Chapter 574: Chapter 574: Playing Dumb to Outsmart the Tiger

Audrey Sutton pouted and snuggled close to his side, saying, "Don’t be mad, okay? You saw it too; even though we moved the mahjong table back, we didn’t play much — just a little fun now and then."

Shane Warner pushed Audrey Sutton away a bit with his arm: "Don’t get in the way here."

Audrey Sutton added, "I promise I won’t order takeout anymore, alright?"

Shane Warner, calmly cooking steaks in the pan, said, "That’s your choice, I can’t control that."

Audrey Sutton: "If you can’t control me, aren’t you going to look after your own kid?"

Shane Warner: "Oh, you still remember you’re pregnant?"

Audrey Sutton cheerfully leaned over again, wrapping around his arm, saying, "I know I was wrong. Can you forgive me since I lost money today?"

Shane Warner looked at her grinning face, then glanced at the bump under her nightgown, sighed deeply as if suppressing his anger, and still in a stern tone said, "Audrey Sutton, I’m warning you, don’t push it. You can play mahjong and eat properly too, or when I throw out the mahjong table, don’t come crying to me!"

Though he seemed fierce, Audrey Sutton knew he was worried about her, for her own good, so she continued to smile sweetly, obediently responding, "Got it. But, how come you came back today?"

Mentioning this made Shane Warner angry again. He initially came back intending to have dinner with her, but she was so absorbed in mahjong that she lost track of time and told him she ordered takeout, which really pissed him off.

Seeing Shane Warner not answer, Audrey Sutton changed the topic, saying, "Honey, the steak you pan-fried smells amazing."

Shane Warner snorted, still ignoring her while placing the steak from the pan onto a plate, drizzling sauce over it.

"Why did you only fry one piece? I want some too."

Carrying the plate with a knife and fork, Shane Warner walked to the dining table, saying, "Didn’t you say you didn’t want anything greasy?"

Audrey Sutton followed closely, eyes locked onto the steak in Shane Warner’s plate, gulping slightly, "That was this morning when I just got up. Now I want to eat; cut me a piece to taste."

However, Shane Warner did cut a piece, but under Audrey Sutton’s intense gaze, put it into his own mouth.

Audrey Sutton frowned, and as he was cutting the second piece, she reached out, grabbed his wrist, took a bite off the fork, and smiling, said, "It’s your kid who wants to eat."

Shane Warner, glancing at her, deliberately misinterpreted Audrey Sutton’s words, saying, "My kid? Let’s hear a ’Dad’ then?"

Audrey Sutton glared at him, lightly patting her belly, said, "It’s them who wants to eat!"

"Ding-dong——"

Phoebe King excitedly jumped up from the couch, "The takeout is here! I’m starving!"

Audrey Sutton, being closer to the door, immediately got up to open it.

Flora Lane also came over to help with the stuff. Not sure what the few of them bought, Shane Warner only saw two people each carrying two large bags of things.

Audrey Sutton placed what she was holding on the table, said to Shane Warner, "We ordered lots of dishes, how about joining us?"

Shane Warner acted like he didn’t hear, silently eating his steak.

Audrey Sutton pouted at him but didn’t press further, inviting her friends, "Wash your hands here, let’s eat."

Seraphina Vaughn: "Where’s the milk tea? I’m thirsty, let me drink some first."

Audrey Sutton was taking out milk tea from the bags while watching Shane Warner’s expression.

Though he seemed indifferent to participating, Audrey Sutton knew he held back many words wanting to scold her.

Audrey Sutton took out her cup, nudging it near Shane Warner’s hand, said, "It’s warm, and no one says pregnant women can’t have milk tea. There’s a saying, ’One cup of milk tea, happiness soars’; keeping a happy mood is important during pregnancy."

Shane Warner didn’t know where this saying came from, simply replied to Audrey Sutton, "Drink if you want; why so much chatter? Did I say anything?"

Audrey Sutton pulled a chair next to him, inserted a straw into her cup, contentedly took a sip, then mumbled, "You might not have said much, but why the long face?"

Afterwards, she directly reached out and grabbed the remaining piece of steak from his plate, popping it into her mouth.

Shane Warner looked displeased, frowning at her, his gaze silently disapproving.

After eating, Audrey Sutton licked her fingers, then passed a box of rice to Shane Warner, saying, "Eat some more, you’re a big guy; one piece of steak isn’t enough."

Shane Warner put down his fork and knife, Audrey Sutton immediately passed him the chopsticks.

But Shane Warner didn’t take them, instead reached past Audrey Sutton’s hand, grabbing a tissue from the box nearby, wiping his mouth, and said as he stood up, "I don’t want to see this garbage still on the table when I get back."

Audrey Sutton’s hand with the chopsticks paused, asking him, "You’re not eating?"

Shane Warner didn’t answer, directly picked up his car keys, looking ready to leave.

"Have a sip of milk tea before you go?"

The mention of milk tea just agitated Shane Warner.

Seeing him bending over to change shoes, genuinely preparing to leave, Audrey Sutton stood up to see him off by the door.

Shane Warner sat in the car, watching her standing at the door smiling sweetly, waving at him, "Bye hubby, stay safe, come back soon, I’ll make you something delicious for dinner."

She always had the knack of riling him up but also soothing him with a few sweet words right after.

From the rearview mirror, he saw her blowing a kiss, which caused a smile to involuntarily appear on Shane Warner’s face.

He realized, despite appearing to be in charge of everything big or small at home, in actuality, Audrey Sutton had him wrapped around her little finger.

Just like playing mahjong, ordering takeout, drinking milk tea — she knew he didn’t approve, yet she didn’t heed his words.

Audrey Sutton clearly knew he’d be angry, but she also knew he couldn’t do much about it. A few sweet words would pacify him; that’s why she does whatever she wants, I suppose.

Classic case of playing dumb to gain the upper hand.

After seeing Shane Warner off, Audrey Sutton hurried back to the dining table, visibly relieved, "Finally got the big boss out of here."

Flora Lane teased while grabbing some food, "Household power dynamics are clear as day."

Audrey Sutton chuckled, "Admit defeat for peace."

Phoebe King nodded in agreement, "This trick really works; every time I get Teacher Sutton mad, I just goof around, and he can’t do anything about it."

Flora Lane thought for a moment and said, "Mor doesn’t really control what I do, usually lets me do what I want. He’ll ask me where I’m going but just once, won’t interfere." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Audrey Sutton: "That’s because you’re not pregnant yet. Wait until you are, and he’ll manage everything from your meals to your activities."

Seraphina Vaughn: "I feel like there’s some personal factor involved here. It seems like your Third Young Master just likes to worry and isn’t really confident about you."

Phoebe King whispered, "Older men probably have this ’old father’ mentality, you just have to get used to it."
