
As the car window was about to close, she heard Lana Holloway’s light voice carried by the wind outside, transmitting into the car, "Thank you."
Norman Sutton was stunned, for a moment thinking he had imagined it, and for some reason, his face turned red. He hurriedly said, "Happy New Year," and completely closed the window, quickly driving away.
Lana Holloway stood by the roadside, watching Norman Sutton’s car gradually fade away, murmured to herself, "Happy New Year."
She reached into her pocket to touch the gift box, took a deep breath, and then looked towards the direction in which the car had disappeared, softly replying, "Happy New Year."
She found herself increasingly unable to understand what this young master was thinking.
This New Year, Evan Sutton couldn’t make it because he was on duty; he wouldn’t be back until the third day.
Hazel Yates, knowing this in advance, sent Evan Sutton plenty of things, fearing that he might suffer over there.
Evan Sutton spent his New Year’s night shift at the hospital.
Hannah Sue also didn’t go home for New Year’s; no one at home would miss her, and she had no desire to return.
At night, she brought the food she made herself to the hospital to have dinner with Evan Sutton.
Her cooking skills had significantly improved compared to the first time she cooked.
Even though it was just some simple, homemade dishes, the meal shared by two people who didn’t go home for New Year’s felt different.
Hannah Sue didn’t disrupt Evan Sutton’s work; after dinner, she went home, worked on some practice problems Evan Sutton had bought for her, and couldn’t help turning on the TV, eventually falling asleep without realizing it.
When Evan Sutton got off work and returned home in the morning, he found the TV on, curious why the girl woke up so early today.
After walking over, he saw Hannah Sue curled up, asleep on the sofa, finally realizing she had actually spent the night there.
Evan Sutton didn’t wake her; he picked up the remote to turn off the TV and glanced at the practice problems still on the coffee table, checking her latest work. Though she worked through them slowly, her accuracy was fairly high.
Putting the book down, he went to her room, grabbed her blanket, and gently laid it over her.
After taking a shower, he heard noises coming from outside the room.
Getting dressed and walking out of the room, he saw the person who had been lying on the sofa earlier now preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
"Dr. Sutton, Happy New Year!" Hannah Sue cheerfully smiled and greeted Evan Sutton.
Seeing her like this, Evan Sutton felt a lot of his night shift fatigue dissipate, lightly laughing as he replied, "Happy New Year."
As Hannah Sue washed vegetables, she asked, "I’m probably the first one to wish you Happy New Year, right?"
Evan Sutton shook his head, "No, last night during the rounds, the kids and their parents were a bit earlier than you."
Hannah Sue pouted, "I’m planning to cook noodles, eat up and then you can sleep."
Evan Sutton poured himself a glass of water and said, "I have a break on the third."
Hannah Sue paused, then happily suggested, "Then let’s go on a trip?"
Evan Sutton took a sip of water and replied, "I have to go home; aren’t you going back?"
With a look of disappointment, Hannah Sue mumbled, "I don’t want to go home, and I already told my dad I’ll only be back after school starts."
Evan Sutton: "So you’re staying here alone?"
With puppy eyes, Hannah Sue looked at him pitifully, "Are you really leaving me here alone?"
Evan Sutton glanced at her, "Then what? Should I not go home either?"
A sly smile emerging, Hannah Sue said, "Actually, you could take me with you, I could pretend to be your girlfriend, and that could save you from those marriage inquiries."
"You?" Evan Sutton responded as if he had heard a hilarious joke, "Taking you back might be more troublesome than those inquiries. Either you stay here alone for those three days, or come back with me — you to your home and I to mine — and then join me again afterward."
Hannah Sue: "I don’t want to stay here alone, but I also don’t want to go home."
Evan Sutton leaned against the counter, looking at her, "Then what do you suggest?"
Using a particularly helpless and pitiful gaze, Hannah Sue looked at Evan Sutton.
Yet Evan Sutton continued, "It’s up to you, but I can’t take you home."
Hannah Sue thought for a moment and said, "Then I’ll stay at a hotel."
Evan Sutton: "Got money for that?"
Hannah Sue: "I have some, staying somewhere cheap will be fine."
Evan Sutton: "Staying in a hotel to avoid going home, is it?"
Hannah Sue turned around, watching the water boiling in the pot, tossed in a handful of noodles, and muttered, "My home is nothing like yours. Your family wants you back, mine couldn’t care less if I return, and besides, going back just means trouble."
Evan Sutton understood Hannah Sue’s situation at home, and chose not to persuade her to mend her family relations.
Because sometimes, not fitting in isn’t her fault, and there’s no need to endlessly try to please.
"How about this, you stay here, I’ll come back the day after I go home. If you finish to page 50 of the exercises, I’ll take you out."
Hannah Sue pursed her lips, negotiating, "If I do ten extra pages, can you take me to your home?"
