Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 589: That’s Enough, Second Uncle
The two remained silent for a long time before Clarissa Morgan spoke again, "Quentin, during the time I’ve been with you, I truly felt very happy. After marrying you, I once felt my life was complete. But perhaps this was just an illusion, which makes it impossible for me to accept the current flaws and deficiencies. It’s not just because of you and Vanessa, but also because of myself..."
"I said I don’t care about those things. I can walk through this with you, Clarissa. Please, don’t push me away, okay?"
"I’m sorry, Quentin. I can’t pretend nothing happened and continue with you. Until you find the next suitable girl for you, as long as you need, I can still play the role of your wife. Thank you for your help. I think I might never meet another man as good as you in my life, but as we are now, it really isn’t suitable for us to go on. I don’t want to delay your happiness because of me."
Vanessa Sterling heard Quentin Sterling’s desperate pleading and his subsequent rejection left her feeling indescribable.
Although she never dared hope she could be with Quentin Sterling, deep down she wished for him to be happy.
From their conversation just now, Vanessa Sterling realized that it seemed like she was somehow the reason for their divorce.
As if unintentionally, she had destroyed her uncle’s happiness...
The sound of high heels clacking brought Vanessa Sterling back to her senses.
She intended to walk away, but her eyes still met Clarissa Morgan’s.
Clarissa Morgan merely glanced at Vanessa Sterling, paused briefly, and then walked away without a word.
Vanessa Sterling stood frozen in place, not seeing Quentin Sterling come out for a long time.
She bit her lip tightly, hesitating between quietly leaving and going over to comfort Quentin Sterling.
Just as she leaned half her body forward to sneak a peek at Quentin Sterling, they collided right at the corner as he walked toward her.
Vanessa Sterling stood there, stunned in surprise, while Quentin Sterling also paused, his eyes somewhat unfocused, seemingly not yet out of the sadness from Clarissa Morgan’s rejection.
After meeting each other’s gaze, Vanessa Sterling suddenly felt an urge to flee, but her feet seemed glued to the ground, unable to move.
It was as if she felt Quentin Sterling’s eyes, once unfocused, began to fill with loathing and rage upon seeing her...
"Uncle..." Vanessa Sterling called softly with a trembling voice.
Before she could finish saying "uncle," a strong force suddenly gripped her throat, cutting off her voice and breath.
Quentin Sterling’s once gentle and refined face gradually turned hideous and unfamiliar, looking at Vanessa Sterling, whose face was flush with asphyxiation, through gritted teeth asking, "Do you know the story of the farmer and the snake?"
The large hands on her neck seemed to squeeze tighter, making it difficult to breathe, let alone answer Quentin Sterling’s question.
Instinctively, Vanessa Sterling lifted her hands to struggle and patted, but her strength was far from enough to stop Quentin Sterling’s murderous intent at that moment.
Asphyxiation gradually led to a loss of hearing, with her vision becoming blurry.
She seemed to see Quentin Sterling’s mouth opening and closing, saying something, but she could no longer hear. Judging from his angry expression, he was probably scolding her.
The gentle face from memory overlapped with the hideously terrifying one before her eyes.
Vanessa Sterling’s lips slightly curled up as she closed her eyes, giving up struggling. At that moment, she thought, dying by his hands might not be such a bad ending for someone like her...
"Enough, Uncle."
Miles Sterling’s voice interrupted Quentin Sterling’s abuse of Vanessa Sterling.
Quentin Sterling released his hand, and Vanessa Sterling collapsed against the wall as her body lost support.
Miles Sterling didn’t hurry forward to help Vanessa Sterling. Instead, he leaned against the wall with a smile like an outsider watching the commotion, looking at Quentin Sterling, whose anger had not yet dissipated, and said, "Uncle, venting your anger on her is one thing, but why not ask your understanding wife about what really happened that night? Oh, I forgot, correct that—your ex-wife."
Quentin Sterling gritted his teeth, tidied up his clothes, took a deep breath to calm his emotions, ignored Miles Sterling, and stepped directly over him to leave.
Miles Sterling casually brought the half-smoked cigarette to his lips, took a drag, and watching Quentin Sterling’s departing back, he smiled and said, "Uncle, perhaps it’s time to really understand what kind of woman you used to share your bed with before getting married or divorced all confusedly. A Sterling, the head of the household, being played around by an actress, would bring shame to our family’s reputation." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Still fuming, Quentin Sterling left without a pause.
However, Miles Sterling’s words lingered in his mind for a long time...
Vanessa Sterling lay on the ground, slowly recovering, recalling everything that happened just now. It was as if the only ray of sunlight in her life had extinguished, leaving the entire world cold and dark.
The cold wind blew from outside, causing Vanessa Sterling to shiver involuntarily.
The cigarette Miles Sterling held between his fingers flared brighter with the gust of wind.
He leaned against the wall, quietly watching Vanessa Sterling. The cigarette’s small flame flickered in the wind as it burned silently between his fingers.
He saw Vanessa Sterling’s shoulders shaking, but he didn’t hear her cries, which were clearly being deliberately suppressed.
The thought of her crying over Quentin Sterling irked Miles Sterling inexplicably.
He carelessly flicked the cigarette butt onto the spotless white floor, crushed it under his foot, walked over to Vanessa Sterling, and with his hands in his pockets, looked down at her, commanding, "Get up."
Vanessa Sterling lowered her head and hastily wiped her tears away.
Miles Sterling seemed to lack even the patience for her to wipe her tears, grabbing her arm hard to rudely pull her up from the ground.
"Stop crying."
Vanessa Sterling sniffed and looked at Miles Sterling with red-rimmed eyes.
But how could emotions stop just because Miles Sterling commanded them to?
Even though Vanessa Sterling tried hard to control her emotions, tears couldn’t stop flowing on command.
Feeling tears about to spill, she hurriedly raised her hand to wipe them.
But before her hand could touch her face, Miles Sterling grabbed her arm.
Fearful and flustered, Vanessa Sterling looked at him, while the yet unwiped tears burst from her eyes in front of Miles Sterling’s gaze, trickling down her cheeks...
This tear seemed to break the last thread of patience in Miles Sterling’s heart. With a frown, he raised his hand and slapped Vanessa Sterling across the face, his tone harsh to near barking, "I told you to stop crying!"
Being yelled at just like that, the tears she was about to stop shed again due to the pain from the slap, piling up uncontrollably in her eyes.
She lowered her head, back against the wall, huddling her body, while tears dripped onto the floor continuously.
All she felt was buzzing in her ears, before the darkness in front of her slowly regained light...
