Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 548: Look at the Troublesome Woman You Married
Norman turned his head to look at Audrey and instinctively replied, "I came here to..."
Halfway through his sentence, he frowned and glared at Audrey, saying, "What business is it of yours why I’m here?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Audrey and then gave Shane a once-over: "What on earth are you two wearing?"
Audrey: "What do you know? Why are you, Mr. Tech Nerd, even here? Here to see some beauties?"
Norman gave Shane a knowing look and said, "So, you brought him here to see beauties too?"
Audrey frowned, displeased, "Can you even compare yourself to him? Besides, I asked him to come with me. It’s not normal for you to be here. If you don’t tell me the truth, I’ll go back and tell Dad you’re being creepy and hitting on girls in public."
Norman became more annoyed: "Which eye of yours saw me hitting on girls?"
Audrey chuckled smugly, "Anyway, Dad will definitely believe me if I say so."
Norman was fuming with anger and said to Shane, "Look at what a troublemaker you’ve married!"
Audrey: "Are you going to tell me or not?"
Pretending to reach for her phone from a hidden pocket, Norman knew their father favored Audrey. Having no choice, he stammered, "I came to buy some artwork."
Audrey was puzzled, looking at him suspiciously, "You? Buy art? Since when do you have such taste?"
Norman, looking evasive, said fiercely, "It’s none of your business! I’m here to buy art. Isn’t there an exhibition for some young artist? Do you know where it is?"
Audrey recalled the route she just walked, pointed in a direction, and said, "I think I just passed by it. It should be that way. Go check it out, and if you can’t find it, ask the staff."
Without even a "thank you," Norman snorted and took two steps in the direction Audrey pointed before turning back to warn her, "Don’t follow me."
Audrey pouted disdainfully, "Like I’d follow you!"
Watching Norman disappear into the crowd, Audrey stood in place for a few seconds, then wickedly smiled and tugged Shane to follow.
Shane clearly didn’t enjoy sneaking around doing something contrary to his words and said, "Didn’t you say you weren’t going to follow?"
Audrey replied, "He’s definitely up to no good. Let’s see what he’s up to."
Shane could only be thankful that the weather was cool, allowing him to wear this outfit and wig while accompanying her through the crowd.
Suddenly, he regretted agreeing to come with her. But not accompanying her left him worried, and he couldn’t just lock her up and forbid her from going anywhere, so begrudgingly, he went along with Audrey’s whims.
At the art exhibition, besides traditional Chinese paintings, there were many sketches, oil paintings, and the two-dimensional comic style Audrey excelled at.
As it was a special session newly developed by the exhibition, it seemed to attract quite accomplished students from various academies, each with apparent unique skills.
Some were selling handcrafted works related to calligraphy and painting, others were painting on-site, and some even came to promote teaching. It was quite a lively scene.
The most eye-catching perhaps was a stall with a Chinese style, surrounded by girls, like Audrey, wearing traditional clothing (hanfu).
Amid these girls, Norman, dressed in a black jacket and acting sneakily, seemed particularly out of place.
Audrey moved a bit closer to see better. The stall displayed many calligraphy and painting fans, embroidered handkerchiefs, ancient style hairpins, and headbands.
Due to good business, two girls were introducing and selling the products at the stall.
Audrey looked at the two women but didn’t recognize them, wondering why Norman had come all the way to this stall.
"Excuse me, please~,"
While Audrey was craning around, she heard a breathless female voice.
She pulled Shane to one side, and watched as a girl in a ruqun (traditional Chinese attire) carrying a cardboard box hurried past. At a glance, Audrey found something familiar about her.
But the girl was in such a hurry that before Audrey could see her face clearly, the girl with a view of only the back of her head, rushed away with the box.
Perplexed, Audrey noticed the girl heading towards the stall she was observing. Soon after, she heard the girl say with a smile, "Here’s another box of handkerchiefs, all hand-embroidered with silk, each priced the same."
Audrey squinted her slightly nearsighted eyes and finally saw the girl’s face clearly.
It was Lana Holloway, the girl from their school, who was obsessed with traditional Chinese painting and had once clashed with Norman, even working at a flower shop.
Now Audrey understood Norman’s real purpose for being here. The whole art-buying thing was just a ruse; he obviously came specifically to see the girl.
Since Lana stopped working at the flower shop, Norman had graduated from university and left school. They probably hadn’t crossed paths much since, so that’s likely why Norman showed up here today.
Audrey watched Lana explaining with a smile to the girls in front of the stall about the meanings behind the embroideries on the handkerchiefs, while Norman stood quietly on the outer edge of the crowd, never taking his eyes off Lana for even a moment.
She tilted her head to look at Shane and asked in puzzlement, "Are all you guys like this? Obviously fond of someone yet unwilling to admit it, and instead, deliberately giving them a hard time."
Shane glanced at her, "When have I ever done that?"
Audrey: "You’re still like that now! A sharp tongue but a soft heart, clearly care about me immensely, yet you always say hurtful things to irritate me. Luckily, I’m magnanimous and don’t hold it against you."
Before Shane could reply, Audrey pulled him forward again, "Come on, let’s go buy a handkerchief."
Audrey deliberately stayed out of the direction where Norman could see and circled around behind him.
Noticing the girls in front of the stall buying a handkerchief each and leaving, Audrey saw Norman stepping forward, so she quickly went up to the stall ahead of him.
Norman furrowed his brows and cursed, "Are you insane? I told you not to follow me!"
Audrey pretended to notice Norman just then, turned and smiled sweetly at him, "Brother, why are you here? Are you buying handkerchiefs too?"
Lana also just noticed Norman’s presence, clearly not keen on talking to him. She glanced at him, then shifted her gaze away and smiled as she asked Audrey, "Are you buying a handkerchief?"
Audrey nodded with a smile and asked, "Do you have one that matches my outfit today?"
Lana answered as she rummaged through the box, "Yes, the colors are quite close. Let me find one for you. Every embroidered pattern is different, so pick the one you like best; they’re all priced the same."
Watching the two converse back and forth, Norman couldn’t get a word in and glared angrily at Audrey’s back before sidling up to Shane and whispering, "Hurry and get your wife out of here!"
