Chapter 561: Chapter 561: I Want to See the Baby

Audrey Sutton didn’t dare to truly anger Shane Warner, so she softened her tone and grumbled pitifully, "Can’t you even satisfy such a small request of mine?"

Shane looked at her helplessly, indeed unable to bear refusing her, but he felt that agreeing to this wasn’t necessarily good for her.

He regretted not sending Phoebe King back to Serephina earlier; now Phoebe had been Audrey’s sister-in-law for only two or three months, and she had already influenced Audrey this way. In time, he might really be unable to control Audrey.

Seeing Shane not responding, Audrey put down her utensils, turned around, and headed upstairs, rubbing her eyes with clenched fists, crying, "Oh, my poor child, look at your heartless father. I’m already out of favor before you’re even born, and you’ll suffer along with me in the future!"

Shane frowned, and shouted at Audrey, whose acting was quite obvious, "Stop!"

Audrey paused, standing halfway up the stairs, and looked at him, "So, do you agree or not?"

Shane took a deep breath, "I can agree, but I have conditions."

Audrey’s face immediately brightened, and she asked, "What conditions?"

Shane thought for a moment and said, "First, just this once, don’t try this trick again; next time it won’t work. Second, after buying it, you can play for a maximum of three hours a day; if you exceed the time, I’ll have someone take the machine away. Third... I’ll make a call later to ask your brother if he agrees."

Audrey became anxious upon hearing this, "What does this have to do with my brother? Do you need his consent to do things?"

Shane replied, "But you need his permission to play mahjong with his wife."

Audrey quickly said, "I won’t ask Sister Phoebe; I’ll just play with Flora and the others. There are exactly four of us in the dormitory."

Shane snorted coldly, "Alright, but if I see Phoebe joining you, I’ll call your brother to come pick her up."

Audrey thought to herself, buy the machine first and deal with Phoebe if she really comes; she didn’t believe Shane would actually send Phoebe off, "So you’re agreeing?"

Shane said, "Do I have a choice? Just don’t speak ill of me in front of our son."

Audrey immediately laughed and came downstairs to help clean the kitchen, asking him, "How is Dad?"

Shane’s expression darkened, "He’s just holding on, but his mood is quite stable."

"I know it must be tough for you, if there’s anything, don’t keep it to yourself, I’m happy to be your confidante and stay by your side."

Shane said, "Everyone has their fate, and he’s enjoyed all the happiness he could. If he truly leaves, there wouldn’t be any regrets."

Audrey pouted, "You say it so lightly, but I saw cigarette butts in the trash can. You’ve been smoking again. If you weren’t feeling overwhelmed, you wouldn’t smoke."

Shane chuckled, "Why were you digging through the trash?"

Audrey glared at him, correcting, "I saw it while throwing out the trash!"

Shane said, "I promise I won’t smoke anymore."

Audrey sighed, paused, and said, "If it helps you feel better, I might allow you to smoke occasionally, but I hope to be the one to ease your inner pain rather than cigarettes. Don’t bear everything alone, sometimes it feels much better to talk with someone."

Shane teased, "With such a wonderful wife, how could I feel down?"

Audrey said, "I’m talking seriously, don’t dodge the topic. Oh, it’s my mom’s birthday tomorrow; we’re having dinner to celebrate, do you have time?"

Shane replied, "There’s a meeting at the company in the morning; after that, I’m free."

Audrey said, "Then finish your work and come back to help set up the mahjong machine."

Shane asked, "Is that all you think about?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Audrey giggled, "There’s you in there too."

The two of them cheerfully finished cleaning the kitchen. After Audrey showered, she was only wearing a new white long-sleeved nightgown in the warm room.

She’d bought it specifically for when her belly grew, so the loose hem of the nightgown didn’t reveal her slightly protruding belly.

Shane stood by the window making a call, and Audrey, not wanting to disturb him, took the hair dryer to the bathroom to dry her hair.

Halfway through, she realized Shane was leaning against the bathroom door watching her in the mirror and wondered how long he’d been standing there.

After Audrey noticed him, Shane walked over and took the hairdryer to finish drying her hair.

After brushing her hair, Audrey looked at the strands on the brush and lamented, "Why does it feel like I’m starting to lose hair?"

"Maybe you haven’t been using your brain enough; don’t they say pregnancy makes you dumb for three years? I wonder how dull you’ll become."

Audrey glared at him unhappily, "Don’t you feel uncomfortable if you don’t mock me for a day?"

Shane hugged her and walked to the bed, gazing down at her belly, "I want to see the baby."

Audrey couldn’t help rolling her eyes, "How do you plan to do that?"

Shane paused, holding back a cheeky remark just in time, "Lie down."

Audrey lay down on the bed, her dress finally revealing her slightly rounded belly. Shane’s large hand gently rested on it, caressing it carefully, as if afraid it would shatter.

"It’s ticklish," Audrey giggled, pulling away his hand.

Shane leaned down, lightly kissing her belly, then spoke to it, "I wonder if the little one can hear."

Audrey looked at him with a gentle smile, "Some babies can start prenatal education at three or four months, so the baby should be able to hear us."

Shane spoke to Audrey’s belly, "Remember your dad’s voice."

Audrey lightly tapped his forehead, "Can’t you be a bit gentler with your words?"

Shane didn’t reply, shifting up a bit and leaving a kiss on Audrey’s shoulder.

Audrey quickly dodged, "What are you up to?"

Shane’s voice was calm, almost to himself, "It’s been three months... I asked the doctor, and he said the fourth to sixth months are safe for intimacy."

Listening to him speak so plainly about such shameless topics made Audrey blush; she immediately pushed him away, pulling the blanket over herself, and said, "All you think about is that stuff!"

Shane said, "I’ve been patient for a long time."

Audrey didn’t want to discuss the topic further, turning her back and wrapping herself in the blanket, "Turn off the lights and sleep!"

Shane also knew he couldn’t touch her yet, so he sighed, turned off the lights, and got into bed.

After a moment of silence, Shane suddenly said, "I remembered, did you go to see Quentin Sterling?"
