Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 678: I Would Never Poison You
Watching Hannah Sue unceremoniously place the bag in her hand on the office desk, with the liquid and grease spilling out visibly through the transparent bag, Evan Sutton frowned and moved the papers aside, telling her, "Who told you to come? Take your stuff away."
Hannah Sue looked at him pitifully, "Actually, I’m out of options, that’s why I came to you. I have something I want your help with."
Evan Sutton: "Are we that close?"
Hannah Sue: "Not really, but think about it, we’re not close, yet I’m coming to you for help, which shows I’m really out of options. These dishes were just packed from the restaurant, but I was unlucky and bumped into someone before I even left the dining area, that’s why the soup spilled."
Evan Sutton sighed helplessly, pushed the organized documents into a drawer, and said, "I’m off work. Find another place to eat your food."
Hannah Sue asked him, "Aren’t you eating after work?"
Evan Sutton: "Not eating here."
Hannah Sue pondered for a moment and asked, "Will you be fined if caught?"
Evan Sutton replied without thinking, "Yes."
Hannah Sue: "How about we eat somewhere else? How about the cafeteria?"
Evan Sutton: "Not we, just you. You can sit outside in the hall to eat, I have to lock my office."
Hannah Sue: "Then when you lock the door, we can eat here without being seen."
Evan Sutton took a deep breath, patiently saying, "What I mean is, I’m not having dinner with you. I’m going out now, so you need to leave, understand?"
Hannah Sue put on a pitiful expression as if she could cry if Evan Sutton got any angrier: "I spent a lot of money ordering all these dishes especially for you, and I haven’t even told you what it’s about yet, and you’re already kicking me out."
Suddenly, the office door was pushed open, and a girl in a nurse’s uniform entered. Seeing the scene, she paused for a moment, "Director Sutton, you still have a patient? I thought you were off work. Director Warren asked me to bring this information to you."
Evan Sutton glanced at Hannah Sue and then at the takeout spread on the table, approached to take the documents from the nurse’s hand, "Thanks."
The nurse didn’t say anything, but she also looked at Hannah Sue and the takeout mess on the table with a peculiar look, gave an awkward laugh, and said, "Then I’ll be off work. Goodbye, Director Sutton."
Evan Sutton nodded, followed by sending the nurse out the door, then took the opportunity to lock the office door, not wanting anyone else to come in and see this scene, potentially spreading bizarre rumors.
Turning around, he once again directed Hannah Sue, "Pack your things and leave quickly."
"It’s freezing outside, I ran a long way to that store, then took the bus to find you, worried that you might have left work, rushing over in a hurry. Can’t you pity me a little for all the trouble I went through?"
Evan Sutton: "Don’t make yourself so pitiful and expect a stranger to pity you."
Hannah Sue paused for a while and said, "But you’re not a stranger; we’re sort of friends, right? I see you’re quite gentle with those kids, so why are you so harsh with me..."
Seeing that Hannah Sue intended to stay, Evan couldn’t forcibly drag her out in the hospital as it might cause a scene.
Evan Sutton asked, "What do you need? Speak up."
Hannah Sue saw he had compromised, smiled, then pulled out tissues from her bag to clear a space on the table, and while opening and arranging the takeout boxes, said, "Let’s talk while eating. I really love this restaurant’s stir-fry, it’s great with rice. Even though some spilled on the way, everything inside is clean. Hurry up and eat."
Evan Sutton looked at Hannah Sue helplessly, returned to his seat and watched as she placed the food container and chopsticks beside him without waiting for him to reach out to receive them.
"Are you afraid I poisoned it or something? I’ll eat first to reassure you."
As she said this, Hannah Sue picked up the chopsticks, sampled a bit of each dish, and then said to Evan Sutton, "Don’t worry, I wouldn’t poison you!"
Evan Sutton impatiently urged, "Hurry up and say what you need."
Hannah Sue swallowed the food in her mouth and said, "Actually... it’s not a big deal. It’s just that I’m starting school soon, and I was wondering if you could take me to school on the day it starts?"
Evan Sutton: "Why?"
Hannah Sue pursed her lips, mumbling quietly, "It’s just... everyone else has their parents taking them, and I’m the only one without. You could just pretend to be my brother."
Evan Sutton paused, examining Hannah Sue, as if wondering if she was telling the truth, then asked, "What about your family?"
At the mention of this, Hannah Sue sighed, "I’m not on good terms with them, it’s hard to explain quickly. I don’t have a mom, and my dad is very busy. My older brother was supposed to take me, but then..."
"Then what?" Evan Sutton asked with a tone that suggested, ’Go on, make it up.’
Hannah Sue sensed his disbelief, furrowed her brows and said, "You don’t believe me, right? You eat first; we can talk while eating. I’ll tell you everything about my family."
Evan Sutton: "I’m not interested."
Hannah Sue put down her chopsticks, reached over to open the wrapper around Evan’s chopsticks, grabbed his hand and put them in his hand, "It’s really good, eat with me. I’d feel embarrassed eating alone."
After that, Hannah Sue picked up some food for Evan from his lunch box, but seeing he still wasn’t moving, she directly brought the food to his lips and said, "Open up, I’ll feed you."
Evan Sutton turned his head away to avoid it, saying disdainfully, "I’ll do it myself."
Seeing him start to eat, Hannah Sue smiled contentedly, then popped the piece of meat he refused to take into her mouth, and continued, "You’ve heard of Cinderella, right? I’m not as miserable as her, but my stepmother and sister are way tougher than Cinderella’s. My dad actually feels sorry for me, but he has to consider his current wife. Plus, he’s busy with work and can’t take care of many things. I understand him. But my sister is really annoying; she spreads rumors about me at school, calls me a bastard child, and gives me a hard time at home. Originally, my older brother was supposed to take both me and her to school on opening day, but she threw a fit, not allowing him to take me. The drivers at home all listen to her, so if you don’t agree, I’ll have to go by myself and get laughed at."
Listening to this, Evan Sutton just felt it was a childish dispute, similar to when Audrey used to get bullied by Norman Sutton and then came running to him to complain.
